The Effect of the Crystalline Phase of Zirconia for the Dehydration of Iso-propanol (이소프로판올의 탈수반응에서 지르코니아 촉매의 결정상에 따른 영향)

  • Zirconium hydroxide was synthesized by varying the aging time of the zirconyl chloride octahydrate at $100^{\circ}C$ in aqueous solution and the resulting hydroxides were calcined at $700^{\circ}C$ for 6 h to obtain the crystalline $ZrO_2$. The materials used in this study were characterized by differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), $N_2$-sorption, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), $NH_3$ temperature-programmed desorption ($NH_3$-TPD), $CO_2$-TPD and iso-propanol TPD analyses to correlate with catalytic activity for the dehydration of iso-propanol. The pure tetragonal $ZrO_2$ phase was obtained after 24 h aging of zirconium hydroxide and successive calcination at $700^{\circ}C$. The increase of aging time showed the production of smaller particle size $ZrO_2$ resulting that the higher specific surface area and total pore volume. $NH_3$-TPD results revealed that the relative acidity of the catalysts increased along with the increase of aging time. On the other hand, the results of $CO_2$-TPD showed the reverse trend of $NH_3$-TPD results. The best catalytic activity for the dehydration of iso-propanol to propylene was shown over $ZrO_2$ catalyst aged for 168 h which had the highest $S_{BET}$ ($178\;m^2\;g^{-1}$). The catalytic activity could be correlated with high surface area, relative acidity and easy desorption of iso-propanol.

Analysis for Atomic Structural Deterioration and Electrochemical Properties of Li-rich Cathode Materials for Lithium Ion Batteries (리튬이차전지용 리튬과잉계 양극 산화물의 충방전 과정 중 원자 구조 열화 과정과 전기화학 특성에 대한 분석)

  • Recently, various degradation mechanisms of lithium secondary battery cathode materials have been revealed. As a result, many studies on overcoming the limitation of cathode materials and realizing new electrochemical properties by controlling the degradation mechanism have been reported. Li-rich layered oxide is one of the most promising cathode materials due to its high reversible capacity. However, the utilization of Li-rich layered oxide has been restricted, because it undergoes a unique atomic structure change during the cycle, in turn resulting in unwanted electrochemical degradations. To understand an atomic structure deterioration mechanism and suggest a research direction of Li-rich layered oxide, we deeply evaluated the atomic structure of 0.4Li2MnO3_0.6LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 Li-rich layered oxide during electrochemical cycles, by using an atomic-resolution analysis tool. During a charge process, Li-rich materials undergo a cation migration of transition metal ions from transition metal slab to lithium slab due to the structural instability from lithium vacancies. As a result, the partial structural degradation leads to discharge voltage drop, which is the biggest drawback of Li-rich materials.

Changes of Forest Soil and Herb Layer Composition by Group Breeding of Herons (백로(白鷺)와 왜가리의 집단번식(集團繁殖)에 의한 삼림토양(森林土壤) 및 초본층(草本層) 구조(構造)의 변화(變化))

  • Community structure and soil properties of larch forest which are used for breeding site by herons were studied at Apgogri, Hoengsung, Kangwon Province. This site has been protected as a Natural Monument(No. 248) from 1973, in Korea. Herons have used this habitat from February to October every year. In 1995, more than 700 herons were observed in this habitat. Most of the larches died due to group breeding of herons, and no larch saplings were found at forest floor. Nutrient contents of soil in this habitat were much higher than those in control plot(non-breeding site). This must be due to the addition of faeces from herons and of thin twigs and other organic materials from the canopy and bird nests. Species composition of herb layer in this habitat was quite different from that in control plot. Breeding site was dominated by Humulus japonicus, Persicaria fauriei, Persicaria perfoliata, Commelina communis, Chelidonium majus var. asiaticum, Digitaria sanguinalis, Bidens bipinnata. Dioscorea batatas which are indicator species of soil eutrophication. Similarity index of shrub and herb layer between the breeding site and control site was 0.36 and 0.07, respectively.

