Optimal Design of Mud Flushing System in Ballast tank of LNG Carrier (LNG선 Ballast Tank Mud Flushing System의 최적설계)

  • During ballast of a LNG carrier, the mud at the sea floor can enter the tanks together with the ballast water if the LNG terminal is located at shallow water region. In order to remove the mud deposited on the tank floor during deballasting, the mud flushing system in the ballast tanks is applied. In this study, various analyses to conform the efficiency in the mud removal are performed. In order to design the mud flushing system, the particle size of the mud is measured by particle size analyzer. Flushing performance is evaluated by numerical analysis. From the results of numerical analysis including flow field and piping system network, the optimized flushing system is determined.

Experimental Study on the Heat Transfer Characteristics of the Solar Hot Water Storage Tank (태양열 축열조 열전달 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • 본 축열탱크 열전달에 관한 실험적 연구는 국내에서 개발하고 있는 태양열 온수기용으로 현재 널리 이용되고 있는 탱크-코일 방식의 문제점을 해결하면서 열전달 효율이 높은 2중 축열탱크를 개발하기 위한 것이다. 2중 축열탱크의 용량은 100리터로서 수평 및 수직형으로 설치하여 실험이 가능하도록 설계.제작하였고 탱크내부의 온도는 길이방향 및 반지름 방향으로 각각 등간격으로 설치하여 측정하였고 집열매체의 입.출구온도를 동시에 측정하였다. 실험결과는 (1) 축열탱크의 형태에 관계없이 축열탱크와 열교환을 하는 열매체의 유량이 증가할수록 열전달량은 증가한다. (2) 축열탱크의 형태에 따른 탱크내부 물의 온도 상승속도는 수직형(b)인 경우가 가장 크고, 그 다음 수직형(a), 수평형의 순으로 나타났다. 따라서 이중탱크형의 축열탱크는 수평형 보다 수직형이 동일한 용량의 축열매체 온도를 신속히 상승시킬 수 있다. 아울러 열성층화에 의하여 고온의 축열매체를 이용할 경우 수직형 축열탱크가 더욱 우수한 결과를 나타낸다. (3) 축열탱크 열전달계수(UA) 값은 ( $T_{in}$ - $T_{out}$)/$\Delta$ $T_{m}$ 의 크기에 좌우되며, 열전달계수를 설치방법에 따라 비교하면 수직형(b)>수직형(a)>수평형의 순서로 나타났다.다.

수치해석을 이용한 화학제주입탱크의 주입시간 특성분석

  • 원자력발전소 운전시 원자로냉각재는 부식 방지를 위해 적절한 화학물질을 함유하고 있어야한다. 이러한 원자로냉각재의 수질화학 조절은 유량조절 기능과 화학제주입 기능을 가진 화학 및 체적제어계통의 화학제주입탱크 및 체적제어탱크에 의하여 이루어진다. 본 연구에서는 영광5,6호기에서 화학제주입계통의 연결위치를 충전펌프 후단에서 전단으로 변경하고, 원자로보충수펌프에 의하여 화학제주입을 수행할 경우 요구되는 주입운전시간 특성에 대해 수치해석을 이용하여 분석하였다. 분석은 설계요건에서 요구되는 화학제주입탱크의 용량 및 주입유량을 고정하고 탱크의 구조적형상 변경, disk block 설치 및 주입속도를 변경(입구배관 크기 변경)하여 각각의 경우에 대하여 시간변화에 대한 탱크 내에서의 유속분포, 농도분포, 평균농도 등 을 구하였다. 분석결과 발전소의 빠른 화학제주입운전을 위해서는 탱크 내에 혼합효과를 중대 시킬 수 있는 disk block의 설치가 요구됨을 알 수 있었다.

Numerical Flow Analysis for Anti-Vortex Device (AVD) in Oxidizer Tank (산화제 탱크의 와류방지장치 유동해석)

  • During feeding oxidizer to the engine, vortices are occurred at lower dome of oxidizer tank inside by various working environments and external forces for liquid propellant feeding system of space launch vehicle. To eliminate the vortices or swirls Anti-Vortex Devices(AVD) shall be installed at inside lower oxidizer tank. Using the numerical analysis, we have confirmed the performance of AVD and analyzed the mass flow rate by feeding time and magnitudes of swirls on the free surface of oxidizer or exit surface according to the AVD number and length. Then we could derive the optimal design of the AVD number and length.

