  • This paper aims at investigating the reinvigoration strategy for main coastal passenger service line in Tongyoung. SWOT analysis and BCG matrix are used to sort out the their competitiveness as environmental market position. As a result of environmental situation, Tongyoung area has a positive internal and external competitive advantage, with strong land and sea tourist attractions. But a small-scale coastal passenger service firms and depression of local economy are represented as the barrier of attracting more passenger. The results of BCG matrix analysis are individual firms managing coastal passenger service in Tongyoung have a stable market position against Korean coastal passenger market in terms of market growth rate and share.

  • The underwater background noise measured in Geoje and Tongyoung diving fishing ground from May to December, 2000 and analyzed to get optimum carrier frequency and transmitter power level for underwater wireless telephone design. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. At the Geoje and Tongyoung diving fishing ground, the lowest ambient noise band was 25~30kHz with 57dB and 52dB re 1$\mu$Pa, respectively. 2. At the Geoje and Tongyoung diving fishing ground, the lowest noise band during fishing activity was 67dB and 62dB re 1$\mu$Pa, respectively. 3. At the Geoje diving fishing ground, the noise of water jetter which is a digging machine for subbottom shells was 102dB re 1$\mu$Pa. 4. Considering the design parameters of underwater wireless telephone, it is found that the optimum carrier frequency band is around 30kHz and the transmitter source level should be at least 131dB re 1$\mu$Pa for 500m range telephone.

  • The flora of the Hallyo-Haesang National Park were surveyed from May to September, 1998. The flora of this park were listed as 117 families, 296 genus, 373 species, 53 varieties, 7 forms and 3 hybrid in the Namhae, 73 families, 129 genus, 153 species, 16 varieties and 2 forms in Karasan(Mountain), 97 families, 280 genus, 475 species, 53 varieties, 5 forms and 1 hybrid in the Tongyong. Construction of road, recreational facilities and ornamental farms were considered as the major causes of destruction of vegetation conservational measures must be applied urgently to conserve the distinct vegetation and flora of this areas.

  • To study the actual vegetation and vegetation structure of Tongyoung district and Yokjido (Island) in Hallyo-Haesang National Park, thirty seven plots were surveyed in July,1998. The vegetation structure of the surveyed plots were dissimilar in virtue of geographical isolation and artificial disturbance. The actual vegetation were classified into five group: Pinus thunbergii forest, P. thunbergii-P. densiflora- deciduous broad-leaved forest, deciduous broad-leaved forest, P. thunbergii-P. densiflora-evergreen broad-leaved forest, evergreen broad-leaved forest. P. thunbergii forest was a major vegetaion type of the surveyed area and evergreen broad-leaved forests were distributed at Ch'ubongdo, Yongch'odo, Pijindo, Yokjido and Youjado as a small patch. Successional sere shall be assumed from Pinus thunbergii, Pinus densiflora, and deciduous broad leaved trees to Neolitsea sericea, Cinnamomum japonicum and Persea thunbergii via Castanopsis sieboldii.

  • This paper explores the inlaying technique of Geum-Cheol Kim, a joiner has made the traditional Korean furniture mostly popular in Tong Yeong in Gyeongnam province in Korea. He has adopted the technique in creating his furniture since he started learning and working the furniture making at sixteen years old. So he is only the cabinet maker with the technique in Tong Yeong GN. Samhojang, Seongtaenoemun, Gwuinoemun, and so on are the techniques inlaid in the furniture like Jang, Nong, Beoseonjang, Mungap and so on. The Tong-yeong techniques are even more difficult and take longer time than other ordinary inlays to be created, but they are very secured and last longer. And the techniques are very beautiful but today they are not well-known and used in Korea. Hence, the succession and preservation of the techniques are needed from the joiner to younger generation. Futhermore, the development on the easier and shorter process to create them is needed to be popular throughout Korea in order to be useful for contemporary furniture.

  • The total oil proportion of bay scallop by areas during the growing period was the highest (2.8%) at Tongyong in August, then it decreased to 1.88% in September and 0.62% in October, and it was the lowest (0.22%) in November. The total oil proportion of phytoplankton by areas was the highest at Tongyong, where it was decreased from 5.02% in August and 3.29% in September to 2.48% in October and 1.66% in November. For the composition of fatty acid of bay scallop by areas and seasons during the growing period, the major composition was 16:0 and 18:0 as saturated fatty acid, and 16:1n-7, 18:1n-7, 20:1n-9, ARA (20:4n-6), EPA (20:5n-3), DHA (22:6n-3) as monoenic acid. TMTD (4,8,12-trimethyltridecanoic acid) was detected in a little amount as special fatty acid. For the composition of fatty acid of prey by areas during the growing period of bay scallop from August to November 1998, n-3HUFA, Omega-3 highly unsaturated fatty acid, in August was 47.11% at Namhae in slowest growth, while it was distinctively low with 34.26% at Tongyong and 14.06% at Nammeon.

Analysis of the factors of the failure of the North Korean Army's Great Bypass Maneuver to Honam during the Korea War from an indirect approach strategy: Focusing on the Naval and Marine Corps' Tongyeong Amphibious Operation to Stop the "Dislocation" (간접접근전략으로 본 6·25전쟁기 북한군의 호남 방면 대우회기동 실패 요인 분석 -'교란'을 저지한 해군·해병대의 통영상륙작전을 중심으로-)

  • The North Korean military's maneuver toward Honam was the fastest maneuver the North Korean army had demonstrated during the Korean War, and it was a threatening attack that forced the Korean and Allied forces to fully adjust the defenses of the Nakdong River. However, when this study analyzed the North Korean military's maneuver toward Honam in terms of indirect approach strategy, there were a number of factors that inevitably led to its failure. In terms of implementing the indirect approach strategy, the North Korean military cited a number of failure factors, including the dispersion of combat forces, the inflexibility of changing the line of operation, the maneuvering of ground forces, and the lack of psychological distaction. However, the North Koreans were preparing for a final "surprise attack," in which the 7th Division, which was following the North Korean 6th Division, took another diversion and attempted to attack in the direction of Tongyeong. With this, the North Koreans intended to break through the Nakdong River defenses and head for Pusan. However, the North Korean attack was ultimately thwarted by the Korean Navy and Marine Corps' Tongyeong Amphibious Operation. With a swift maneuver using the sea as a maneuvering space, the Navy and Marine Corps occupied key points first, creating an advantageous situation and fending off an attack by the North Korean 7th Division. The Navy and Marine Corps' Tongyeong Amphibious Operation finally thwarted the North Korean military's maneuver toward Honam, thus maintaining the Nakdong River defenses.
