Learning-based Detection of License Plate using SIFT and Neural Network (SIFT와 신경망을 이용한 학습 기반 차량 번호판 검출)

  • Most of former studies for car license plate detection restrict the image acquisition environment. The aim of this research is to diminish the restrictions by proposing a new method of using SIFT and neural network. SIFT can be used in diverse situations with less restriction because it provides size- and rotation-invariance and large discriminating power. SIFT extracted from the license plate image is divided into the internal(inside class) and the external(outside class) ones and the classifier is trained using them. In the proposed method, by just putting the various types of license plates, the trained neural network classifier can process all of the types. Although the classification performance is not high, the inside class appears densely over the plate region and sparsely over the non-plate regions. These characteristics create a local feature map, from which we can identify the location with the global maximum value as a candidate of license plate region. We collected image database with much less restriction than the conventional researches. The experiment and evaluation were done using this database. In terms of classification accuracy of SIFT keypoints, the correct recognition rate was 97.1%. The precision rate was 62.0% and recall rate was 50.2%. In terms of license plate detection rate, the correct recognition rate was 98.6%.

An Experimental Study on the Static Behavior in Weak Axis of FRP Bridge Deck Filled with a Foam (폼 충전 FRP 바닥판의 약축방향 정적거동 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • We investigated experimentally the static behavior of an orthotropic bridge deck which is made from glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) and polyurethane foam. The bridge deck consists of many unit cells with rectangular holes which are filled with the foam to improve its structural behavior in its weak axis. It is found that although the elastic modulus of the foam compared to that of the GFRP is about the order of, the structural behaviors in the weak axis such as nominal strength, stiffness, etc. are greatly improved. Owing to the low mass density of the foam used in this study, the bridge deck is still light enough with the improved structural properties. Webs of the cells filled with the foam did not significantly contribute to the strength development of the deck. However, the propagation of a crack initiated in a cell is caught by the webs and limited to the inside of that cell only, which makes the load-displacement behavior of the foam-filled GFRP deck less brittle.

  • SOFC는 높은 반응온도($600{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$)에서 작동되어 발전효율이 높고 다양한 연료를 사용할 수 있는 것이 장점이다. 하지만 고온에서의 운전은 구성요소의 열변형과 온도구배에 의한 전극촉매의 열화 그리고 밀봉재의 수명에 영향을 주어 결국 스택의 내구성을 감소시킨다. 특히 스택의 온도구배가 심화되면 국부적인 Hot spot를 형성하여 셀에 심각한 손상을 주게 된다. 본 과제에서는 SOFC 스택의 온도구배를 완화시키기 위한 내부개질기의 개발 및 고온용 분리판 소재의 정밀성형기술을 확보하고자 한다. 열/유동해석을 통하여 반응가스의 농도, 유속, 구조변경 등 내부개질기 온도구배에 대한 주요인자를 확인하였고, 장기 운전평가를 통하여 개질 촉매의 고온 활성 및 내구성에 대한 성능평가를 진행 중이다. 분리판의 경우, 고온용 소재(페라이트계 스테인레스)에 대한 기초실험을 실시하여 성형품질의 주요 인자를 파악하였으며 Proto-type 금형 설계 및 개발을 통하여 성형 기초기술을 확보하였다. 그리고 스택 내부온도를 구현할 수 있는 시뮬레이터를 설계 중에 있으며 이를 이용하여 개발된 내부개질기 및 분리판을 스택 운전환경에서 평가할 예정이다.

  • 본 논문은 영상 획득 환경이 자유로운 상황에서 차량 번호판 영역을 검출하기 위한 새로운 방법을 제안한다. 입력 영상에서 SIFT 지역특징을 추출하고 미리 학습한 분류기를 통해 각 지역특징이 번호판 내부에 속하는지 번호판 외부에 속하는지를 분류한다. 번호판 내부로 분류된 지역특징이 밀집한 영역이 번호판 영역으로 검출된다. 실험을 통해 제안하는 지역특징 분류 방법이 높은 성능으로 번호판 내/외부를 분류함을 보인다.

Initial Evaluation using Geochemical Data to infer Tectonic Setting of Mt. Baekdu/Changbaishan Volcano (백두산 화산의 지체구조 추론을 위한 지구화학적 데이터를 이용한 기초 평가)

