Power plant is a kind of basic industrial facility and might cause fatal industrial and human damage. In this study, the characteristics and effect of blast-induced vibration for tunnelling which underpass ○○ power plant in operation were evaluated. Previous blasting cases adjacent to industrial facilities were intensively reviewed, then allowable vibration criteria were suggested. 3 dimensional dynamic numerical analysis based on finite element method was performed to investigate particle velocity and resonance was examined by calculating the predominant frequencies. As a result, particle velocity at pump foundation which is nearest to the source was approached to the allowable criteria, therefore, the modified blasting pattern was newly suggested and confirmed the attenuation effect based on the test blasting. Consequently, appropriated decision-support procedure was established in case of adjacent blasting to industrial facilities.

An ultra-high strength prestressed prismatic beam of 100 MPa in compressive strength was developed by increasing the water-tightness of concrete by utilizing centrifugal molding processes without adding expensive admixtures. The centrifugal prismatic PSC beam developed as the superstructure of the avalanche tunnel was constructed on a rahmen bridge in a small local river. In this study, the centrifugal prismatic beam was compared and analyzed based on the results of measurements made through static load tests and the results of numerical analysis of the target structure. The common load-carrying capacity and safety of the rahmen bridge were evaluated. The static·dynamic load tests and finite element analysis results of this bridge were similar, and it was confirmed that the behavior of the centrifugal prismatic beam was well simulated. All centrifugally formed square beams that make up the composite rahmen bridge were evaluated to secure sufficient load carrying capacity under the design live load, and structural reliability was proven by ensuring safety.
The robustness of a numerical method means that its computational performance is maintained under various modeling conditions. New numerical methods or codes need to be assessed for robustness through benchmark testing. The TOUGH-FLAC modeling approach has been applied to various fields such as subsurface carbon dioxide storage, geological disposal of spent nuclear fuel, and geothermal development both domestically and internationally, and the modeling validity has been examined by comparing the results with experimental measurements and other numerical codes. In the present study, a benchmark test of the TOUGH-FLAC approach was performed based on a coupled thermal-hydro-mechanical behavior problem with an analytical solution. The analytical solution is related to the temperature, pore water pressure, and mechanical behavior of a fully saturated porous medium that is subjected to a point heat source. The robustness of the TOUGH-FLAC approach was evaluated by comparing the analytical solution with the results of numerical simulation. Additionally, the effects of thermal-hydro-mechanical coupling terms, fluid phase change, and timestep on the computation of coupled behavior were investigated.

Recently, due to adjacent excavation work such as new buildings and common tunnel expansion concentrated around the urban railway, deformation of the underground box and tunnel structure of the urban railway built underground has occurred, and as a result, repair and reinforcement work is frequently carried. In addition, the subway is responsible for large-scale transportation, so ensuring the safety and drivability of underground structures is very important. Accordingly, an automated measurement system is being introduced to manage the safety of underground box structures. However, there is no analysis of structural damage vulnerabilities caused by subsidence or uplift of underground box structures. In this study, we aim to analyze damage vulnerabilities for safety monitoring of underground box structures. In addition, we intend to analyze major core monitoring locations by modeling underground box structures through numerical analysis. Therefore, we would like to suggest sensor installation locations and damage vulnerable areas for safety monitoring of underground box structures in the future.
Within the framework of DECOVALEX-2019 Task D, full-scale engineered barriers experiment (FEBEX) at Grimsel Test Site was numerically simulated to investigate an applicability of implemented Barcelona basic model (BBM) into TOUGH2-MP/FLAC3D simulator, which was developed for the prediction of the coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical behavior of bentonite buffer. And the calculated heater power, temperature, relative humidity, total stress, saturation, water content and dry density were compared with in situ data monitored in the various sections. In general, the calculated heater power and temperature provided a fairly good agreement with experimental observations, however, the difference between power of heater #1 and that of heater #2 could not captured in the numerical analysis. It is necessary to consider lamprophyre with low thermal conductivity around heater #1 and non-simplified installation progresses of bentonite blocks in the tunnel for better modeling results. The evolutions and distributions of relative humidity were well reproduced, but hydraulic model needs to be modified because the re-saturation process was relatively fast near the heaters. In case of stress evolutions due to the thermal and hydraulic expansions, the computed stress was in good agreement with the data. But, the stress is slightly higher than the measured in situ data at the early stage of the operation, because gap between rock mass and bentonite blocks have not been considered in the numerical simulations. The calculated distribution of saturation, water content, and dry density along the radial distance showed good agreement with the observations after the first and final dismantling. The calculated dry density near the center of the FEBEX tunnel and heaters were overestimated compared with the observations. As a result, the saturation and water content were underestimated with the measurements. Therefore, numerical model of permeability is needed to modify for the production of better numerical results. It will be possible to produce the better analysis results and more realistically predict the coupled THM behavior in the bentonite blocks by performing the additional studies and modifying the numerical model based on the results of this study.

