  • This study was to suggest the propagation path loss and predictive model of propagation path analysis in order to apply the frequency in the millimeter-wave band to the real time inter-vehicle communication system. This study was to suppose the case of inter-vehicle communication on the one-way two-lanes road in the big cites with a lot of traffic jams in order to analyze the effect by the reflected wave of multipath. As a simulation of suggested model, it found out that the propagation path by the reflected wave was about 0.1[m]$\sim$5.1[m] longer than the one by the direct wave during the transmission of 100[m] wave direct path. Also, as a result of comparing the propagation path loss, the loss would be about -0.8[dB]$\sim$-4.2[dB] larger in case of wall reflection and -0.8[dB]$\sim$-1[dB] vehicle reflection. From the result above, this researcher found out that the path loss of reflected wave produced by the walls was about -3.2[dB] larger than the path loss produced by the adjacent vehicles.

  • This research develops an ultrasonic sensor to measure the distance in underwater. The ultrasonic transducer transmits an acoustic signal to an object and receives the echo signal reflected from the object. The ultrasonic driver calculates a distance by multiplying the acoustic speed to the time of flight(TOF) which is the time necessary for the acoustic signal to travel from the transducer to the object. We apply a thresholding and a cross correlation methods to detect the TOF and show their results. When an echo pulse is corrupted with noise and its shape is distorted, the cross correlation method is used to find the TOF based on the maximum similarity between the reference and the delayed echo signals. The echoes used for the reference signal are achieved at the different environments, which improves the performance of the sensor. This paper describes the driver of the acoustic sensor and analyzes the performance of sensors in different measurement environments.

  • A problem of ground subsidence has been a focus of our research over the past 3 years. The purpose of this study is to investigate the disturbed stratigraphic structure by mining and to separate the possible ground subsidence area using shallow seismic reflection survey and processing. To overcome the problems such as the distortion and attenuation of seismic signal caused by ground disturbance and to acquire the high frequency data, an array with short spacing (0.3m) for both the shot and receivers, yielding near-offset (<30m) and CMP spacing of 0.15m was implemented. Data were acquired along the survey line with length of about 43m by fixed receiver array. By considering statics caused by the ground disturbance and offset distribution of data, careful processing steps such as muting and residual statics correction were applied for successful shallow reflection imaging. By correlating the ground subsidence data and stack section, possible subsidence zone could be interpreted quantitatively.

  • Pressure waves are generated and propagate in a tunnel when train enters tunnel high speed. A compression wave due to the entry of train head propagates along the tunnel and is reflected at tunnel exit as an expansion wave. An expansion wave due to the entry of the train tail propagates along the tunnel and is reflected at tunnel exit as a compression wave. These pressure waves are repeatedly propagated and reflected at the tunnel entrance and exit. Severe pressure changes causes ear-discomfort for passengers in the cabin and micro pressure waves around the tunnel exit. It is necessary to analyze the transient pressure phenomena in tunnels qualitatively and quantitatively, because pressure change rate is considered as one of the major design parameters for optimal tunnel cross sectional area and repeated fatigue force on car body. In this study, we developed a characteristics method based on a fixed mesh system and boundary conditions for crossing trains and analyzed this system using an X-t diagram. The results of the simulation show that offsetting of pressure waves occurs for special entry conditions of a crossing train.

  • Water waves are generated mainly by winds in open seas and large lakes. They carry a significant amount of energy from winds into near-shore region. Thereby they significantly contribute to the regional hydrodynamics and transport process, producing strong physical, geological and environmental impact on coastal environment and on human activities in the coastal area. Furthermore an accurate prediction of the hydrodynamic effects due to wave interaction with offshore structures is a necessary requirement in the design, protection and operation of such structures. In the present paper surface and internal waves scattering by thin surface-piercing and bottom-standing vertical barriers in a two-layer fluid is analyzed in two-dimensions within the context of linearized theory of water waves. The reflection coefficients for surface and internal waves are computed and analyzed in various cases. It is found that wave reflection is strongly dependent on the interface location and the fluid density ratio apart from the barrier geometry.

  • The design method of a wave absorber for a perfectly conducting sphere is presented. The backscattered field from a coated sphere can be represented as the sum of the reflected field and the creeping wave. The wave absorber for a curved surface has been designed from that the reflection coefficient of the reflected field is zero. For the design of wave absorber for a small sized conducting sphere, the creeping wave should be considered as well as the reflected field. The perfect absorbing conditions are numerically searched using the Newton-Raphson method from the backscattered field of the eigenfunction series solution from a coated sphere. The wave absorber designed by this method exhibits a superior performance of absorption to that designed from the plate type absorbing condition.

  • In this study, for the purpose of evaluating the shear wave velocity in core zone, cross-hole test, down-hole test, MASW (Multi-channel Analysis of Surface Wave), and seismic reflection survey were carried out on the crest of the existing 'Y' dam. The results of field tests were compared one another. Furthermore, the field test results were compared with the result by the Sawada's empirical recommendation method. The purpose of this study is to compare the results of four kinds of field tests for evaluation of shear wave velocity in core zone of existing dam, to verify applicability of the empirical method which was recommended by Sawada and Takahashi, and to recommend a reasonable method for evaluation of shear wave velocity which is needed to evaluate tile maximum shear modulus of core zone. From the results of four kinds of field tests such as cross-hole test, down-hole test, MASW, and seismic reflection survey, it was found that the shear wave velocity distributions were similar within 18 m in depth and the results obtained by MASW and seismic reflection survey were almost the same by 30 m in depth. For evaluation of shear wave velocity in core zone of the existing dam, in consideration that it is not easy to bore the hole ill the core zone of existing dam, surface surveys such as MASW and seismic reflection method are recommended as realistic methods. On condition that it is impossible to conduct the field test and it is preliminary investigation, it is recommended that Sawada's low bound empirical equation be used.
