Soil Physiochemical Properties in Leaf-yellowing Black Locust (Robinia Pseudo-acacia L.) Stands (아까시나무 황화현상 발생임분의 토양 이화학적 특성)

  • In 1970's Black locust(Robinia pseudoacacia) had been widely planted Korea as an important forest greening species for erosion control afforestation. Since 2000, however, the tree's leaf-yellowing symptom has often been observed at a limited region and then spreaded out over the country in 2006. This study was conducted to study soil physiochemical properties of black locust stands with and without the leaf-yellowing symptom in Osan, Gyeonggi province. Most of soils in sampling sites were mostly slightly eroded, dry, and moderately dry. Available soil depth(16cm) and total soil depth(26cm) in leaf-yellowing (LY) site were significantly lower than in non leaf-yellowing (Non-LY) site's soil depths which were 30cm and 56cm, respectively. And solid phase proportion and bulk density in soils were lower in LY site than in non-LY site soils, while soil liquid phase proportion was also low. It could reflect that LY site soils might have a lower air and moisture movement in the rhizosphere of black locust stand compared with non-LY site soils. Soil acidity in both sites was very strong acid, soil pH (4.42) of LY site was slightly lower than non-LY site's (pH 4.54). Content of available phosphorous, exchangeable $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ and percent base saturation were less than LY site. These results indicated that soil physiochemical condition in LY site, more deteriorated than non-LY site, should adversely affect the retention and supply capacity of soil nutrients and moisture. Therefore the black locust may be more sensitive to other environmental stresses.

수영강 일대 하상퇴적물의 PAHs 오염특성

  • 회동저수지를 중심으로 수영강 일대 하상퇴적물에 대한 PAHs(Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) 오염특성 연구가 진행되었다. 하상퇴적물의 화학분석결과, 16 EPA PAHs 중 naphthalene 등 총 15개 성분이 검출되었으며, benzo(a)anthracene과 chrysene의 검출빈도가 가장 높고, 총 PAHs는 최대 7,116 ppb가 검출되었다. 한편 퇴적물 내 PAHs의 심도별 함량 변화는, 대체로 하부 시료에 비해 상부 시료에 PAHs 함량이 높게 나타나며, 특히 상부의 점토질 토양과 하부의 현지 토양이 함께 산출되는 시료의 경우, 하부 현지 토양에서의 PAHs 함량에 비해 상부 점토질 토양에서의 PAHs 함량이 높으며, 이는 PAHs가 수영강 으로부터 유입되어 주로 상부 점토질 퇴적물에 축적된 결과로 판단된다. PAHs의 기원은 전반적으로 수영강 상류지역에서는 연소 기원을 보이며, 수영강 하류에서는 교량 및 도심지역에서의 차량통행과 관련이 있는 석유류의 특징을 나타내며, 회동저수지의 경우 석유류와 연소 기원의 특징을 복합적으로 보여주고 있다.

Effect of the Soil Physicochemistry Property and Plant Growth and Components of Chinese Cabbage after Application Organic Farming Materials (유기농 자재의 시용이 토양의 이화학적 특성과 배추의 생육 및 체내성분에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was focused on finding out the potential problems in organic farming system, which is recently emphasized on the produce of horticultural crops due to the serious environmental deterioration. Thus, in this study, the effect of the application of organic farming materials in soil on plant growth and components of chinese cabbage and the soil Physicochemistry property were compared with conventional culture. The results were summarized as follows : 1. The effect of soil chemical properties after application of organic farming materials, The amounts of pH and O.,M. in N, P, K treated plot were few of change, To the contray, fermentation compost and microorganisms fermentation compost treated plot were some increase, Amount of P$_2$O$_{5}$ , Ca and increase in comparison with the N, P, K treated plot, Specially chicken manure+ microorganisms fermentation compost treated plot was the highest. 2. Change of soil microbial after application of organic farming materials, The number of bacteria and actinomycetes in N, P, K treated plot were appeared definite direction, to the fermentation compost and microorganisms fermentation compost treated plot showed the increased tendency, specially, chicken manure+ microorganisms fermentation compost treated plot was the highest, 3. The growth characteristic of chinese cabbage after application of organic farming materials was superior in order of chemical fertilizers plot> microorganisms fermentation compost plot> fermentation compost plot. It shows the NO$_3$$^{[-10]}$ accumulation in chinese cabbage was higher in the outer leaves than in the inner leavess. It was some lower in the microorganisms fermentation compost plot, it was the highest at chemical fertilizers plot , all inner and outer leaves.