  • 안티모니 (Sb)를 기반으로 한 제2형 초격자 (Type II superlattice, T2SL)구조 적외선 검출기 연구는 2000년대 들어 Sb 계열의 화합물 반도체 성장 기술이 발전함에 따라 HgCdTe (MCT), InSb, 양자우물 적외선 검출기 (QWIP)를 대체할 수 있는 고성능의 양자형 적외선 검출 소재로 부상하였으며, 현재 전 세계적으로 활발한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 특히, 기존의 양자형 적외선 검출소자에 비해 전자의 유효질량이 상대적으로 커서 밴드 간의 투과전류가 줄어들 뿐만 아니라, 전자와 정공이 서로 다른 물질 영역에 분포하여 Auger 재결합률을 효과적으로 줄일 수 있어 상온 동작이 가능한 소재로 주목을 받고 있다. 또한, T2SL 구조는 초격자를 구성하는 물질의 두께나 조성 변화를 통한 밴드갭 변조가 용이하여 단파장에서 장파장 적외선에 이르는 광범위한 파장 대역에서 동작이 가능할 뿐만 아니라 구조적 변화를 통해 이중 대역을 동시에 검출 할 수 있는 차세대 적외선 열영상 소자로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 분자선 에피택시(MBE)법을 이용하여 300 주기의 InAs/GaSb (10/10 ML) 제2형 초격자 구조를 성장하여 적외선 검출소자를 제작하였다. 제2형 초격자 구조를 구성하는 물질계에 p-type dopant인 Be을 이용하여 각각 도핑 농도가 다른 시료를 성장하였다. 이때 p-type 도핑 농도는 각각 $1/5/10{\times}10^{15}cm^{-3}$로 변화를 주었다. 성장된 시료의 구조적 특성 분석을 위해 고분해능 X선 회절 (High resolution X-ray diffraction, HRXRD)법을 이용하였으며, 초격자 한 주기의 두께가 6.2~6.4 nm 로 설계된 구조와 동일하게 성장됨을 확인 하였으며, 1차 위성피크의 반치폭은 30~80 arcsec로 우수한 결정성을 가짐을 확인하였다. 적외선 검출을 위한 $410{\times}410{\mu}m^2$ 크기의 단위 소자 공정을 진행하였으며 이때 적외선의 전면 입사를 위해 소자 위에 $300{\mu}m$의 윈도우 창을 제작하였다. 단위 소자의 측벽에는 표면 누설 전류가 흐르는데 이를 방지하기 위해서 표면보호막을 증착하였다. 적외선 검출 소자의 전기적 특성 평가를 위해 각각의 시료의 암전류 (dark current)와 파장별 반응 (spectral response)을 온도별로 측정하여 비교 및 분석하였다.

Microstructures and Electrochemical Properties of Si-M (M : Cr, Ni) as Alloy Anode for Li Secondary Batteries (리튬이차전지용 Si-M (M : Cr, Ni) 합금 음극의 미세구조와 전기화학적 특성)

  • To compare the microstructure and electrochemical properties between two binary alloys (Cr-Si, Ni-Si), two composition of binary alloys with the same capacity were selected using phase-diagram and prepared by matrix-stabilization method to suppress the volume expansion of Si by inactive-matrix. Master alloys were made by Arc-melting followed by fine structured ribbon sample preparation by Rapid Solidification Process (RSP, Melt-spinning method) under the same conditions. Also powder samples were produced by wet grinding for X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and electrochemical measurements. As predicted from the phase diagram, only active-Si and inactive-matrix ($CrSi_2$, $NiSi_2$) were detected. The results of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy - Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (TEM-EDS) show that Cr-Si alloy has finer microstructure than Ni-Si alloy, which was also predictable through phase diagram. The electrochemical properties related to microstructure were evaluated by coin type full- and half-cells. Separately, self-designed test-cells were used to measure the volume expansion of Si during reaction. Volume expansion of Cr-Si alloy electrode with finer microstructure was suppressed significantly and improved in cycle capability, in comparison Ni-Si alloy with coarse microstructure. From these, we could infer the correlation of microstructure, volume expansion and electrochemical degradation and these properties might be predicted by phase diagram.

