A Study on Analysis for the Characteristics of Fault Zone at Mica-schist for Reinforcement of Large-Span Tunnel (대단면 터널 보강을 위한 운모편암 단층대 특성 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Faults in rock mass have strong influences on the behaviors of rock structure such as rock slope, tunnel and underground space. Thus, it is very important to analyse for the characteristics of fault rocks in design for tunnel. But, due to the limitation of geotechnical investigation in design stages, tunnel engineers have to carry out the face mapping and additional geological survey during tunnel excavation to find the distribution of faults and the engineering properties of faults for support and reinforcement design of tunnel. In this study, various geological survey and field tests were carried out to analyse the characteristics of the large thrust fault zone through the large sectional tunnel is constructed in mica-schist region. Also, the distribution of structural geology, the shape of thrust faults and the mechanical properties of fault rock were studied for the reasonable design of the reinforcement and support method for the highly fractured fault zone in the large-span tunnel.

Design of umbrella arch method based on adaptive SVM and reliability concept (Adaptive SVM 기법 및 신뢰성 개념을 적용한 강관다단공법의 설계기법 연구)

  • A reliability based design approach of the tunnel reinforcement with umbrella arch method was considered to better represent the uncertainties of the weak rock properties around the tunnel. For this, a machine learning approach called an Adaptive Support Vector Machine (ASVM) together with the limit equilibrium method were introduced to minimize the iteration numbers during the classification training of the tunnel stability. The proposed method was compared with the results of typical Monte Carlo simulations. It was concluded that the ASVM was very efficient and accurate to calculate the probability of failure having auxiliary umbrella arches and uncertain material properties of the tunnel. Future work will be concentrated on the refinement of the fast adaptation of the SVM classification so that the minimum number of numerical analyses can be used where the limit solution is not available.

A study on the establishment of stress limit values of management monitoring in tunnel (터널 유지관리계측의 응력 관리기준치 설정에 관한 연구)

  • This study analyzed a monitoring data, based on the initial limit values of monitoring in subway, of concrete lining stress and reinforcement stress. The data is obtained from 7 sections of the Seoul metropolitan subway line No 6, 7, and 9 in about 5 years. Also, a research is performed to set up the limit values of management monitoring, which will be applied to management monitoring in tunnel, through comparing the limit values of overseas management monitoring data and that of domestic management monitoring data. And the result obtained from comparison shows that the safety phase is 60% of allowable stress, the attention phase is 80% of allowable stress and the precision analysis phase is 100% of allowable stress. Also, we presented a method of management monitoring by the absolute value which can be easily applied in practical affairs.

Development and Application of Large-diameter Cut-hole Exploration System for Assessment of the Geological Condition beyond NATM Tunnel Face (NATM 터널의 굴착면 전방 지질 평가를 위한 대구경 심발공 탐사 시스템 개발 및 적용 사례)

  • Recently, the development of underground space has been accelerated with rapid urbanization, and it is significantly important for safe construction to accurately understand the geological conditions of the section when excavating rocks. In this paper, a boring alignment tracking and geological exploration system have been developed to identify the geological conditions beyond the excavation face by utilizing a MSP method that bores a large empty hole to reduce blast-induced vibration. The major advantage of the proposed exploration system is that we can obtain the ground condition of 50 m ahead of the excavation face through exploration along blast cut-holes drilled for the NATM tunnel construction. In addition, we introduce several case histories regarding the assessment of the geological conditions beyond the tunnel face by monitoring the inside of large empty holes using the proposed hole exploration system.

Behavior of Braced Rib Arch in Shallow Tunnel Excavated by Semi-Cut and Cover Method (반개착식으로 굴착한 천층터널에서 Braced Rib Arch의 거동)

  • Recently, the number of shallow tunnel construction increases to improve the structural safety and environment-friendliness. In Semi-Cut and Cover Method, ground is excavated to the crown arch level and braced rib arch is set to backfill before the excavation of lower face. Semi-Cut and Cover Method is proposed to solve the problems occurred by the conventional Cut and Cover Method, such as unstability, high-cost and the large cutting slope to be reinforced. In this paper, the behaviors of Braced Rib Arch in shallow tunnel excavated by semi-cut and cover method was studied. Model tests in 1:10 Scale were performed in real construction sequences. The distance between supports of rib arch was 1.8 m and the length of spacer was 1.0 m. the size of test pit was 4.0 m (width)$\times$3.3 m (length) 4.0 m (height) in dimension. Tests results show that backfill load acting on arch was smaller than that in the conventional Open-Cut Method.

Improvement of Domestic Design Criteria of Tunnel Maintenance Monitoring and Latest Technology Trend (터널 유지관리 계측의 국내설계기준 개선 및 최신 기술동향)

  • Though the maintenance monitoring of structurally weak parts of the tunnel structure in public service must be judged in connection with the monitoring during the construction period for analysis of the behavior of the ground and surrounding structures following the tunnel excavation for the effective management, the monitoring during the construction period and the maintenance monitoring are implemented separately on the basis of the periods of construction and maintenance, so the connectivity and systematic management of the related data are mostly inadequate. The improvement direction is suggested in this thesis, by analyzing the problems of tunnel monitoring in the domestic design criteria. And, it is anticipated that from now on the use of hi-tech sensors and wireless communications technology will proceed vigorously in the maintenance, so considering these situations, the development and application of the maintenance monitoring system and the revision of the domestic design criteria and specification are needed in the future.

