Unsteadily Propagating Permeable Mode III Crack in Piezoelectric Materials (압전재료에서 비정상적으로 전파하는 투과형 모드 III 균열)

  • An unsteadily propagating permeable crack in piezoelectric materials (PMs) under anti-plane shear mechanical loading and in-plane electric loading is studied. The equilibrium equations for a transiently propagating crack in a PM are developed, and the solutions on the stress and displacement fields for a permeable crack though an asymptotic analysis are obtained. The influences of piezoelectric constant, dielectric permittivity, time rate of change of the crack tip speed and time rate of change of stress intensity factor on the stress and displacement fields at the transiently propagating crack tip are explicitly clarified. By using the stress and displacements, the characteristics of the stress and displacement at a transiently propagating crack tip in a PM are discussed.

Sloshing Analysis in Rectangular Tank with Porous Baffle (투과성 내부재가 설치된 사각형 탱크내의 슬로싱 해석)

  • An analytical model of liquid sloshing is developed to consider the energy-loss effect through a partially submerged porous baffle in a horizontally oscillating rectangular tank. The nonlinear boundary condition at the porous baffle is derived to accurately capture both the added inertia effects and the energy-loss effects from an equivalent non-linear drag law. Using the eigenfunction expansion method, the horizontal hydrodynamic force (added mass, damping coefficient) on both the wall and baffle induced by the fluid motion is assessed for various combinations of porosity, submergence depth, and the tank's motion amplitude. It is found that a negative value for the added mass and a sharp peak in the damping curve occur near the resonant frequencies. In particular, the hydrodynamic force and free surface amplitude can be largely reduced by installing the proper porous baffle in a tank. The optimal porosity of a porous baffle is near P=0.1.

Analysis on Motion Responses and Transmission Coefficients of a Moored Floating Breakwater in Oblique Incident Waves (경사 입사파중 계류된 부유식 방파제의 운동응답과 투과율 해석)

  • Based on the boundary element method, the motion responses and transmission coefficients of a moored floating breakwater were investigated in oblique waves. To satisfy the outgoing radiation condition in the far field, the fluid domain was divided into inner and outer regions. The complete solution could be obtained by applying the matching conditions between the eigenfunction-based outer solution and BEM-based inner solution. Using the developed predictive tools, the wave exciting forces, added mass, damping coefficients, motion responses, and transmission coefficients were assessed for various combinations of breakwater configuration, wave heading, mooring cables properties, and wave characteristics. It was found that the transmission coefficient for a moored floating breakwater was closely dependent on the motion responses, which were greatly amplified at the resonant frequencies.

  • The possibility and limitation of one dimensional nano scale electron shielder is briefly discussed. A Nano scale electron shielder will reduce the weight and size of shielding materials. However, practical application still requires further research. In this work, we discuss general problems related to nano scale electron shielder, by taking an arbitrary one dimensional potential barrier as an example.

  • 내열 충격성 및 적외선 투과를 갖는 LAS($Li_2O-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$)계 글라스세라믹스를 제조하였다. 본 연구에서는 LAS계에 $TiO_2$를 핵형성제로, 점도를 감소시키기 위해 $P_2O_5$를 첨가하여 유리를 제조한 후, 글라스세라믹 결정상을 석출시켰다. 석출된 주 결정상은 ${\beta}$-eucryptite(SS)이었으며, 열팽창 계수가 거의 제로에 가까운 값을 얻었다. 또한 선택적인 스펙트럼의 흡수를 위한 color dopants에 대한 기초 자료 등이 조사되었다.

Dependencies of Group Velocity and Attenuation Coefficient on Structural Properties in Copper and Nickel Foams with an Open-Celled Structure as Trabecular-Bone-Mimicking Phantoms (해면질골 팬텀으로서 개포된 구조를 갖는 구리폼 및 니켈폼에서 구조적 특성에 대한 군속도 및 감쇠계수의 의존성)

  • In the present study, copper and nickel foams with an open-celled structure as trabecular-bone-mimicking phantoms were used to investigate the dependencies of group velocity and attenuation coefficient on structural properties such as trabecular thickness (Tb.Th) and trabecular separation (Tb.Sp) in trabecular bone. The group velocity and attenuation coefficient of the copper and nickel foams were measured by a through-transmission method in water, using a pair of broadband, unfocused transducers with a diameter of 12.7 mm and a center frequency of 1.0 MHz. The separation of the Biot's fast and slow waves was consistently observed in the ultrasonic signals transmitted through the copper and nickel foams. The group velocities of the copper and nickel foams showed highly positive correlations with Tb.Th and Tb.Sp. The attenuation coefficient of the copper foam showed a highly negative correlation with Tb.Th and Tb.Sp, whereas that of the nickle foam showed a highly positive correlation with Tb.Th and Tb.Sp. These results advance our understanding of those previously reported by other researchers using trabecular bone samples or phantoms.

