Evaluation and Application of Dynamic Soil Properties for SSI Analysis (지반-구조물 상호작용해석시 동적지반특성의 평가 및 적용)

  • This study examines the characteristics of soil behavior which includes many uncertainties in seismic design, evaluates the dynamic soil properties and studies the soil-structure interaction to generalize the applicability and economy of the available sites. An example analysis is performed for soil-structure system response assuming a containment structure built on site which includes soil layers using both elastic halfspace analysis and FEM analysis against the seismic loads from the actual design. This exercise is performed as a part of the safety analysis and economic assessment of the nuclear power plant built on soils. It includes the preparation of computer program capable of incorporating large nonlinearity in the analysis, resonable evaluation procedures to determine input soil data. Nonlinear FEM analysis of Seed and Idriss model is found suitable for the accurate analysis of dynamic response of soils. Linear FEM analysis using dynamic soil properties at strain level obtained by one-dimensional seismic response, and elastic half-space analysis using dynamic soil properties at strain level under static loads are recommended to evaluate the dynamic soil properties.

Effect of New Tunnelling on the Behaviour of Grouped Pile and Adjacent Tunnel (신설 터널굴착이 지중 군말뚝 및 인접 터널의 거동에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • The demand for underground infrastructures such as tunnels is expanding due to rapid urbanization. Tunnels in urban areas are usually constructed adjacent to structures supported by piles. Therefore, a proper understanding of pile-tunnel interaction due to tunnel excavation activities is vital. Thus, in this study, a numerical analysis is conducted to analyze pile settlements, ground surface settlements and shear deformations above an existing tunnel subject to the presence of an adjacent tunnelling, with vertical offsets, the number of piles and the pile spacing considered as variables in the analysis. The results show that the vertical offsets between the tunnel crown and the pile tip generatelarger settlement than the pile spacing. In addition, the vertical offset shows an inversely proportional relationship to the shear deformation due to new tunnelling.

Characteristics of Flexural Behaviors for Marine Concrete Members Using High-Durable Materials (고내구성 재료를 사용한 해양 콘크리트 부재의 휨 거동 특성)

  • The durability of marine concrete structure is severely degraded by corrosion due to penetration and diffusion of chloride. So, many researches have been performed to improve the durability in marine concrete structure. In this study, the concrete members mixed with the mineral admixtures(SF and BFS), the epoxy-coated steel, and corrosion inhibitors are prepared, and four-point bending test of specimens are performed to investigate the flexural behaviors and the applicability for marine concrete structure. From the test results, the mineral admixtures and inhibitors are useful for safety against the initial cracking and the bending resistance in specimens. When the durable material is used in specimen, the tensile stress of reinforcing rod was less variable in same bending span length, and the durable member showed a stable behavior. And it is evaluated that the crack spacing is not larger in specimen used the durable material.

  • BIM technology, based on 3D model of civil engineering structures, creates and manages information of the structures throughout four stages: Planning, design, construction, and maintenance. BIM is now used around the globe for improvement of the construction productivity. However, in order to expect the efficient engineering work, collaboration system between participants in a construction project is necessary. Therefore, in this paper BIM based CPLM (Construction project lifecycle management) system was designed and developed by analyzing the requirements of participants of a construction project. CPLM system offers an environment which enables the sharing and management of information according to the each stage of construction. CPLM is expected to aid cooperative decision-making during the overall construction process through the process innovation and the efficient data management.

Analysis of Mat Foundation by Considering Interface with Rock Mass (전면기초-하부암반 접촉면의 영향분석)

  • In recent days, the foundations of huge structures in general and mega foundations of grand bridges and high-rise buildings in particular are required in geotechnical engineering. This study described 3 dimensional behavior of mat foundation on soft rock based on a numerical study using 3D finite element method. A series of numerical analyses were performed for various soil conditions and mat rigidities under vertical loading. Based on the results of the parametric study, it is shown that the prediction of the settlement, cross sectional tensile stress and bending moments in the mat is overestimated in the analysis without considering interface behavior in comparison with the analysis considering interface between mat and rock mass.

