Studies on the distribution of traffic demands have been proceeding by providing traffic information for reducing greenhouse gases and reinforcing the road's competitiveness in the transport section, however, since it is preferentially required the extensive studies on the driver's behavior changing routes and its influence factors, this study has been developed a discriminant model for changing routes considering driving conditions including traffic conditions of roads and driver's preferences for information media. It is divided into three groups depending on driving conditions in group classification with the CART analysis, which is statistically meaningful. And, elements of the driving conditions and the preferred media affecting the change of paths are classified into statistical meaningful groups through the CHAID analysis, and the major factors affecting the change of paths are examined. Finally, the extent that driving conditions and preferred media affect a route change is examined through a discriminant analysis, and it is developed a discriminant model equation to predict a route change. As a result of building the discriminant model equation, it is shown that driving conditions affect a route change much more, the entire discriminant hit ratio is derived as 64.2%, and this discriminant equation shows high discriminant ability more than a certain degree.

Clubroot disease caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae, induces damage to cruciferous vegetables worldwide. For control of the disease, many CR (clubroot resistant) $F_1$ hybrid cultivars of Chinese cabbage have been bred and released in Korea. In this study, we determined the race of 10 field isolates of P. brassicae collected from ten regions in Korea using Williams' differential varieties and investigated the degree of resistance of 25 commercial CR cultivars of Chinese cabbage to the isolates. The clubroot pathogens were assigned into two (HS and YC), two (HN1 and HN2), two (DJ and SS) and four (GS, GN, JS, and PC) isolates for race 2, race 4, race 5, race 9, respectively. All CR cultivars showed similar response, resistant or susceptible, to each isolate and the P. brassicae isolates were divided into two groups. Among them, the DJ, GS, GN, HS, and JS isolates could not infect the CR cultivars. In contrast, the SS, HN1, HN2, PC, and YC isolates caused severe clubroot disease on the CR cultivars like susceptible cultivars. Even though they belong to the same race, the CR cultivars showed a different response to the pathogens. The results suggest that the breakdown of CR in Chinese cabbage has already occurred in cultivation areas of Korea and resistance source introduced in CR cultivars may be very limited. In addition, it is likely that resistance genes of Williams' differential varieties to P. brassicae are different from the gene of CR cultivars of Chinese cabbage used in the study.

The rice blast fungus is a representative model phytopathogenic fungus in which Gene-for-Gene interaction with host rice is applicable. After 1980, eight differential varieties have been constructed and classified to analyze the race of rice blast isolates in Korea. However, since there is limited information about the genetic background of rice blast resistance genes within the Korean differentials, scientific analysis on the emergence of new race or resistance break down was difficult. Recently, a differential system has been developed using monogenic resistance lines to understand the interactions of pathogen race and rice resistance genes. In this study, a total of 50 isolates were selected from four different races isolated in Korea, and they were inoculated into monogenic lines. As a result, the isolates in the same race classified by the Korean differential system reacted differently in single monogenic lines. This suggests that the isolates categorized as the same race group contains different avirulence genes and furthermore, it is presumed that the Korean differential system is difficult to provide useful information for breeding program. For this reason, introduction of differential system using monogenic resistance lines is required in addition to the current system.
Accident type and/or factor identification is important in accident reduction planning. The aim of this paper is to apply the hierarchical approach with binomial distribution and logistic regression analysis to find out types and factors, respectively. Based on 2001 Suwon city black spot data, a binomial distribution modeling approach has been applied to diagnose the black spots, with the help of safety performance modeling approach has been applied to diagnose the black spots, with the help of safety performance function. Then, the logistic regression analysis has been employed to identify the critical factors. Some accident remedies are also reviewed in the light of the model outcomes. The proposed research framework sheds light on a different accident related research and can also be successfully applied to similar studies and sites.
The alpha-proteobacterium Wolbachia is one of the most important intracellular symbionts of arthropods. This Gram-negative bacterium is involved in many biological processes and is currently considered as a potential tool for biological control. Wolbachia is a cytoplasmic bacterium, maternally transferred through generations, and to facilitate its success, it has evolved several strategies that manipulate its host reproductive system to increase the number of infected individuals in the host population. The variety of Wolbachia was first recognized using genes wsp, 16S rRNA, ftsZ, gltA and groEL as molecular markers while strain genotypes of Wolbachia are determined of Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) and sequence of amino acid in region, hyper variable regions (HVRs) in protein WSP. Possible uses of the bacteria and their predominant phenotypes in control programs for agricultural pests and human disease vectors have been considered. Phenotypes are known to induce cytoplasmic incompatibility (CI), parthenogenesis induction (PI), feminization (F) and male killing (MK). Finally, applications of the bacterium in control programs of agricultural and medical insect pests have been discussed.
