  • A bed level change model(SED-FLUX) is introduced based on the realistic sediment transport process including bed load and suspended load behaviours at the bottom boundary layer. The model SED-FLUX includes wave module, hydrodynamic module and sediment transport and diffusion module that calculate suspended sediment concentration, net sediment erosion flux($Q_s$) and bed load flux. Bed load transport rate is evaluated by the van Rijn's TRANSPOR program which has been verified in wave-current fields. The net sediment erosion flux($Q_s$) at the bottom is evaluated as a source/sink term in the numerical sediment diffusion model where the suspended sediment concentration becomes a verification parameter of the $Q_s$. Bed level change module calculates a bed level change amount(${\Delta}h_{i,j}$) and updates a bed level. For the model verification the limit depth of the bed load transport is compared with the field experiment data and some formula on the threshold depth for the bed load movement by waves and currents. This model is applied to the beach profile changes by waves, then the model shows a clear erosion and accumulation profile according to the incident wave characteristics. Finally the beach evolution by waves and wave-induced currents behind the offshore breakwater is calculated, where the model shows a tombolo formation in the landward area of the breakwater.

  • The ultimate behavior of reinforced concrete corbel is complicated due to the primary design variables including the shear span-to-effective depth ratio a/d, flexural reinforcement ratio, load condition, and material properties. In this study, a simple indeterminate strut-tie model reflecting all characteristics of the ultimate strength and complicated structural behavior is proposed for the design of the reinforced concrete corbels with shear span-to-effective depth ratio of $a/d{\leq}1$. A load distribution ratio, defined as the fraction of applied load transferred by horizontal truss mechanism, is also proposed to help structural designers perform the design of reinforced concrete corbels by using the strut-tie model approaches of current design codes. For the development of the load distribution ratio, numerous material nonlinear finite element analyses of the proposed indeterminate strut-tie model were conducted by changing primary design variables. The ultimate strengths of reinforced concrete corbels tested to failure were evaluated by incorporating the proposed strut-tie model and load distribution ratio into the ACI 318-11's strut-tie model method. The validity of the proposed model and load distribution ratio was examined by comparing the strength analysis results with those by the ACI 318-11's conventional design method and strut-tie model methods of current design codes.

  • The failure behavior of reinforced concrete beams is governed by the mechanical relationships between the shear span-to-effective depth ratio, flexural reinforcement ratio, load and support conditions, and material properties. In this study, two simple indeterminate strut-tie models which can reflect all characteristics of the failure behavior of reinforced concrete beams were proposed. The proposed models are effective for the beams with shear span-to-effective depth ratio of less than 3. For each model, a load distribution ratio, defined as the fraction of load transferred by a truss mechanism, is also proposed to help structural designers perform the rational design of the beams by using the strut-tie model approaches of current design codes. In the determination of the load distribution ratios, the effect of the primary design variables including shear span-to-effective depth ratio, flexural reinforcement ratio, and compressive strength of concrete was reflected through numerous material nonlinear analysis of the proposed indeterminate strut-tie models. In the companion paper, the validity of the proposed models and load distribution ratios was examined by applying them to the evaluation of the failure strength of 335 reinforced concrete beams tested to failure by others.

  • The biological resources research data around the world are not only very critical themselves but should be shared and utilized. Up to now, the biological resources have been compiled and managed individually depending on the purpose and characteristics of the study without any clear standard. So, in this study, the data reference model would be suggested which is applicable in the phase ranging from the start of the construction of the information system and which can be commonly used. For this purpose, the data model of the related information system would be expanded based on the domestic and foreign standards and data control policy so that the data reference model which can be commonly applicable to individual information system would be developed and its application procedure would be suggested. In addition, for the purpose of proving the excellence of the suggested data reference model, the quality level would be verified by applying the Korgstie's data model evaluation model and its level of data sharing with the domestic and foreign standards would be compared. The test results of this model showed that this model is better than the conventional data model in classifying the data into 4 levels of resources, target, activities and performances and that it has higher quality and sharing level of data in the data reference model which defines the derivation and relation of entity.

  • This study seeks to critically examine the significance and limits of the cluster adaptive cycle model for analysis of cluster evolution and to propose research issues for future analysis of cluster evolution based on this critical examination. Until the 1980s, research on industrial complexes including clusters was based on a 'static perspective' that focuses on the aspect of economic space at a specific point in time, but the research paradigm has recently shifted to a 'dynamic perspective' focusing on 'evolution' of 'complex adaptive systems'. As a result, the adaptive cycle model has attracted attention as an analysis tool of dynamically evolving clusters. However, the cluster adaptive cycle model has emerged by being appropriately modified and expanded according to the properties of the cluster and its evolution. The cluster adaptive cycle model is a comprehensive analysis framework that identifies the characteristics of cluster evolution in terms of resource accumulation, interdependence, and resilience and classifies cluster evolution paths into six different categories. Nevertheless, there is still a need for further discussion and supplementation in terms of theoretical and empirical research to expand and deepen the model. Therefore, research issues for future analysis of cluster evolution are to specify and elaborate the cluster evolution model, to emphasize the concept of resilience, and to verify the applicability and usefulness of the model through empirical research.

