Statistical Life Prediction of Corroded Pipeline Using Bayesian Inference (베이지안 추론법을 이용한 부식된 배관의 통계적 수명예측)

  • Pipelines are used by large heavy industries to deliver various types of fluids. Since this is important to maintain the performance of large systems, it is necessary to accurately predict remaining life of the corroded pipeline. However, predicting the remaining life is difficult due to uncertainties in the associated variables, such as geometries, material properties, corrosion rate, etc. In this paper, a statistical method for predicting corrosion remaining life is proposed using Bayesian inference. To accomplish this, pipeline failure probability was calculated using prior information about pipeline failure pressure according to elapsed time, and the given experimental data based on Bayes' rule. The corrosion remaining life was calculated as the elapsed time with 10 % failure probability. Using 10 and 50 samples generated from random variables affecting the corrosion of the pipe, the pipeline failure probability was estimated, after which the estimated remaining useful life was compared with the assumed true remaining useful life.

A Study on the Failure Characteristic of Laminated Composites Joint Containing Two Holes in Series or Parallel (복합적층판의 직병렬 유공 접합부의 파손연구)

  • A series of test was performed by measuring the failure strength and the failure mode of fiber reinforced composite laminates joint containing two holes in Series or Parallel. $[0^{\circ}/45^{\circ}/90^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}]_s$ laminate with W/d(Side distance ratio) 4.0 and E/d(Edge distance ratio) 3.0 has the full bearing strength and are preferable in case of the good efficiency in two series hole. Comparisons were made between testing results and predicting values of the FEM model. Good agreements were fecund between them except the case of $E/d=2{\sim}3$. In the case of $G_h{\geq}3.0d$ and $G_v{\geq}3.0d$ since the interaction coefficients between two parallel holes and between two series holes were small, holes can be treated as independent. The Acoustic Emission(AE) and SEM method were utilized to find out the initial defects, damage and the fracture mechanism.

  • This study investigates the bending stress, shear stress and deformation energy happening at the inner fiber structure when the bending moment is applied to he specimen with flat shape composed of carbon fiber. As CFRP is composed of innumerable fibers with multi-axes, the stress under bending condition can be effectively distributed. Theses stresses is shown to increase again at the starting point as this angle of $60^{\circ}$. Therefore, the condition at the stacking angle of $60^{\circ}$ is seen to become most adequate under the state where the bending stress happens. On the basis of this study result, the damage property by the bending at the plate due to stacking angle was examined through the analytic approach. it is thought that this study can be devoted to the safe design for damage prevention and durabilty improvement. Also, the esthetic sense can be shown as the designed factor of shape with flat plate is grafted onto the convergence technique.

  • In this paper, a lightweight design of the spar cap of 2MW wind turbine blade was carried out using the ply reduction ratio (PRR) and CFRP with a trade-off study. The spar cap is one of the most critical factor in determining the mechanical performance of the blade. Tsai-Wu and Puck fracture theory were used to determine the fracture. As a result, the CFRP composite material could be lighter in terms of weight by about 30% than GFRP composite material under the same conditions. Based on the analytical results, we derive the optimal value of the laminate thickness of the composite material and present the structural performance improvement and the lightweight design result.

Reliability Analysis for Fracture of Concrete Armour Units (콘크리트 피복재의 단면파괴에 대한 신뢰성 해석)

  • A fracture or breakage of the concrete armor units in the primary cover layer of breakwaters is studied by using the reliability analysis which may be defined as the structural stability. The reliability function can be derived as a function of the angle of rotation that represents the rocking of armor units quantitatively. The relative influences of all of random variables related to the material and geometric properties on the fracture of armor units is analyzed in detail. In addition, the probability of failure for the fracture of individual armor unit can be evaluated as a function of the incident wave height. Finally, Bernoulli random process and the allowable fracture ratio may be introduced together in this paper, by which the probability of failure of a breakwater due to the fracture of armer units can be obtained straightforwardly. It is found that the probability of failure of a breakwater due to the fracture of armor units may be varied with the several allowable fracture ratios. Therefore, it should be necessary to consider the structural stability as well as the hydraulic stability for the design of breakwaters with multi-leg slender concrete armor units of large size under wave action in deep water.

  • In this paper, an integrated probabilistic strength analysis was conducted to predict the reliability of a composite pressure vessel under inner pressure loading condition. As a probabilistic strength analysis, the probabilistic progressive failure model consisting of progressive failure model and Monte Carlo simulation was incorporated with a commercial FEA code, ABAQUS Standard, to perform the probabilistic failure analysis of composite structure which has a complex shape and boundary conditions. As design random variables, the laminar strengths of each direction were considered. Finally, from probabilistic strength analysis, the scattering of burst pressure could be explained and the reliability of composite pressure vessel could be obtained for each component. In case of composite structures in mass production, the effects of uncertainties in material and manufacturing on the performance of composite structures would apparently become larger. So, the probabilistic strength analysis is essential for the structural design of composite structures in mass production.
