In this paper the TRMS (Tilting Rolling-stock Maintenance System) that applies the concept of RAM (Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability) and RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) to Preventive and Corrective Maintenance Policy for TTX (Tilting Train Express) will be discussed. We will briefly introduce the RCM concepts and discus show these concepts and procedures are implemented in the TRMS S/W. In the TRMS S/W there are four modules, System and Operations Information Module, FMECA(Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis)module, RAM Information Module, and RCM Analysis Module. The System and Operations Information Module provides the user interface for collection of systems and operations related data and the FMECA module provides a groundwork for the RCM analysis. The algorithms to calculate the reliability and failure rate for Weibull distribution and formulae to calculate the task intervals and task costs are proposed in the RAM and RCM Analysis Module respectively. There is a good possibility of applying RCM to other rolling stock maintenance systems if the benefit that RCM can brings to the maintenance world is fully recognized.
Small high-resolution Earth observation satellites require precise optical alignment at the submicron level. However, misalignments can occur due to the influence of external factors during the launch and operation despite the sufficient alignment processes that take place before the launch. Thus, satellites need to realign their optical elements in orbit in what is known as a refocusing process to compensate for any misalignments. Refocusing algorithms developed for satellites have only considered de-space, which is the most sensitive factor with respect to image quality. However, the existing algorithms can cause correction error when inner and external forces generate tilt amount in an optical system. The present work suggests an improved online refocusing algorithm by considering the tilting effect for application in the case of a de-spaced and tilted optical system. In addition, the algorithm is considered to be efficient in terms of time and cost because it is designed to be used as an online method that does not require ground communication.

A lot of manufacturing knowledge and method have applied to increase manufacturing efficiency in industry field. DES(Discrete Event Simulation) is one of solution to deal with manufacturing problems in factory. Beginning of research, old maintenance system of KNR ( Korea National Railroad) and its technical problems are basically investigated. KNR has maintained railway vehicle with their own solution based on experience. Very advanced railway vehicles such as KTX (Korea Train Express) and TTX(Tilting Train Express) will be difficult to maintain with their old maintenance method. In order to apply knowledge of DES, maintenance field of railway must be considered. Imaginary maintenance machine are selected to variable of DES. Maintenance capability of each machine will be evaluated base on imaginary data from imaginary machine. The machine could be very expensive as well as difficult to replace. Target of research is minimization of number of machine in railway workshop. So basic knowledge of discrete event simulation is introduced. Then five essential stages of discrete event simulation are provided. Each maintenance case defined as event. Each event is discrete and simulated base on different case such as one maintenance line with one machine and one maintenance line with two machines in railway workshop. simple maintenance method, discrete event simulation, will be come out very powerful in complicate maintenance system and will be helpful to reduce maintenance cost as well as maintenance labor.

This paper is a purpose to study the failure example for heavy-duty vehicle fire. The first example, the researcher found the engine over-heating phenomenon causing a coolant leakage by the sealing poor of head-gasket because of D-ring part deformation contacting with cylinder liner top-part and cylinder head. He certified a fire breakout by short transferred to surrounding wiring of air-cleaner. The second example, a brake lining by return fault of break operating S cam causing with much wear of a rear 4 wheel brake lining repeatably was worn by friction. In the long run, it became the cause of fire. The third example, the researcher knew the fire cause was came about the short of wire by overload of tilting motor when the driver tilted up the cap to inspect a engine. Therefore, a heavy-duty fire must minimize the fire occurrence by thorough controlling.