  • For a seismic design or performance evaluation of a structure, an experimental investigation on a scale model of the structure or numerical analysis based on the finite element model is considered. Regarding the numerical analysis, a three-dimensional finite element analysis is performed if a high accuracy of the results is required, while a sensitivity or fragility analysis which uses huge seismic ground motions leads to the use of a lumped-mass stick model. The conventional modeling technique to build the lumped-mass stick model calculates the amount of the lumped mass by considering the geometric shape of the structure, like a tributary area. However, the eigenvalues of the conventional model obtained through such a calculation are normally not the same as those of the actual structure. In order to overcome such a deficiency, in this study, a new lumped mass stick model is proposed. The model is named the "frequency adaptive-lumped-mass stick model." It provides the same eigenvalues and similar dynamic responses as the actual structure. A non-prismatic column is considered as an example, and its natural frequencies as well as the dynamic performance of the new lumped model are compared to those of the full-finite element model. To investigate the damping effect on the new model, 1% to 5% of the critical damping ratio is applied to the model and the corresponding results are also compared to those of the finite element model.

  • Various wood defects occur during tree growing or wood processing. Thus, to use wood practically, it is necessary to objectively assess their quality based on the usage requirement by accurately classifying their defects. However, manual visual grading and species classification may result in differences due to subjective decisions; therefore, computer-vision-based image analysis is required for the objective evaluation of wood quality and the speeding up of wood production. In this study, the SIFT+k-NN and CNN models were used to implement a model that automatically classifies knots and analyze its accuracy. Toward this end, a total of 1,172 knot images in various shapes from five domestic conifers were used for learning and validation. For the SIFT+k-NN model, SIFT technology was used to extract properties from the knot images and k-NN was used for the classification, resulting in the classification with an accuracy of up to 60.53% when k-index was 17. The CNN model comprised 8 convolution layers and 3 hidden layers, and its maximum accuracy was 88.09% after 1205 epoch, which was higher than that of the SIFT+k-NN model. Moreover, if there is a large difference in the number of images by knot types, the SIFT+k-NN tended to show a learning biased toward the knot type with a higher number of images, whereas the CNN model did not show a drastic bias regardless of the difference in the number of images. Therefore, the CNN model showed better performance in knot classification. It is determined that the wood knot classification by the CNN model will show a sufficient accuracy in its practical applicability.

  • The bond analysis model equation was proposed through the regression analysis of the experimental values of bond behavior for each rebar. In order to verify the appropriateness of the bond analysis model equation, the bond behaviors calculated by the proposed bond analysis model, BPE model and CMR model were compared with experimental values. The proposed bond model showed the closest behavior to the experimental values when compared to other analysis models. The former models can not consider the different properties of GFRP rebar according to composed materials, mixing and manufacturing method and the latter has limitation to express the relationships between bond behavior because of derived formula by numerical analysis. This study proposed the analytical model different considering bond mechanism according to surface type. In order to verity the appropriateness of the bond analytical model, the bond behaviors calculated by the proposed bond analytical model, BPE model and CMR model were compared with experimental values. The proposed bond model showed the closest behavior to the experimental values when compared to other analysis models.

  • This study investigated the effects of brand awareness and perceived price fairness on the purchase intention of masstige brands and the moderating effect of country of advertising (Korea or China) for the Chinese tourists visiting Korea. Along with the luxury image and the reasonable price range of masstige brands, the effect of Korean models matching with the country of masstige brand and Chinese models for Chinese visitors was examined based on the construal level theory. To test the hypotheses, a 2 (brand awareness H/L)×2 (perceived price fairness)×2 (country of model) factorial design was employed. As a result, brand awareness and price fairness perception were found to have positive effects on the purchase intention of masstige brands, and the moderating effect of the country of advertising models was also significant. With Korean models, the effects of brand awareness and price fairness perception on the purchase intention of masstige brands were higher than with Chinese models. This study sheds light on the fact that for Chinese tourists, Korean advertising models are more effective even with the specific signal like price when they perceive psychological distance.

  • The leopard plant has the characteristic of being used for ornamental purposes when there are yellow spots on the leaves, and is widely used as a bed plant for viewing flowers. To set several indicators to predict the growth of crops with ornamental value, and to quantitatively express the relationship between the indicators are necessary. In this study, we determine a model that estimates the leaf area and the number of flower of Farfugium japonicum Kitam. using leaf length and width, and conducting a regression analysis on some regression models. As an indicator for estimating the leaf area and the number of flower, the leaf length and width of F. japonicum were measured and applied to 8 regression models. As a result of regression analysis of 8 models that estimated leaf area and the number of flower, R2 values of the linear models were all higher than 0.84 and 0.80. As a result of validation, using the most reliable model among the models for estimating the leaf area and the number of flowering, R2 was 0.90 and 0.82, respectively. Using a model that estimates various indicators that can be used for quality evaluation from easy-to-measure morphological factors, the evaluation of ornamental plants will be facilitated.