  • This paper is on intelligent decision system by safety distance of gas storage tank(IDSG). The safety distance fixed up by law is used to prevent from the injury by explosion of storage tank on the spot. However, it is not easy for a layman to decide a proper safety distance considering the size, shape and place of the storage tank. Therefore, this thesis shows the user-friendly intelligent decision system which a layman can decide the Bas related law, the size, shape and place of the storage tank by the intelligent decision, and it is to make assurance doubly sure for safety supervision on the spot. Also, the paper can make the data for the damage influence distance of overpressure by the explosion of the storage tank calculated by the scaling law of Hopkinson with the fixed distance by law, and safety range can be grasped with the graphic which is printed by the PHAST(Process Hazard Analysis Software Tool) model using this data.

  • The purpose of this study is to predict sloshing pressure of a actual tank by using measured pressure in scaled down tank and to evaluate with structural strength of LNG Corner Block. For this purpose, we performed sloshing analysis about 138K class tank by using Ansys CFX program, and were measured both average pressure and maximum peak pressure according to scaled tank ratio. Also, measured pressure was converted to pressure of the actual tank by Froude scale law, and we conducted the evaluation of structural strength about the conner block of actual size KC-1.

  • In this paper, the energy flows related to cryogenic propellant tank ullage were understood and pressurization efficiency of the tank was calculated using propellant feeding test data with the help of calculation program. The related energy flow terms and calculation method of each terms were described. Three test data of different tank pressure and incoming pressurant temperature were used. Under the test conditions, the pressurization efficiency was low in the range of 13.9%~19.3%. The proportion of energy loss to the incoming pressurant energy was in the range of 55.2%~67.6%. The energy loss to the propellant tank wall was the biggest one. If the temperature of incoming pressurant was the same, the rates of each energy flows to the incoming energy were almost the same regardless of the propellant tank pressure. The collapse factor of propellant tank was calculated using test data, and the relation of it to the heat loss rate was observed.

Stability Analysis of the Foundation of Hazardous Material Storage Tank for Preventing Leakage Accidents (누출사고 방지를 위한 위험물 탱크의 기초 안정성 분석)

  • The leakage of hazardous materials due to the defect in storage tank foundations is likely to cause tremendous fire disasters in the industry cluster area. Thus, adequate design and construction of the tank foundation is required for preventing tank leakage. In this study, four types of typical tank foundations were classified and modeled for 3D FEM analysis to perform stability evaluation on tank foundations. Furthermore, numerical analysis indicated that stress concentration just below the tank shells is 40 times that at the tank center. The settlement influence zone is about the tank radius and tank diameter in the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively. Thus, the appropriate guidelines for the design and construction of tank foundations were suggested via a comparison assessment of the numerical analysis results on the stress distribution and displacement of the tank foundations.

  • The number of shops needed for the fabrication of a sphere type cargo tank for an LNG carrier is proportional to the size of the tank to be constructed. Due to the limitations of facility investment, it is difficult to fabricate various size tanks with a perfectly spherical shape in the (factory). An efficient method of increasing the capacity of the cargo tank is to extend the conventional sphere type LNG tank vertically by inserting a cylindrical shell structure. In this study, equations for the dynamic pressure distribution due to horizontal acceleration are derived for a sphere type LNG tank with central extension. The derived equations can be easily applied to the design and structural assessment of a sphere type LNG tank with central extension. Furthermore, the results of this study can be combined with the static design loads previously reported by Shin & Ko [9], in order to establish a simplified analysis method which enables a precise initial estimate to be obtained, thereby obviating the need for a time consuming finite element analysis.

  • In this study, the energy conversion equipment from the radiation energy to mechanical energy by using n­pentane as the operating fluid was constructed and the performance to pump the water was tested for the utilization of solar powered water pump. The equipment was designed optimally, after the theoretical analyses of the water pumping head and water quantity per cycle were done. The pentane vapour temperature in the condenser and the temperature of the outlet water from the condenser became lowered and the heat transfer rate became higher with decreasing the water inlet level to the condenser. The temperature difference between the condenser and the water tank was significant. Therefore, the distance between the water tank and condenser was recommended to be shorten and the diameter of their connecting pipe was recommended to be narrow in order to reduce the resistance of the fluid passage and improve the heat transfer rate. The amount of water pumped was 1.6­2.4 liters. Mass flow rate of the cooling water became lowered when the cooling water pipe was prolonged from the condenser to improve the heat transfer rate.