In this study, By the time that TTX technology is adopted as railway rolling stock, we analyzed quantitatively energy saving by reducing the power consumption with the reduction of the operation time through the speed improvement and suggested the necessity to introduce TTX technology in the domestic rail vehicles. The effect of energy saving by comparing and analyzing the power consumption during the operation by TTX Hanvit 200 and 8200 electric locomotives to pull trains on the same line was suggested and the efficiency of the main devices(i.e C/I) of Hanvit 200 was compared and analyzed by measuring the power consumption by a single unit. For improving KORAIL management environment, reducing energy usage is an urgent challenge, its measures for solving them are constantly considered in many areas. In addition, at the time of improving the conventional track to speed up and changing the signals, Tilting technology will be contributed to the management environment by enlarging the passengers' demand through the reduction of the operation time and saving energy using the existing infrastructure.
As the evaluation of loading characteristic on tilting mechanism is the most important one of the function test of tilting mechanism, the changing characteristic of load must be investigated on tilting of carbody for both the static and running condition of train. In this study, we reduced the load of tilting mechanism by adjusting the interface of carbody and bogie such as the weight balance, level of underframe, height of leveling valve, height of axle box and center position of tilting actuator with the characteristic curve of load for optimal condition of the tilting mechanism obtained in the previous study. Furthermore, the factor and effect of the interfacial structures respecting the load of tilting mechanism was evaluated by analyzing the changing characteristic of load obtained in the process of adjustment of interfaces. From these data, we will propose the maintenance standards for interfacial structures and tilting mechanism in order to minimize the load of tilting mechanism by analyzing in detail the characteristic of load for the main factors of the interfacial structure effecting on the load of tilting mechanism.
Based on the stability criteria of ZMP (Zero Moment Point), this paper proposes an adjusting algorithm that modifies walking trajectory of a bipedal robot for stable walking by analyzing ZMP trajectory of it. In order to maintain walking balance of the bipedal robot, ZMP should be located within a supporting polygon that is determined by the foot supporting area with stability margin. Initially tilting imposed to the trajectory of the upper body is proposed to transfer ZMP of the given walking trajectory into the stable region for the minimum stability. A neural network method is also proposed for the stable walking trajectory of the biped robot. It uses backpropagation learning with angles and angular velocities of all joints with tilting to get the improved walking trajectory. By applying the optimized walking trajectory that is obtained with the neural network model, the ZMP trajectory of the bipedal robot is certainly located within a stable area of the supporting polygon. Experimental results show that the optimally learned trajectory with neural network gives more stability even though the tilting of the pelvic joint has a great role for walking stability.

Squeal, a kind of self-excited vibration, is generated by the friction between the disc and the friction materials. It occurs at the ending stage of the braking process, and radiates and audible frequency range of 1 kHz to 10 kHz. Squeal is generated from unstability because of the coupling between the translation and rotation of the system. This instability is caused by the follower force and follower force is normal component of the friction force. In this paper modal analysis of wheel brake system was performed in order to predict the squeal phenomenon. It was shown that the prediction of system instability is possible by FEM. A finite element model of that brake system was made. Some parts of a real brake was selected and modeled. Modal analysis method performs analyses of each brake system component. Experimental modal analysis was performed for each brake components and experimental results were compared with analytical results from FEM. To predict the dynamic unstability of a whole system, the complex eigenvalue analysis for assembly modeling of components confirmed by modal analysis is performed. The finite element models of the disk brake assembly have been constructed, and the squeal noise problems have been solved by complex eigenvalue analysis. The complex eigenvalue analysis results compared with real train test.
With the increase in population, the area of human activities has expanded, resulting in the dramatic increase in the need for transportation system. Tilting trains are currently in operation in 13 countries around the world. This paper describes a lens transmissive type tilting actuator for a projection TV. An electromagnetic analysis and a structural analysis of the tilting actuator system is necessary to design a tilting actuator for a projection TV. The tilting actuator is composed a permanent magnet, coil and yoke as the electromagnetic components and it needs a driving hinge part as the mechanical component. The design of the tilting actuator for the projection TV is performed by the following procedure. Firstly, a magnetic flux density of the tilting actuator system is analyzed by a mathematical theory and an electromagnetic FEM. Secondary, a magnetic circuit method is used to determine tilting force. Thirdly, the structural FEM is carried out with an FE model of a lens-transmissive type tilting actuator and then the prototype of the model is manufactured. The characteristic of the prototype is experimentally observed. Finally, a design for a new hinge configuration is suggested for better performance.