Study on Rate Dependent Fracture Behavior of Structures; Application to Brittle Materials Using Molecular Dynamics (구조물의 속도 의존적 파괴 특성에 대한 연구; 입자동역학을 이용한 취성재료에의 적용)

  • The failure behavior of structures is changed under different loading rates, which might arise from the rate dependency of materials. This phenomenon has been focused in the engineering fields. However, the failure mechanism is not fully understood yet, so that it is hard to be implemented in numerical simulations. In this study, the numerical experiments to a brittle material are simulated by the Molecular Dynamics (MD) for understanding the rate dependent failure behavior. The material specimen with a notch is modeled for the compact tension test simulation. Lennard-Jones potential is used to describe the properties of a brittle material. Several dynamic failure features under 6 different loading rates are achieved from the numerical experiments, where remarkable characteristics such as crack roughness, crack recession/arrest, and crack branching are observed during the crack propagation. These observations are interpreted by the energy inflow-consumption rates. This study will provides insight about the dynamic failure mechanism under different loading rates. In addition, the applicability of the MD to the macroscopic mechanics is estimated by simulating the previous experimental research.

The Stochastic Finite Element Analysis and Reliability Analysis of the Cable Stayed Bridge Considered to Correlation of the Random Variable (확률변수의 상관성을 고려한 사장교의 확률유한요소해석 및 신뢰성해석)

  • The reliability analysis can be conducted more effectively by formulating the stochastic finite element method suitable for the reliability theory about the cable stayed bridge. After conducting the initial equilibrium analysis of the cable stayed bridge, the program which can conduct the linear and nonlinear stochastic finite element analysis using the perturbation method and the reliability analysis considered to the correlation of the random variable is developed. Using the results of this program about the cable stayed bridge, the characteristic of the node displacement, element force and cable tension according to the correlation of the random variable is investigated quantitatively. Also the reliability index and the failure probability are examined by the compounding the correlation of the random variable.

An Experimental Study on the Reinforcement Effect of Installed Micropile under Footing on Dense Sand (조밀한 모래지반의 기초하부에 설치된 마이크로파일 보강효과에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The micropile, which is a kind of the in-situ manufactured pile with small diameter of 100~300mm, is constructed by installing a steel bar or pipe and injecting grout into a borehole. The application fields of micropile are being gradually expanded in a limited space of down-town area, because the micropile has various advantages with low vibration and noise in method and compact size in machine, etc. Mostly, the micropile has been applied to secure the safety of structures, depending on the increment of bearing capacity and the restraint of displacement. The micropile is expected to be used in various fields due to its effectiveness and potentiality in the future. The model test, focused on the interaction between micropile and soil in this study, was carried out. The micropile is installed under footing(concept of "structure supporting"). With the test results and soil deformation analysis, the reinforcement effect(relating to bearing capacity and settlement) was analysed in a qualitative and quantitative manner, respectively. Consequently, it is hoped to demonstrate the improvement of an efficiency and application in the design and construction of micropile.

  • A Basic experimental study for the development of vibration-power generation system from the vibration energy of urban infrastructure, such as a railroad, highway, and bridges, was carried out to harvest electricity from moving vehicles. Starting with the proposal of vibration power generator which converts vibration energy to an electric power by using self-induction technology, the research explains the basic concept of self-induction technology and the dynamic characteristics of a ibration power generator. Also, in order to analyze the correlation of an electromotive force from vibration power generator which depends on external force and vibration speeds, many indoor experiments with various variables were achieved. Based on the experimental results, a vibration power generator system's ability were analyzed. With those results, basic data of vibration power generator system to acquire the maximum available power was confirmed.

Information Modeling of Railway Track using Information Iinkage of Railway Alignment and Alignment-based Objects (철도 선형중심의 객체 정보연계를 통한 철도 궤도부 정보모델 생성 방안)

  • As BIM has been widely used in the field of architecture, efforts to apply BIM to civil engineering structures are increasing rapidly. Since commercial BIM softwares are focused on building structure, it is difficult to apply to alignment-based civil infrastructures. In this study, we proposed a method to generate an information model that reflects cant by sharing information between alignment-centered modeling tools and BIM authoring tools to manage information of railway track. The railway track modeling process consists of classifying structures into continuous and non-continuous structures, creating continuous structures by alignment-centered modeling tools, and using the shared alignment information to generate information model of the non-continuous structures. Non-continuous structures were generated by an algorithm that calculates the position and rotation information of each structure based on discretized railway alignment and cant information transmitted to the BIM authoring tools. The availabilities of proposed method were studied by applying to the osong test-line. Using the test model, it was shown that the objects were identified, the properties were extracted, and the quantities of each structure were calculated.