Single spores were isolated from infected roots of Chinese cabbage with a typical clubroot symptom, collected from different Chinese cabbage cultivation areas in Korea. When the single spore isolates were inoculated on Chinese cabbage, radish, turnip, kale, leaf mustard and Williams' differential varieties, among 321 roots harvested two weeks after inoculation, a visual symptom was observed on only one root and light/uncommon symptoms were done on 70 roots. These 71 individuals were homogenized and used as inocula. These inocula caused generally higher pathogenicity than that of single spore. Finally 15 isolates, with enough growth for conducting further experiment, were selected. These 15 individuals were grouped four, seven, two and two into race 1, race 4, race 9 and race 11, respectively, using Williams' differential set. It was confirmed that race 4 were dominantly present in Korea. These 15 had been obtained from roots of Chinese cabbages, radishes and turnips inoculated with single resting spores and had shown pathogenicity to Laurentian and Wilhelmsburger belong to Rutabaga in Williams' differential variety set. Therefore, we assume that such characteristic pathotypes including race 4, especially, of P. brassicae showing strong pathogenicity to Chinese cabbage, radish and turnip may be dominant in Korea.
The genus Armillaria is important because they produce Gastrodia tubers. Seventy two isolates of Armillaria were obtained from fruit bodies grown on decayed wood in Korea. Twenty four isolates from Pinus koraiensis were identified as A. ostoyae. Two isolates from G. elata growing in the field were identified as A. mellea. Seven isolates from Acer ginnala and Quercus spp. were identified as A. tabescens. Thirty nine isolates were identified as A. gallica. Armillaria gallica was isolated from Quercus spp., Ainus japonica, Vitis amurensis and Prunus sargentii. Armillaria spp. isolates were divided into four groups based on the cultural characteristics. Group II (A. gallica KNU-A110) was better than the other groups for mycelial growth and rhizomorph formation. Isolate KNU-A110 proved to be good for production of G. elata tubers. This fungus forms mycelial fan in the plant tissue and rhizomorphs in contact with G. elata tubers. Gastrodia spp. was found in thirteen sites in Kangweon province in Korea. The plants were divided into three different kinds based on stem color. Plants with stems of brownish orange and greyish yellow were identified as G. elata, and those with greyish green colored stems were identified as G. gracilis. Gastrodia was collected mainly from humus soils rich in leaf debris, and slopes facing south from mid-May to mid-July. Once the new tubers are formed from the ancestry tuber, the ancestry tuber begins to decay. The offspring tuber, apparently gaining nutrients through rhizomorphs, begins to grow in length and slowly to enlarge. It takes three years for the offspring tuber to become ancestry tuber.
Four varieties of tobacco, Nicotiana tabacum var. NC 2326. NC 95, NC 744 and Havana. and two plant species, Physalis floridana Rydb., N. repanda Wild. were used for classification of ten isolates of potato virus Y(PVY) obtained Iron potato or tabacco plants showing various symptoms. Each of the 10 isolates could be distinguished by the host reactions showing necrosis, vein banding and/or mottling, or no symptom on these hosts. Five isolates of PVY, PVY-VN, PVY-N, PVY-NSNR, PVY-Chile, and PVY-Argentina, showed necrotic symptom on NC 2326, but others showed vein handing and/or mottling symptom. On NC95, each of the isolates tested showed similar symptons as on NC2326, except necrotic symptom by the isolate PVY-MSNR. Havana showed mottling reaction to the PVY-NSNR, PVY-MSNR, PVY-MSMR, PVY-VB, and necrosis to PVY-Chile, PVY-Argentina, but showed no symptom to the others. NC744 showed mottling symptom to the PVY-MSNR and PVY-MSMR, necrosis to the PVY-Chile and PVY-Argentina, and no symptom to the others. On N. repanda, necrotic reaction to PVY-Argentina. no symptom to PVY-VN and PVY-C, and nettling to others were observed.
Several species of planthoppers such as brown planthopper, N. lugens (Stal) (BPH), smaller brown planthopper, Laodelphax striatellus (Fall n) (SBPH), and white-backed planthopper, Sogatella furcifera (Horv th) (WBPH) are distributed in Korean rice paddies but not easy to discriminate them in situ. Accurate discrimination of them is an indispensable process in the forecasting for their outbreak and control. Especially, innovative discrimination method for BPH was required because BPH was one of the most important insect pest of rice. Nymphs and adults of BPHs, SBPHS, and WBPHS, thus, were examined their morphological characteristics in the paddies and laboratory. The nymphs of BPH had different characters from those of SBPH and WBPH. The nymphs of BPH had white fluorescent spot between bottom of compound eye and antenna, while there was no that spot the other two species. The white spot was the brightest at the nymphs just after hatching and getting weaker as the nymph developed. At last the white spot was totally disappeared at the adult stage. This white spot was innovative criterium to discriminate nymphs of BPH, SBPH, and WBPH in rice paddies.
Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) is one of the most destructive viruses worldwide, which causes severe damage to economically important crops, such as pepper and tomato. In this study, we examined the molecular and biological characterization of a TSWV isolate (SW-TO2) infecting tomato and compared it to the recently reported isolates from boxthorn, butterbur, and angelica plants. The phylogenetic analysis based on the complete genome sequences confirmed that SW-TO2 was clustered with those of isolates from boxthorn and pepper in Korea with the maximum nucleotide identities ranging from 98% to 99%. We developed the bioassay method for screening TSWV resistance and tested some commercial pepper and tomato cultivars for resistance evaluation of four isolates of TSWV. TSWV resistance was evaluated as TSWV resistance when all the following three conditions were satisfied: first, when symptoms of necrotic spots or no symptoms were present in the inoculated leaves; second, when there were no symptoms in the upper leaves; and third, when the upper leaves were negative as a result of RT-PCR diagnosis.
