  • For the diversity of energy supply system and the improvement in the habitants' living environments of the islands, it is possible and necessary to use the natural energy as resources of the electric power generation system. In this study, the characteristics of wind and solar radiation on 4 islands offshore Namhae-Tongyoung of Korea were measured for one year from November 2010 to October 2011 and analyzed in relation to energy resources survey. As a result of measurement and analysis, the respective wind rose diagrams of 4 islands were made, and showed that the frequencies of wind directions were quite different from among the islands. The Rayleigh probability distribution of wind velocity showed that the wind speeds of KR and SS were mainly 2~5m/s, and the respective quantities of electric power generation of 4 islands were shown to be different. The variation of solar radiations and potential quantity of those uses were measured to be similar to each other among 4 islands.

  • We investigated the distribution of organic matter and trace metals in surface sediment from Tonyeong coast. To determine the status of trace metal pollution, we also conducted an ecological risk assessment. Relatively high concentration of TN (total nitrogen), TOC (total organic carbon), and AVS (acid volatile sulfide) was found in surface sediment located in the narrow channel (site 35-38). Spatial distribution of Cd, Cr, Ni, Co, Hg, and Zn in surface sediment was similar and high Cu concentrations were found in narrow channel. The assessment of heavy metal pollution was derived using the Enrichment factors (EF). The enrichment factor indicated that Cd was no enrichment (EF<1), Pb, Cr, Ni, Co, Zn, and Hg were minor enrichment (1

  • Korean traditional mask play was done at outdoor to let spectators join the play and take mask at performance and to have disadvantage of poor transfer of dialog to the spectators. Performers transferred dialog directly and/or indirectly by using visual costume, and Tongyeong Ogwangdae with many dialogue expressions concerning the costume made use of proper intention to help spectators understand. In this study, the author watched performance of Tongyeong Ogwangdae to collect and investigate not only image material but also photograph material and to classify intention of the costume into three: First, contents of the dialog were intended to make shape. The costumes of Hongbaek Yangban, Meoktal Yangban and Jorijung of the 2nd section gave spectators contents of the play, and the costume of Halmi Yangban of Nochangtal of the 4th section described dialog of Halmi. Second, dialog had connotative metaphor. The costume of Yeongno of Yeongnotal of the 3rd section symbolized an unfinished dragon, while that of Halmi of Nongchangtal of the 4th section did sacred of Halmi. And, Nongchagtal Ai's costume of the 4th section prayed for value of Ai, richness of the life and fecundity. Third, conflict between characters was intended by indirect media. The costume of Maltukee of metaphor mask of the 2nd section became base of the assertion supporting that Maltukee had better birth history than Yangban had, and the costume of Yeongnoyangban of Yeongnotal of the 3rd section produced conflict at disclosure of identity.

  • In order to estimate a better methodological factor to understand phytoplankton ecology between abundance and bio-volume of phytoplankton, each 1,160 phytoplankton data, including abundance, classification and chlorophyll $a$ concentration were collected in Korean coastal waters of Incheon (Yellow sea), Tongyeong (South sea), and Ulsan (East sea). Based on these data, phytoplankton bio-volume can be calculated through a geometric model. The correlation coefficient between abundance and chlorophyll $a$ concentration was higher than the coefficient between biovolume and chlorophyll $a$ concentration, because a small size phytoplankton has relatively dense chlorophyll contents compared with the proportion of chlorophyll in a large size phytoplankton. Thus, the interpretation using abundance to understand phytoplankton ecology in Korean coastal waters may be more effective than that using bio-volume.

  • In this study, an assessment method that considers the effects of directional wind speeds on buildings or structures that are sensitive to wind is proposed. Also, the basic characteristics of directional wind speeds were assessed by means of local annual maximum wind speeds. From the method of assessment of the characteristics of directional wind speeds, their goodness-of-fit was verified by applying extreme value distribution to the data on annual maximum wind speeds from the Korea Meteorological Administration. To consider the characteristics of directional winds, an assessment method is suggested that divides the directional wind pattern of each directional wind speed into four groups. From the study results, all the data on directional wind speeds based on the Gumbel distribution were examined using data on annual maximum wind speeds from Seoul, Tongyung, and Incheon. Since the Gumbel model of all directional wind speeds has independent probability characteristics that govern the 4 directional wind pattern groups, the application ratio proposed was based on the assessment of these four groups. According to the goodness-of-fit of the data on the annual maximum wind speeds based on the Gumbel distribution, new application ratios were proposed that consider the directional wind speeds in Seoul, Tongyung, and Incheon.

  • The effects of night-lights on feeding by the black rockfish Sebastes inermis in the cage of the Tongyeong marine ranching area were investigated by analyzing the stomach contents of 200 individuals from July 2004 to August 2004. In night-lights groups, black rockfish consumed mainly copepoda, amphipoda and polychaeta; also those in control area fed on copepods, amphipods and polychaets. Copepods (57%) and amphipods (32%) were the major prey organisms for all study period in night-lights. While, major prey items in control area were copepods (88%). Growth of the black rockfish reared in night-lights conditions were significantly higher than that of those in control area.

  • Effect of night-lights on zooplankton attraction has been studied in Tongyeong marine ranch area during the period from 12 July to 30 August, 2004. Each sampling has been carried out to collect zooplankton from both control area in natural waters experiment area of night-lights waters at night. A total of 43 taxa of zooplankton occurred during the study. Copepods showed the prosperity in species number with 15 species. Acartia erythraed and Copepodite occurred abundantly in night-lights waters. Zooplankton abundance appeared to increase in night-lights mainly due to the gathering of copepods and larvae through the study period. Average $3\sim166$ times of zooplankton abundance was recorded in night-lights when compared with that in control area of natural waters due to the gathering of copepods and larvae. Cluster analysis, based on monthly abundance data of the 13 most frequent species, showed that the species were seperated into two different groups: the photo-positive group and the photo-negative group.

  • This project analyzes distinct qualities of pearl cultured in Tongyeong by physical, chemical and optical test. The result is to provide scientific data for the value of pearl from Korean seawater. It divides one year pearl, which is used as a sample in the project, into white, natural blue and yellow gold colors, and then it has been divided into A, B and C based on the quality of the last results. A chemical experiment demonstrates that the higher quality has lower protein content of less than 10%. In another test called heavy metal content test, there is no big difference among classes. In the characterization of spectroscopy, it shows 280 nm peak indicated the conchiolin. It is clear that 407 nm, 430 nm and 460 nm peak are White group that are not in processed condition.

  • Age and growth of black rockfish, Sebastes schlegeli sampled from the Tongyeong marine ranching area in Korea waters were determined from 1,173 otoliths from July, 2001 to May, 2004. Examination of outer margins of the otolith showed that the opaque zone was formed once a year. Marginal increment of the otolith formed annual ring from July. The von Bertalanffy growth curve had the growth parameters estimated from non-linear regression were $L_t=48.45(1-e^{-0.2139(t+0.4313)})$, $W_t=1,837.93(1-e^{-0.2139(t+0.4313)})^{3.02}$ 3.02 for females and, $L_t=49.32(1-e^{-0.1775(t+0.7403)})$, $W_t=1,887.83(1-e^{-0.1775(t+0.7403)})^3$ for males, where t is age (year) and Lt is body length (mm) at age t. Growth at the age of male and female shows significant difference (p<0.01).