In recent years, frequent terror or military attacks by explosion or impact accidents have occurred. Examplary case of these attacks were World Trade Center collapse and US Department of Defense Pentagon attack on Sept. 11 of 2001. These attacks of the civil infrastructure have induced numerous casualties and property damage, which raised public concerns and anxiety of potential terrorist attacks. However, a existing design procedure for civil infrastructures do not consider a protective design for extreme loading scenario. Also, the extreme loading researches of prestressed concrete (PSC) member, which widely used for nuclear containment vessel, gas tank, bridges, and tunnel, are insufficient due to experimental limitations of loading characteristics. To protect concrete structures against extreme loading such as explosion and impact with high strain rate, understanding of the effect, characteristic, and propagation mechanism of extreme loadings on structures is needed. Therefore, in this paper, to evaluate the impact resistance capacity and its protective performance of bi-directional unbonded prestressed concrete member, impact tests were carried out on $1400mm{\times}1000mm{\times}300mm$ for reinforced concrete (RC), prestressed concrete without rebar (PS), prestressed concrete with rebar (PSR, general PSC) specimens. According to test site conditions, impact tests were performed with 14 kN impactor with drop height of 10 m, 5 m, 4 m for preliminary tests and 3.5 m for main tests. Also, in this study, the procedure, layout, and measurement system of impact tests were established. The impact resistance capacity was measured using crack patterns, damage rates, measuring value such as displacement, acceleration, and residual structural strength. The results can be used as basic research references for related research areas, which include protective design and impact numerical simulation under impact loading.
This study are carried out to an lab model tests to develop a construction method that solidifies high-water content cohesive soil by using filter type drain and vacuum pressure, and that stabilizes the ground by accelerating horizontal drain at incline or in tunnel. The calibration chamber was designed within length of 1.5m and height of 50cm, and a drainage hole for preconsolidation, a switchgear and a piezometer were installed at the bottom part of the chamber. Also, a settlement gage was installed at the top part so that it can measure the settlement by time. The calibration ground basis was made in a form of thin layer from kaolinite and bentonite in 9:1 ratio stirred at 130% water content condition. A filter type drain was installed at chamber center and a vacuum pressure of 0.8MPa was applied through a hose linked to the cap at the top part, then, the settlement was measured in every 1 hour interval. After experiment, the moisture contents were measured by position, then, verified the increase of solidity of the ground through a triaxial compression test on undisturbed profile. After 11 days from the effective date, it was observed that the settlement decreased by maximum 35mm and the water content ratio was reduced by 38% at most while the solidity of the ground increased by 5~8 times greater than before preconsolidation.
This case study which is to make 2-Dimension earth's crust structures clearly is about the great boring-hole blasting to provide ground vibration source of the reflected wave research on the Korean Peninsula earth's crust structures research. For this study we've done blasting twice-500 ㎏/charge per delay, 1,000 ㎏/charge per delay, and the specifications of blasting are the following - dia.: 300 ㎜, boring-depth : 100m, besides, we used the explosives and electric detonators which have sufficient detonating velocity and very excellent safety, capacity of detonating, accurate delay time. We charged explosives into steel pipe with bulk type to avoid dead pressure by ground water. And then we tested about pipe airtight and blasting to certificate which has no problem by using on this study. In the results, we succeeded each blasting in Seosan, Youngdong. For the Peak Sum Vector(PSV) around the blasting at the main points, its real measured PSV is higher 180 % than estimated PSV with USBM. In this study we can't to be analysis of vibration velocity, but to be key providing vibration source.
With regard to oversea mineral resources development, recent trend has been changed from a simple capital investment to a direct development of the resources. In relation to the stability of a slope in large open-pit coal mine, groundwater system was investigated and the validity of horizontal drainage hole was evaluated in Pasir coal mine, Indonesia. In this work, various field tests were carried out for a characterization of groundwater system, which included in-situ permeability measurement, tracer test and monitoring of groundwater levels. Especially, the influence of SM river on the characteristics of the groundwater flow system was mainly inspected. For the permeability measurement, Guelph permeameter was employed, and was found that sandstone was more permeable than mudstone and coal seam. From a comparison of lithological structure and the results of groundwater level monitoring, sandstone and thin coal seam with fractures were found to be a main channel for groundwater flow. In the results of tracer tests, the effect of SM river on the groundwater system depends on the geological structure of its base. To identify the effect of horizontal drainage holes, 2-D groundwater modeling was performed. Four different cases were tested, which are different from the length of drainage hole and the existence of pond on top of the slope. To enhance the drainage effect and slope stability, the drainage hole should be drilled to the depth of coal seam layer, which provides a main pathway of groundwater flow and embedded by sandstone. For this purpose, correct identification of surrounding geology should be preceded.

Depressurization occurs around underwater objects moving at high speeds. This causes cavitation nuclei to expand, resulting in cavitation. Cavitation is accompanied by an increase in noise and vibration at the site, particularly in the case of thrusters, and this has a detrimental ef ect on propulsion performance. Therefore, predicting cavitation is necessary. In this study, an analytical method for cavitation noise is developed and applied to an elliptic wing. First, computational fluid dynamics are performed to obtain information about the flow fields around the wing. Then, through the cavitation nuclei density function, number of cavitation nuclei is calculated using the initial radius of the nuclei and nuclei are randomly placed in the upstream with large pressure drop around the wing tip. Bubble dynamics are then applied to each nucleus using a Lagrangian approach for noise analysis and to determine cavitation behavior. Cavitation noise is identified as having the characteristics of broadband noise. Verification of analytical method is performed by comparing experimental results derived from the large cavitation tunnel at the Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering.
