Extended end-plate connections(EEPC) are a type of connection applied in Pre-Engineered Building structures comprising beam-column connections of steel structures or tapered members. Extended end-plate connections(EEPC) show different behavioral characteristics owing to the influence of plate thickness, gauge distance of high strength bolt, diameter of high strength bolt frame, and the number of high strength bolts. In the USA and Europe, extended end-plate connections(EEPC) are applied in beam-column connections of steel structures in various forms; however, these are not widely applied in structures in Korea. This can be attributed to the fact that the proposal of design strength types for extended end-plate connections(EEPC), proposal of connection specifications, evaluation of seismic performance, and are not being performed appropriately. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the domestic application of Unstiffened extended endplate connections. To realize this, nonlinear finite element analysis was conducted on a 12-mm thick Unstiffened extended endplate connections.

This paper presents the reduction characteristics of electromagnetic penetration through a slit in conducting screen by loaded plate. The FDTD method is used in theoretical analysis. And the characteristics of penetrated electric fields are calculated in terms of length, width, shape, position, and height of the loaded plate to find out how the geometry of plate influences the reduction characteristics of the electromagnetic penetration and shielding effectiveness. The results show that the characteristics of penetrated electric field and shielding effectiveness depend on the geometry of loaded plate. In particular, the optimal geometry of loaded plate which minimize penetrated electric field are verified.

An enormous amount of efforts has been devoted to the development of finite elements for the bending problem of thick plates, especially based on Mindlin plate theory. Here, an approximate Constant Shear Angle Theory is usually used to take a transverse shear deformation of thick plate into consideration, which cannot be effectively considered the influence of transversal warping of cross-section with an increase of thickness. It might be the best way to represent the exact cross-sectional warping of the plate. The overall objective of this study is to develop a new formulation of plate including shear deformation and transversal warping, to perform extensive parametric studies comparing its results with those from Mindlin plate formulation, and to gain further insight into the influence of shear deformation and transversal warping of thick plate.
Previous finite element studies have shown that AASHTO Standard load distribution factor (LDF) equations appear to be conservative for longer spans and larger girder spacing, but too permissible for short spans and girder spacing. AASHTO LRFD specification defines the distribution factor equation for girder spacing, span length, slab thickness, and longitudinal stiffness. However, this equation requires an iterative procedure to correctly determine the LDF value due to an initially unknown longitudinal stiffness parameter. This study presents a simplified LDF equation for interior and exterior girders of two-span continuous I-girder bridges that does not require an iterative design procedure. The finite element method was used to investigate the effect of girder spacing, span length, slab thickness, slab width, and spacing and size of bracing. The computer program, GTSTRUDL, was used to idealize the bridge superstructures as the eccentric beam model, the concrete slab by quadrilateral shell elements, steel girders by space frame members, and the composite action between these elements by rigid links. The distribution factors obtained from these analyses were compared with those from the AASHTO Standard and LRFD methods. It was observed through the parametric studies that girder spacing, span length, and slab thickness were the dominant parameters compared with others. The LRFD distribution factor for the interior girder was found to be conservative in most cases, whereas the factor for the exterior girder to be unconservative in longer spans. Furthermore, a regression analysis was performed to develop simplified LDF formulas. The formulas developed in this study produced LDF values that are always conservative to those from the finite element method and are generally smaller than the LDF values obtained from the AASHTO LRFD specification. The proposed simplified equation will assist bridge engineers in predicting the actual LDF in two-span continuous I-girder bridges.

To obtain a more accurate response from larninated composite structures, the effect of transverse shear deformation, transverse normal strain/stress, and nonlinear variation of in-plane displacements vis-$\\grave{a}$-vis the thickness coordinate should be considered in the analysis. The improved higher-order theory was used to determine the critical buckling load and natural frequencies of laminated composite structures. Solutions of simply supported laminated composite plates and sandwiches were obtained in closed form using Navier's technique, with the results compared with calculated results using the first order and other higher-order theories. Numerical results were presented for fiber-reinforced laminates, which show the effects of ply orientation, number of layers, side-toithickness ratio, and aspects ratio.
In this study, we have quantitatively estimated the mechanical properties of structural welding steels widely used in steel structures after correcting the millsheets of the steels using statistical technique. From this result, in present, the mechanical properties of the steels produced in domestics have satisfied the prescribed values in Korean Standards. The mechanical properties of the steels were dependent upon the plate thickness & class of the steels. Also, there have been linear relations between the plate thickness & class of the steels and the mechanical properties of the steels. And the results of this study have shown the similar tendencies with the existing results. Because the upper limit value of yield strength is not prescribed at Korean Standards in present, it is necessary to prescribe the upper limit value of yielding ratio(or yield strength) in order to assure the deformation performance of the steels.
Various fatigue damages have been reported in orthotropic steel deck structures put upon girders. These damages are caused by complex behaviors of the deck, which is directly subjected to vehicle loads. To estimate the causes of fatigue cracks at the welded connected parts of the trough rib and the flor beam, and the trough rib and the deck plate, in orthotropic steel deck structures, FE analyses were first, performed in this study. Parameter studies were carried out to suggest effective structural details that consider fatigue, in which the main parameters are the thickness of the deck plate, the shape of the connection of the trough rib and the flor beam such as the slit form, and the welding length. This study suggests that the effective structural details improved the fatigue strength and discusses.
Operational and thermal characteristics of a thin disk Yb:YAG crystal with a thickness of 0.8 mm were studied using as a pumping source a fiber-coupled 930 nm laser diode. The heat generated in the crystal was dissipated by placing both surfaces in contact with copper plates with central hole, and the dependence of the temperature change in the illuminated spot on hole size was investigated by measuring the spectral change of the lasing peaks. The slope efficiency and optical-to-optical efficiency with respect to the LD pump power were as high as 42.2% and 34.8%, respectively. The temperature at the illuminated spot increased with diode current and with increasing hole size of the copper plate. When the hole size considerably exceeded the crystal thickness, the temperature rise deviated from the linear increase at high pump power.

In this paper, It is performing to the elastic and elasto-plastic large deformation series analysis using a numerical method for the initial deflection effect of the aluminum alloy rectangular plate in the elasto-plastic loading area patch loading size. It is assumed a boundary condition to be a simply supported condition and consider the initial deflection amplitude, aspect ratio. It examined the critical elastic buckling load and post-buckling behaviour of aluminium alloy A6082-T6 rectangular plate. It used a commercial program for the elastic and elasto-plastic deformation series analysis. If the initial deflection amplitude is smaller, the in-plane rigidity with increasing to load is reduced from the start and occurs significantly more increasing the amplitude. More higher the aspect ratio, the initial yield strength is gradually decreased, and the plate thickness thicker and occurs larger than the thin walled plate a reduction ratio of the initial yield strength of the patch loading size as 0.5.