Determination of the complex refractive index and thickness of MNA/PMMA thin film (MNA/PMMA 고분자박막의 복소굴절율 및 두께결정)

  • The thickness and the spectrum of the complex refractive index in the region 1.5~4.5 eV, of an MNA/PMMA thin film fabricated by spin casting are determined. The film thickness and the refractive index in its transparent region is calculated by modeling the spectroscopic ellipsometry data. The extinction coefficient spectrum is obtained from the absorption spectrum in its non-transparent region. The best fit oscillator parameters of the classical Lorentz oscillator and a quantum mechanical oscillator are found. The complex refractive index spectrum by these oscillators are compared. The present technique can be applied to get the thickness and the complex refractive index of unknown polymer films and thus it will be useful in optical characterization of those films.

A Study on the Characteristics of Coupling Loss factor Associated with Fluid Loading (접수 구조물의 연성손실계수 변화에 관한 연구)

  • Statistical Energy Analysis(SEA) is an efficient tool to predict the broadband noise and vibration for the huge and complex structures such as aircraft and ships. To estimate the noise and vibration by using SEA accurately, the characteristics of SEA parameters associated with fluid loading have to be investigated. In this report, the fluid loaded coupling loss factors were calculated for an 'L' and 'T' type line connections and compared to the ones without fluid loading. Then, the vibration levels for steel box model with 'L' and 'T' type line connection were computed using the fluid loaded and no fluid loaded coupling loss factors, respectively. As a result, the calculated vibration levels of the model using the fluid loaded coupling loss factors were lower than those without fluid loading. As a conclusion, it is necessary to use the fluid loaded coupling loss factors for increasing the prediction accuracy on the noise and vibration of immersed structures.

  • $PbO-B_2O_3-SiO_2-Al_2O_3$, system was investigated for optical, thermal and electrical properties of transparent dielectric. We also studied the reaction between transparent dielectric and transparent electrode(Indium Tin Oxide, ITO) during firing. For the evaluation of properties, dielectrics were prepared under the conditions fired at 520~58$0^{\circ}C$ with 12$\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness. In the reaction between dielectrics and electrode(ITO), In ions diffused into dielectric layer, while Sn ion diffusion was not observed. The coefficient of thermal expansion, the dielectric constant, the glass transition temperature and the transmittance of the dielectric were greatly dependent on PbO content. The increase of the coefficient of thermal expansion and the dielectric constant were monitored by increasing PbO, while the glass transition temperature and the transmittance were decreased. With the increased $Al_2O_3/B_2O_3$ ratio, the coefficient of thermal expansion and the transmittance were decreased, while the dielectric constant was increased. The glass transition temperature did not change significantly.

Pervaporation Separation of Trace Dicholoromethane from Water Using Fluorinated Polysiloxaneimide do Membranes (불소계 폴리실록산이미드 공중합체막을 이용한 저농도 Dichloromethane 수용액의 투과증발)

  • This study reports on the pervaporation separation of a volatile organic compound(VOC), dichloromethane(DCM) from water using fluorinated copolysiloxaneimide membranes. The copolysiloxaneimide membranes were prepared from 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride(6FDA) and two diamines(polysiloxane diamine(SIDA), 2-(perfluorohexyl)ethyl-3,5-diaminobenzene(PFDAB)). By varying the ratio of flexible polysiloxane diamine(SIDA)/rigid fluorinated aromatic diamine(PFDAB) from 0/100 to 100/0 mol%, five copolysiloxaneimide membranes were prepared success- fully. The pervaporation properties of DCM/water were examined in terms of two diamine monomer ratio at room temperature and the feed composition of 0.05 wt% in water. It was found that the increase in SIDA content led to high permeation flux and pervaporation selectivity towards DCM by the enhanced sorption/sorption selectivity and diffusion coefficient/diffusion selectivity due to the increased hydrophobicity and fractional free volume.