Quality Analysis of Fly Ash Through Correlation between Density by Hydrometer and Test Report (Hydrometer법을 이용한 밀도 측정값과 시험 성적서간 상관분석을 통한 플라이애시의 품질특성 분석)

  • To evaluate the reliability of fly ash quality supplied to ready-mixed concrete plant using mass cylinder and hydrometer, in this research, the correlationship between the fly ash properties provided from certification and density measurement with suspension was evaluated. As a result, the reliability of the certification, except fineness and loss on ignition, all properties had a discord. Additionally, in the case of density, fineness, and L.O.I, the relation with the density measured using hydrometer showed high correlation, especially fineness was strongly related with the density measured using hydrometer. Furthermore, according to the comparative analysis with previous research, the fly ash used in this research was similar measurement with raw powder without any refining process, it is considered that the constant error of blaine test or using raw ash sample as a fly ash. In current standard regarding fly ash, the fineness range of class 2 can be changed from $3,000-4,500cm^2/g$ to $3,500-4,500cm^2/g$ for improved quality of fly ash in fineness aspect.

Study on the Melting Point Depression of Tin Nanoparticles Manufactured by Modified Evaporation Method (수정된 증발법을 이용하여 제작된 주석 나노입자의 녹는점 강하에 관한 연구)

  • In the present study, the melting temperature depression of Sn nanoparticles manufactured using the modified evaporation method was investigated. For this purpose, a modified evaporation method with mass productivity was developed. Using the manufacturing process, Sn nanoparticles of 10 nm size was manufactured in benzyl alcohol solution to prevent oxidation. To examine the morphology and size distribution of the nanonoparticles, a transmission electron microscope was used. The melting temperature of the Sn nanoparticles was measured using a Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) which can calculate the endothermic energy during the phase changing process and an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) used for observing the manufactured Sn nanoparticle compound. The melting temperature of the Sn nanoparticles was observed to be $129^{\circ}C$, which is $44^{\circ}C$ lower than that of the bulk material. Finally, the melting temperature was compared with the Gibbs Thomson and Lai's equations, which can predict the melting temperature according to the particle size. Based on the experimental results, the melting temperature of the Sn nanoparticles was found to match well with those recommended by the Lai's equation.

Photo-Electrochemical Hydrogen Production Over P- and B- Incorporated $TiO_2$ Nanometer Sized Photo-Catalysts (P와 B 이온이 함유된 나노 티타니아 광촉매의 광 전기화학적 수소 제조 성능)

  • For effectively photochemical hydrogen production, P (negative semiconductor) and B (positive semiconductor) ions (0.1, 0.2, 0.5, and 1.0 mol%) incorporated $TiO_2$ (P- and B-$TiO_2$) nanometer sized particles were prepared using a solvothermal method as a photocatalyst. The characteristics of the synthesized P- and B-$TiO_2$ photocatalysts were analyzed by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), W-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), and Photoluminescence spectra (PL). The evolution of $H_2$ from methanol/water (1:1) photo-splitting over B-$TiO_2$ photocatalysts was enhanced compared to those over pure $TiO_2$ and P-$TiO_2$ photocatalysts; 0.42 mL of $H_2$ gas was evolved after 10 h when 0.5 g of a 1.0 mol% B-$TiO_2$ catalyst was used.

Seasonal Variations of Direct Solar Irradiance with Ground and Air Atmospheric Data Fusion for Peninsular Type Coastal Area (지상 및 고도별 대기측정 자료 융합을 이용한 반도형 해안지역의 직달일사량 계절 변화 연구)

  • Localized solar irradiance is normally derived from atmospheric transmission influenced by atmospheric composition and conditions of the target area. Specially, for the area with complex coastal lines such as Taean gun, the accurate estimation of solar irradiance requires for in depth analysis of atmospheric transmission characteristics based on the localized vertical profiles of the key atmospheric parameters. Using MODTRAN (MODerate resolution atmospheric TRANsmission) 6, we report a computational study on clear day atmospheric transmission and direct solar irradiance estimation of Taean gun using the data collected from 3 ground stations and radiosonde measurement over 93 clear days in 2018. The MODTRAN estimated direct solar irradiance is compared with the measurement. The results show that the normalized residual mean (NRM) is 0.28 for the temperature based MODTRAN atmospheric model and 0.32 for the pressure based MODTRAN atmospheric model. These values are larger than 0.1~0.2 of the other study and we understand that such difference represents the local atmospheric characteristics of Taean gun. The results also show that NRM tends to increase noticeably in summer as the temperature increases. Such findings from this study can be very useful for estimation and prediction of the atmospheric condition of the local area with complex coastal lines.