Effects of Soil Environment on Symbiotic Activities of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi(AMF) in the Coastal Reclaimed Lands (Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi(AMF)의 공생활성에 미치는 해안 간척지 토양환경의 영향)

  • The symbiotic activities of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) by analyzing spore density, symbiosis intensity and vertical distribution of AMF spores, phytomasses of higher plants such as Calamagrostis epigeios, Imperata cylindrica, Artemisia scoparia, Aster tripolium and Sonchus brachyotus, and physico-chemical properties of soil were determined in the rhizospheres of higher plants in abandoned two coastal reclaimed lands, which were constructed in 12 and 30 years ago, respectively. Vertical distribution of the AMF spores in the rhizospheres of higher plants was restricted within 20 cm depth from soil surface, which would be closely related with vertical distribution of root system, water table and soil aeration. Of vertical distribution of soil properties, W.C., A-P and K concentrations were increased as soil depth was lowered. In the coastal reclaimed lands, symbiotic activities of the AMF such as spore density and symbiotic intensity, were conspicuously stimulated by the increase of soil pH value, organic matter and total nitrogen concentrations, but inhibited by the increase of moisture, available phosphorus and sodium concentrations in the rhizosphere soil. Phosphorus absorption by higher plants growing in the reclaimed lands increased by the rise of symbiotic activities of AMF. Since symbiotic activities of AMF were stimulated with decreasing soil phosphorus concentrations, higher plants associated with AMF absorbed a large amount of phosphorus from the soil is low phosphorus concentrations.

호산성 방선균과 내중성 방선균

  • Waksman과 Heinrich(1943)에 의해 Streptomyces속이 기술되고 actinomycin, streptomycin등의 많은 항생물질이 발견되면서 방선균(actinomycetes)은 산업적으로 중요한 미생물이 되어 왔으며, 근래에는 항생물질 뿐만 아니라 효소, 효소저해제, 면역조절물질 등 소위 생리활성물질(bioactive compound)의 생산균으로서 주목을 받고 있다. 그러나 지금까지 대부분의 스크리닝이나 연구의 대상은 주로 중성 pH에서 잘 자라는 호중성 방선균(neutrophilic actionmycetes)이었지만 산성이나 알칼리성 토양, 고온, 고열, 고압 등과 같은 특수환경에서 분리된 균주나 희귀 방선균(rare actinomyces)에 대한 관심도 점점 높아지고 있다. 산성 토양에서 분리된 방선균에 관한 연구는 Jensen(1928)의 연구로부터 시작하였지만 Lonsdale(1985)이 침엽수림, 산성탄광 등에서 분리된 방선균을 수리분류할 때까지 활발하게 이루어지지 못하였다. 본 고에서는 호산성 방선균위 분포, 생리적 특성, 수리분류학적 연구, 화학적 분류(chemotaxonomy), 산업적 응용가능성 등을 살펴보고자 한다.

pH Dependence on EC in Soils Amended with Fertilizer and Organic Materials and in Soil of Plastic Film House (비료와 퇴구비를 처리한 토양과 시설재배지 토양에서 토양의 EC에 따른 pH변화)

  • Soil pH is an intensity factor of releasing hydrogen ion which is buffered by aluminum. It depends on pH buffer capacity of Al whether soil pH is governed directly by cations or not. A study was conducted to elucidate the pattern of pH changes by soil EC. Fertilizer and three kinds of organic manures composed of cow and pig and fowl dropping and one kind of rice straw compost were added independently into upland sandy loam soil. This treated soils and four upland soils under plastic film house having different levels in electrical conductivity (EC) were incubated with field capacity at $30^{\circ}C$ for 5, 10, 20 and 40 days. Soil pH varied directly as the cations contained in organic materials according to degree of saturating pH buffer capacity (pBC) of sandy loam soil. pH of the soils under plastic film house was lowered by soil EC due to governing by overplus of cation beyond pBC.

