  • It is introduced an approach to model for numerical analysis of a sound absorbing material that has different absorbing coefficient according to frequency. For modeling of a sound absorbing material, we tried to model by a traditional modeling method. But it had large differences on frequency domain, especially a capacitance component due to increasing of frequency. We approach to model a sound absorbing material by the Debye polarization technique with non-linear least square method. At first, we estimated parameters form a polyurethane with thickness 25 mm, then we could model a polyurethane with thickness 50 mm using same parameters. Therefor, we could find that the Debye polarization is an useful way to model sound absorbing materials.

  • To obtain good recognition performance of speech recognition system under background noise, it is very important to select appropriate feature parameters of speech. The feature parameter used in this paper is Mel frequency cepstral coefficient (MFCC) with the human auditory characteristics applied to Wiener filter method. That is, the feature parameter proposed in this paper is a new method to extract the parameter of clean speech signal after removing background noise. The proposed method implements the speaker recognition by inputting the proposed modified MFCC feature parameter into a multi-layer perceptron network. In this experiments, the speaker independent recognition experiments were performed using the MFCC feature parameter of the 14th order. The average recognition rates of the speaker independent in the case of the noisy speech added white noise are 94.48%, which is an effective result. Comparing the proposed method with the existing methods, the performance of the proposed speaker recognition is improved by using the modified MFCC feature parameter.

  • Currently, the majority of systems which are non-linear are in need of the correct system equations for controlling and monitoring. Therefore, the correct estimation of parameters is crucial. Generally, parameters are changed due to system deterioration or sudden environmental alterations. Given the limitations of system monitoring unstable controls can arise. In the following paper, the parameter estimation method is proposed using software filters to combat these system instabilities. For dynamic instances, a powerful particle filter is used to control the nonlinear and noisy environments in which they take place. Using a setup simulation comprised of a slider and pendulum, the state variable of noise is obtained. After collecting the data, the proposed algorithm is used to estimate both the state variable and its parameters. Finally, these results are checked with correct parameter estimations to evaluate and verify the algorithms performance.

  • This paper defines the probability models for determining the disparity map given stereo images and derives the methods for solving the problem, which is proven to be equivalent to an energy-based stereo matching. Under the assumptions the difference between the pixel on the left image and the corresponding pixel on the right image and the difference between the disparities of the neighboring pixels are exponentially distributed, a recursive approach for estimating the MRF regularizing parameter is proposed. Usually energy-based stereo matching methods are so sensitive to the parameter that it should be carefully determined. The proposed method alternates between estimating the parameter with the intermediate disparity map and estimating the disparity map with the estimated parameter, after computing it with random initial parameter. It is shown that the parameter estimated by the proposed method converges to the optimum and its performance can be improved significantly by adjusting the parameter and modifying the energy term.

  • In this paper, we propose a rate control algorithm for constant quality real time video coding. To achieve constant quality, previous algorithm exploit mean absolute of difference(MAD) as measure of frame complexity. However, if scene is abruptly changed or if quantization parameter is not constant, encoder produces various output bits with same MAD. Therefore we know that MAD does not appropriately reflect characteristic of frame. To solve this problem, we exploit model parameter as measure of frame complexity. Because model parameter means slope between output bits and MAD, it reflects correctly complexity of frame. And because previous model, R-MAD model, is not considered quantization parameter, as quantization parameter increases or decreases, model parameter of frame also vary. So model parameter obtained using previous model cannot reflect internal characteristic of video. We solve this problem using proposed model, which is considered quantization parameter. Experiment results show that our algorithm provide better performance, in terms of quality smoothness than previous algorithm. Especially, when scene is abruptly changed, our algorithm alleviates quality drop.

  • This paper presents an equal bit rate control algorithm utilizing the statistical change between the previous frame and the current frame. The previous studies on the model-based rate control have focused on the models of bit rate and distortion in types of coders, in terms of the quantization parameter. The proposed algorithm improves the typical model-based rate control by updating a model parameter instead of modeling a better model of the rate and distortion. The proposed algorithm updates this model parameter by recognizing the change in statistics between the previous frame and the current frame. We implement the proposed algorithm in MPEG-4 coders and verify its performance while comparing it to the TMN8's approach (up to 0.6dB of improvement).

  • In this study, the in-situ stress, strength and stress-strain characteristics with shear parameters (UU, CU, ${\bar{CU}}$) are analytically evaluated and the stability analyses are carried out under loading/unloading conditions. The in-situ stress and the stress-strain behaviour may become different according to input shear parameters in finite element analyses with construction step, Especially, if the internal friction angle in Mohr-Coulomb model is set to zero, the in-situ stress and the stress-strain behaviour might not be properly predicted. The results from CU parameter of total stress analysis have no significant difference with the results from CU of effective stress analysis. Therefore, in the numerical analysis for soft ground, CU parameters can be applied to predict in-situ stress and stress-strain behaviors. In addition, the calculation method was proposed to determine the shear parameter of Mohr-Coulomb model, which is corresponding to the shear strength equivalent to that of in-situ soil.