Analysis of Hydraulic Characteristics According to Operation of Movable Weir (가동보 운영에 따른 수리학적 특성 분석)

  • 현재 국내에서 시행되고 있는 '4대강 살리기 사업'은 하천에서 발생하는 홍수 및 가뭄재해방지를 위한 다양한 공학적 노력을 시도하고 있다. 특히 안정적인 수위 및 유량확보와 홍수방지를 위한 보(weir)가 4대강 유역에 16개 설치되고 있다. 이러한 보 구간에는 고정보와 가동보가 복합적으로 설치되고 있으며 가동보는 그 형상과 운영방식에 따라 다양한 설계방안이 적용되었다. '4대강 살리기 사업' 중 낙동강 23공구의 강정보 공사 구간에는 원호형태의 측면 형상을 갖는 라이징 섹터게이트(Rising sector gate)가 적용되었다. 라이징 섹터게이트는 구조물의 높이가 낮고 수문의 개폐장치가 수문피어 구조물 내에 설치되어 경관이 우수하며, 구조가 간단하여 비체와 수류의 안정성이 뛰어나기 때문에 4개의 공사구간에 적용되었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 강정보의 가동보 구간 2문 중 1문을 1/100 축척으로 제작하여 가변경사 개수로에 설치하고, 홍수 빈도별 상류 유량 조건과 하류단 수위조건으로 케이스를 정하여 실험을 수행하였다. 본 실험에서 사용한 개수로 장치는 너비 0.6 m, 높이 0.8 m, 그리고 길이 15.0 m(측정가능 구간, 헤드탱크와 테일게이트 부제외)의 개수로 실험장치이다. 측부는 모두 강화유리로 되어 육안관찰 및 계측 시 용이하게 제작되었으며, 순환식 유량 공급장치를 구축하여 수로의 하부에 설치된 유량탱크로부터 계속적으로 순환하도록 설계되었다. 또한 수로 하단으로부터 상단방향으로 약 33 m 지점에 전동 유압식 Jack screw 2기가 설치되어 경사도를 조절할 수 있도록 제작되었다. 유량조절용 판넬의 제어기판에는 디지털 경사계가 설치되어 있기 때문에 보다 정확한 경사도의 조절이 가능하다. 보 모형의 총연장은 53 cm이며 폭은 45 cm이다. 섹터게이트의 게이트부분은 직경 15 cm로 설계하였다. 문주부분을 포함한 모든 모형은 아크릴로 제작하며 레이저의 주사를 방해하지 않으며 투과율을 최대로 할 수 있도록 고강도의 아크릴을 가장 얇게 하여 중공형태를 채택하였다. 실험조건은 우선 보의 운영방안에 따라 게이트의 4가지 개방도를 설정하였고, 특히 평수위조건에서는 보의 상류부에 퇴적된 퇴적물의 세척을 위한 flushing 운영개방도 포함되어 있다. 홍수시에 대한 유량조건은 2년 빈도에 해당하는 유량을 수문의 비율과 상사법칙에 따라 설정하였으며 하류단 수위조건도 동일한 조건에 대한 값을 채택하여 적용하였다. 유동장의 해석을 위해서는 비접촉식 계측방법인 PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) 시스템을 채택하여 2차원(x-z 방향) laser sheet를 생성하고 주입된 particle에서 반사된 변위(displacement) 정보를 상호상관(cross-correlation)기법으로 유동장을 계산하였다. 또한 수리모형과 동일한 지형격자를 구축하여 3차원 CFD 프로그램인 FLOW-3D로 계산하여 결과를 비교하였다. 특히 flushing 운영방안에 대한 게이트부의 개방도를 세가지(30, 45, $60^{\circ}$)로 구분하여 모의하였고, 적절한 개방도를 제안하고자 하였다. 실험결과는 우선 4가지 운영방안에 대한 가동보 주변에서의 유속장을 파악하였고, 최대유속의 발생위치의 변화를 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 이에 따른 보의 바닥에서 최대유속이 발생할 경우, 하상보호공 위치와 거리 등에 대해서 분석하였다. 이를 통해 가동보 운영에 따른 다양한 유속구조를 파악할 수 있게 되며 구조적 안정성 확보를 위한 검증자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 예상된다. 향후, 가동보 운영방안 중 수세효과(flushing effect)에 대한 효과분석을 위해 게이트부 상류구간에 적절한 입경과 비중의 퇴적물질을 설치하는 연구와 상류부에서의 유입유사농도 및 시간변화에 따른 퇴적에 관한 연구를 수행할 계획이다.
