  • In Korea, the hydraulic model tests for measuring the wave overtopping have been almost conducted with no bottom slope or single slope condition in Korea. In this study, the bottom seabed for the coastal road area was fabricated at the wave flume and the wave overtopping was measured. The overtopping rate was also measured with the numerical modelling by OLAFoam. The measuring data were compared with EurOtop manual. It could be known the the influence of the foreslope in front of the vertical wall was significant and the these effects should be concerned when designing the coastal structures. And also it could be known that OLAFoam could be used to predict the wave overtopping rate for the complex bottom topography.

  • In the medical field, the hardening of tissues is one of important informations used in diagnosis or understanding progress of disease, a quantitative measuring method of hardening is important for objective diagnosis. It has been proposed MRE(Magnetic Resonance Elastography) method that measures an index of hardening, viscoelastic properties in a noninvasive. Because the S/N ratio of MRE images go down when measuring viscoelastic properties from local wavelength and local damping factor of a propagating wave in MRE method, methods using multiple phase MRE images have been examined to decrease the effect of noise. We propose a method measuring viscoelastic properties after Fitting a function for multiple phase MRE images in this research. This proposed method has a advantage to set up arbitrarily the variation rate of a space direction of viscoelastic properties or the spatial resolution of measuring values according to changing of the noise included in images, though it applies viscoelastic wave for multiple phase MRE images. We confirmed the effectiveness of a proposed method by experiment using simulation images and experiment using silicone-gel phantom.

  • In this study, continuous long-term observation is implemented with an ocean radar. Ocean radar conducts remote observation (combined) with ground-based radars, which enable a series of simultaneous observations of an extensive range of the coast with high frequency. An ocean radar for continuous long-term observation is operated at Samcheok on the east coast of Korea. Samcheok experienced tsunami damage in recent years and is the location of a nuclear power plant. In order to examine the reliability of the ocean radar, a pressure-type wave gauge, ultrasonic wave gauge, and ocean buoy are installed for the purpose of data comparison and verification. The ocean radar used in this study is an array-type HF-RADAR named WERA (WavE RAdar). The analysis of the data obtained from continuous long-term observations showed that the radar observations were in agreement with more than 90% of the wave data collected within a 25 km range from the center of two sites. Less than 1% of the entire observation data was unmeasured by the time series analysis. As a result of comparing the radar data with the direct observations made by the wave gauge, it was inferred that the RMS deviation is less than 20cm and the correlation coefficient was in the range of 0.84 ~ 0.87. Moreover, supported by such observations, a comprehensive monitoring system is being developed to provide the public with real-time reports on waves and currents via the internet.

  • In the preliminary investigation (Park et al., 2009), the use of compressional wave velocity and its measurement techniques were proposed as a new quality control measure for trackbed fills. The methodology follows exactly the same procedure as the density control, except the density being replaced by the compressional wave velocity involving consistently with resilient modulus of design stage. The specifications for the control also include field compaction water content of optimum moisture content ${\pm}2%$ as well as the compressional wave velocity. In this sequel paper, crosshole and resonant column tests were performed as well direct-arrival method and laboratory compressional wave measurements to verify the practical applicability of a methodology far the new quality control procedure based upon compressional wave velocity. The stress-modified crosshole results reasonably well agree with the direct-arrival values, and the resonant column test results also agree well with the field crosshole results. The compressional wave velocity turned out to be an excellent control measure for trackbed fills both in the theoretical and practical point of view.

  • In this paper, the IED(Intelligent Electronic Devices) with the consideration of harmonic problems is discussed, With significant development of power electronics technology, the proliferation of a nonlinear load has more deteriorated power quality, As continuous harmonic current makes for a shortening lifetime, overheat and abnormal operation, it should be considered to improve these problems. However, the conventional digital protective relay which eliminates harmonic elements with orthogonal filter has a defect on actually implementation. The prototype IED is constructed with Digital Signal Processor(TMS320C32) and Complex Programmable Logic Device. According to the experiment and simulation results, it is proved that the proposed system has good performance of measuring harmonic factors and protecting electrical equipment.

  • In this study, a numerical simulation technique for coastal area where wave and current interactions are observed is proposed. Considering the spatial scale of coastal area and the coastal processes such as wave, current, shoaling, wave breaking, and inundation processes, boussinesq equation model is used. A depth-integrated transport model based on the consistent assumption with the boussinesq equation model is used for the prediction of solute transport. To solve the equations, finite volume method with an approximate riemann solver is used. The proposed model is applied to a coastal area and reasonable computational results are obtained.

  • Uphole test is a seismic field test using receivers on ground surface and a source in depth. In this paper, the uphole test using SPT(standard penetration test) which is economical and reliable for obtaining shear wave velocity profile was introduced. In the proposed uphole test, SPT sampler which is common in site investigation, was used as a source and several 1Hz geophones in line were used as receivers. Test procedures in field and interpretation methods for obtaining interval times and for determining shear wave velocity profile considering refracted ray path were introduced. Finally, uphole test was performed at three sites, and the applicability of the proposed uphole test was verified by comparing wave velocity profiles determined by the uphole test with the profiles determined by downhole test, SASW test and SPT-N values.

  • The objective of this study is to assess plastic deformation in aluminium alloy by acoustic nonlinearity of laser-generated surface waves. A line-arrayed laser beam made by high-power pulsed laser and mask slits is utilized to generate the narrowband surface wave and the frequency characteristics of laser-generated surface waves are controlled by varying the slit opening width and slit interval of mask slits. Various degrees of tensile deformation were induced by interrupting the tensile tests so as to obtain aluminum specimens with different degrees of plastic deformation. The experimental results show that the acoustic nonlinear parameter of a laser-generated surface wave increased with the level of tensile deformation and it has a good correlation with the results of micro-Vickers hardness test and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) test. Consequently, acoustic nonlinearity of laser-generated surface wave could be potential to characterize plastic deformation of aluminum alloy.

  • In the present study, a numerical model using Boussinesq equation is set up to predict the interacted equilibrium between waves and their induced currents in the occurrence of breaking waves over an underwater shoal, and the numerical results are compared with results of existing hydraulic experiments. A sensitivity analysis has been done to find out appropriate values of breaking wave parameters with the result (regular wave case) of Vincent and Briggs (1989)’ experiment. Then the numerical model is applied to the irregular wave cases of the experiment and the hydraulic model test of Ieodo which is a natural undersea shoal. The results show that a strong current forms in the wave direction at the downstream side of the shoals, causing the attenuation of wave heights there. The calculated wave heights generally show a similar pattern with the measured data.