Changes of Soil Microbial Phospholipid Fatty Acids as Affected by Red Pepper Cultivation and Compost Amendment (고추재배지에서 퇴비시용에 따른 토양 미생물의 인지질지방산 변화)

  • Compost as a soil amendment is of importance in enhancing the soil chemical and microbial qualities; however, soil microbial community can vary depending on the composition, and the amount of compost applied to plant in the soil. Responses of soil microbial properties to compost applications with 0, 30, and 60 Mg $ha^{-1}$ were investigated in silt loam soils where red pepper(Capsicum annuum L.) was mainly cultivated in Yeongyang, Gyeongbuk, Korea. The analysis of phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) extracted from soil showed that compost amounts significantly increased PLFAs representing as bacteria, fungi, and VAM-fungi as well as the ratio of fungi/bacteria, and monounsaturated/saturated PLFAs. Increasing the amount of compost significantly increased Gram-/Gram+ PLFAs' ratio, but significantly decreased monounsaturated/saturated PLFAs' ratio. Therefore, this result shows that compost would vary to a limited extent the microbial community in red pepper field. However, increase in compost application would change the subgroup structure of microbial community only.

Sedimentary Characteristics and Chronology of Loess-paleosol Sequence in Jeongjang-ri, Geochang basin, Gyeongnam Province (경남 거창분지 정창리 뢰스-고토양 연속층의 퇴적물 특성과 편년)

  • The physical and chemical characteristics of loess-paleosol sequence in Jeongjang-ri, Geochang basin are examined using the magnetic susceptibility measurement, grain size analysis, OSL age dating, major, rare earth and trace elements analysis. The grain size characteristics of the loess-palesol sequence are obviously different from those of river sediment forming river terrace deposits and the Chinese Loess Plateau. The loess-paleosol sequence consisting of L1, L1LL1, L1S1, L1L2, S1 and L2 from top to bottom is estimated to MIS 2~MIS 6 and the river terrace to MIS 7. The compositions of major, rare earth and trace elements indicate that the sequence show more weathered characteristics than the Chinese Loess Plateau and originated from the Chinese Loess Plateau. These features are in harmony with the previous studies in Korea.

Soil Washing and Effluent Treatment for Contaminated Soil with Toxic Metals (유해원소로 오염된 토양 세척 및 세척수의 처리)

  • This study evaluated the optimal soil washing conditions for toxic metals considering the removal efficiency of toxic metals from contaminated soils as well as from soil washing effluents. In the contaminated soils, As was the major contaminant and extracted by sodium hydroxide solution better than by sulfuric acid. However, in the case of the treatment of soil washing effluents, sodium hydroxide was less effective extractant because soil organic matter extracted by sodium hydroxide prevented the solid-liquid phase separation and toxic metal removal. In the treatment of soil washing effluents with sulfuric acid, toxic metals in the effluents were mostly precipitated at the pH above 6.5. In addition, granular ferric oxide (GFO) as an adsorbent enhanced the removal of As and Pb indicating that toxic metals in the washing effluents can be removed almost completely by the use of combined adsorption-neutralization process. This study suggests that soil washing techniques for toxic metals should be optimized based on the physical and chemical properties of the contaminated soils, the nature of chemical extractant, and the removal efficiency and effectiveness of toxic metals from the soils as well as soil washing effluents.

제주 한림 지역 지하수 수질 및 질산성 질소의 공간적 분포

  • 이 연구는 제주도 한림 지역에서 지하수의 수질과 오염의 특성을 규명하고자 시행되었다. 2002년 8월과 11월에 걸쳐 34개 지점에서 지하수 시료를 채취하였고, 이를 분석하여 지하수의 수질을 유형별로 분류하였다. 연구지역은 주로 (Na,Mg)-HCO$_3$ 유형이 나타나며, 일부 지점에서는 Mg-(HCO$_3$+Cl), (Ca,Mg)-HCO$_3$ 유형 등이 나타난다. 이는 지하수의 유동 경로를 따라 서로 다른 수리지화학적 반응이 일어나며, 지표 오염물질의 유입 등이 지하수의 수질에 영향을 미치고 있음을 지시한다. 질산성 질소의 경우, 국내 먹는물 수질기준치 10 mg/L를 초과한 시료는 전체 시료의 8월 조사에서 약 32%, 11월 조사에서 약 27% 이었고, 공간적 분포 특성은 비교적 낮은 고도 150m 이하의 저지대에서 채취한 시료에서 주로 나타났다. 인위적인 오염물질의 유입 가능성이 있는 지점은 전체 시료의 79.4% 이었다.