  • This study aimed to investigate the tectonic setting of the volcanic edifice at Mt. Baekdu by analyzing petrochemical characteristics of Holocene felsic volcanic rocks distributed in the Baekdusan stratovolcano edifice and summit of the Cheonji caldera rim, as well as Pleistocene mafic rocks of the Gaema lava plateau and Changbaishan shield volcano edifice. During the early eruption phases, mafic eruption materials, with composition ranging from alkali basalt to trachybasalt, or from subalkaline (tholeiitic) basalt to basaltic andesite formed the Gaema lava plateau and Changbaishan shield volcanic edifice, whereas the Baekdusan stratovolcano edifice and Holocene tephra deposits near the summit of the Cheonji caldera comprises trachytic and rhyolitic compositions. Analysis results revealed bimodal compositions with a lack of 54-62 SiO2, between the felsic and mafic volcanic rocks. This suggested that magmatic processes occurred at the locations of extensional tectonic settings in the crust. Mafic volcanic rocks were plotted in the field of within-plate volcanic zones or between within-plate alkaline and tholeiite zones on the tectonic discrimination diagram, and it was in good agreement with the results of the TAS diagram. Felsic volcanic rocks were plotted in the field of within-plate granite tectonic settings on discrimination diagrams of granitic rocks. None of the results were plotted in the field of arc islands or continental margin arcs. The primitive mantle-normalized spider diagram did not show negative (-) anomalies of Nb and Ti, which are distinctive characteristics of subduction-related volcanic rocks, but exhibited similar patterns of ocean island basalt. Trace element compositions showed no evidence of, magmatic processes related to subduction zones, indicating that the magmatic processes forming the Baekdusan volcanic field occurred in an intraplate environment. The distribution of shallow earthquakes in this region supports the results. The volcanic rocks of the Baekdusan volcanic field are interpreted as the result of intraplate volcanism originating from the upwelling of mantle material during the Cenozoic era.

  • 교통표지판 검출 및 인식은 차량의 자율주행 및 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System)의 필수적인 요소이다. 교통표지판의 각종 표식을 인식하기 위해서는 먼저 교통표지판 영역을 검출해야 하며, 이 작업은 통상적으로 교통표지판에 포함된 빨간색을 추출하는 컬러 필터링을 통해 이루어진다. 하지만 차량 영상에 나타나는 색상 성분은 태양광의 방향이나 날씨 등에 상당한 영향을 받으며 이러한 조도 환경은 차량이 주행하게 되면 시간적으로도 수시로 변화한다. 더군다나 사용하는 카메라의 내부적인 특성에 따라서도 색상 성분의 분포가 달라지기 때문에 컬러 필터링을 위한 임계값은 고정값을 사용하기 보다는 적응적으로 변화시킬 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 다양한 조도 환경과 다양한 카메라 종류에 따라서 영상 내 교통표지판의 빨간색 성분의 분포를 분석하고 이를 바탕으로 임계값을 가변적으로 설정하는 방법을 제안한다. 그리고 모의실험을 통해 제안 방법을 적용하면 고정된 임계값을 사용한 방법보다 조도변화에 강인하게 교통표지판 영역을 검출할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

Performance Evaluation of Plate Heat Exchanger Applied Low Temperature Cofired Coating (저온소성 코팅을 적용한 판형 열교환기의 성능평가)

  • In this study, a performance evaluation was conducted using a SUS 304 plate applied to low-temperature co-fired coating as a replacement for titanium plates. As a result of computational fluid dynamic analysis, the SUS 304 plate, applied to low-temperature co-fired coating, showed better heat transfer performance than a titanium plate, for 100 micron thickness coating. The result of the experiments using an actual heat exchanger revealed that a coated SUS 304 plate showed better heat transfer performance than a titanium plate. Furthermore, as the degree of corrosion and scale formation of the plate was confirmed through an overhaul inspection, the corrosion resistance of a coated SUS 304 plate was found to be almost the same as that of a titanium plate, and the inhibition effect of scale formation by sea water was better with a coated SUS 304 plate.

  • 고분자 전해질 연료전지용 분리판은 가격비와 중량비가 높아 부품 가격 및 중량을 낮출 경우 파급 효과가 높을 것으로 예상된다. 일반적인 금속판들은 연료전지 스택 내의 산성 분위기에서 존재하므로 표면 부식이 쉽게 발행한다. 본 연구에서는 연료전지의 사용환경을 고려하여 금속판의 부식방지 및 표면특성 향상을 위해 그라핀을 코팅하였으며, 연료전지 스택 내부와 유사한 산화성 분위기를 모사하여 전기화학적 특성을 분석하였다.

  • Udo is the site of a short-lived monogenetic submarine volcanic vent which builts basaltic clastic deposits below sea level, by early Surtseyan-type explosive eruption and later effusive lava eruptions. Mineral assemblage, major and trace element chemistry indicate that the Someori sub-alkaline lava flows were related to the WPTB(within plate tholeiitic basalt) rather than IAT(island-arc tholeiite) and that the geotectonic regime of Korean Peninsula went away from the subduction zone after the Later Miocene.

  • Bridge decks are directly exposed to traffic loads and environmental conditions like rainfall water and de-icing chemicals. In this reason, there are often observed the deteriorations of asphalt overlay and concrete deck. In this study, 32 concrete decks were evaluated by the road inspection vehicle and the GPR mounted on the vehicle. The GPR could detect the deteriorations of concrete decks under asphalt overlay, even though the asphalt overlay looks like soundness. Therefore, for the efficient maintenance of concrete bridge decks, GPR examination should be performed with visual inspection.