Experimental study on the applicability of liquid air as the refrigerant in artificial ground freezing for subsea tunnels (해저터널을 위한 동결공법 냉매로서의 액화공기 적용성에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • In this paper, the liquid air was selected as the refrigerant in artificial ground freezing to be used for rapid ground freezing and to reduce the risk of suffocation and the applicability of liquid air was verified. In order to evaluate the stability of the liquid air, the oxygen concentration of mixtures with liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen was experimentally examined to meet the oxygen concentration criteria in the Occupational Safety and Health Act. In addition, the effects of the mixture ratio of liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen, pressure and flow rate change in the storage vessel on the oxygen concentration in the liquid air were investigated. As a result, the ratio of liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen 8: 2 was shown to meet the oxygen concentration standards. Pressure and flow rate change in the storage vessel did not have significant effects on the oxygen concentration in the liquid air.

  • CAES-G/T (Compressed Air Energy Storage - Gas Turbine) power generation is a likely option for the buffer facility stabilizing the fluctuation of the renewable powers, such as wind and solar powers. Considering the geological conditions, the underground CAES facility is most probable if the CAES-G/T generation is planed in Korea. In this kind of facility, a concrete plug is installed to seal the compressed air in the container, so that the selection of the shape and dimension of concrete plug could be a critical design factor. The stability evaluation of two types of plug was carried out by investigating the distribution of the factor of safety in the plugs and the distribution of contact pressure over the contact surface. The analysis result shows that the taper-shaped plug is more structurally stable than the wedge-shaped plug for the given geological condition. Possible separation of the rock-concrete interface around the spring line of the wedge-shaped plug is anticipated, which means the possible leakage of compressed air through the side wall and also means the poor mobilization of frictional resistance on that area.

Evaluation and Analysis on the Effects of Flood Damage Mitigation according to Installation on Deep Underground Rainwater Tunnel (대규모 터널형 빗물저류배수시설 설치에 따른 침수피해저감 효과 평가 및 분석)

  • 우리나라는 지리, 지형 및 기상특성으로 인해 집중호우와 태풍 등으로 자연재해 피해를 입고 있으며, 재해예방사업의 일환으로 1998년부터 자연재해위험개선지구 정비사업을 통해 자연재해로부터 침수, 유실, 붕괴위험 등 피해예방을 위해 노력하고 있다. 서울특별시는 도시화로 인한 우수침투 가능지역 감소와 유역경사 부족에 따른 충분한 관거 경사확보의 어려움으로 저지대에 노면수가 집중되면서 대규모 침수피해(2010. 09, 2011. 07)가 발생되었으며, 신월·신정지구 및 화곡2지구가 자연재해위험개선지구로 선정(2011. 04), 침수방지를 위한 대책으로 국내 최초의 대규모 터널형 빗물저류배수시설(신월빗물저류배수시설)을 준공(2020. 05)하였다. 본 연구에서는 신월빗물저류배수시설 설치에 따른 상습침수구역의 사업 전·후 침수피해 저감효과 검증을 위해 도시유출모형을 구축하여 서울시 방재성능목표 확보여부를 판단하고자 하였다. 기존 설계 당시 서울시 방재성능목표(30년 빈도, 95mm/hr)는 확보되었으나 이를 초과하는 강우(2010. 09, 98.5mm/hr)가 발생함에 따라 수행된 추가 분석(100mm/hr) 결과, 유역의 침수 완전해소를 위해서는 빗물저류배수시설과 더불어 국부적인 간선관거 개량의 필요성이 제시되었다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 도시유출모형 구축 시 최근 개선된 하수관로, 지형특성, 홍수량산정표준침(2019, 환경부)등에 따른 수리·수문특성을 반영하고, 신일펌프장(간이)을 추가적으로 고려하여 현재 기준에서의 침수피해 저감 효과를 면밀이 분석하였으며, 그 결과 서울시 방재성능목표 뿐만 아니라 100mm/hr에도 침수가 완전 해소되는 것으로 나타났다. 신월빗물저류배수터널 설치에 따른 침수피해 저감효과 평가 및 분석결과를 통해 자연재해위험개선지구의 해제가 가능할 것으로 판단되며, 지역안전·환경효과, 주민만족도 등 다양한 항목에 대하여 상습침수구역 내 주민설문조사를 수행한 결과 신월빗물저류배수터널에 대한 만족도가 충분히 제고된 만큼 향후 시설의 기능적, 운영적 측면에서의 유지관리가 잘 이루어진다면 침수로부터 안전한 도시를 구현하는데 큰 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다.

Geologic Structure and Rocks as Geotechnical Risk Factors at Intermediate depth Tunneling in Korea (한국의 대심도 터널 지반 위험인자로서 암석과 지질구조)

  • Geotechnical risk factors encountered in intermediate-depth underground tunnel construction are diverse, and the types and standards of risk factors are different according to the depth and regional geological characteristics of Korea. In order to understand the effects of geological characteristics and geologic structure on safety, which show various porous characteristics of urban underground complex ground, the risk factors of intermediate-depth rock mass in Korea were analyzed based on domestic and foreign cases. As a result of the study, seven categories affecting the stability of the intermediate-depth tunneling, namely, geologic structure, rock characteristics, hydrogeology, overburden, high stress, ground characteristics and artificial structures, and about 22 risk factors were derived. We present the risk criteria and interval values for risk evaluation of faults, folds, dikes, and rocks that have the greatest influence among risk factors. Criteria and interval values for other risk factors are under study.
