The Effect of Oxygen and Chlorine Dioxide during Pulp Bleaching - The Effect of Hydroxyl Radical and Metal Ion - (펄프 표백시 산소와 이산화염소의 영향 - 수산기 라디칼의 생성과 금속이온의 영향-)

  • Hydroxyl radicals were detected and their qualitative yields were estimated by using chemiluminescence method and $\gamma$-irradiation technique in oxygen or chlorine dioxide radicals bleaching conditions. The correlation of hydroxyl radical formation and lignin model(Apocynol) or carbohydrate model($\alpha$-D-glucopyranose and methyl-$\beta$-D-glucopyranoside) degradation was studied in the presence of metal ion or without metal ion. The results showed that the presence of metal ions efficiently affected the formation of hydroxyl radicals in oxygen bleaching process, in the order of $Cu^{2+}$ > $Mn^{2+}$ > $Mg^{2+}$ > $Fe^{2+}$, and these metal gave also rise to the degradation of carbohydrate. But it was found that the addition of $100{\mu}m\;Mg^{2+}$ gave an efficient protection against carbohydrate degradation and suppressed the hydroxyl radical formation under oxygen bleaching conditions. And the presence of $Cu^{2+}$ had a detrimental effect on the stability of carbohydrates, whereas the addition of $3{\mu}m\;Mn^{2+}$ surprisingly had a small protective effect on methyl--$\beta$-D-glucopyranoside. In the $ClO_2$ radical bleaching conditions the hydroxyl radical expected to generate from water or substrates was not detected in the presence of metals.

  • Dietary fiber content and carbohydrate digestibility of dried soymilk residue (DSR) and tofu containing DSR were evaluated. Insoluble dietary fiber (IDF) content was 37.4 and 49.8% (%, moisture free basis) for common soymilk residue and DSR, respectively. Both soymilk residues contained 12.5% of soluble dietary fiber (SDF, dry basis). Tofu containing DSR, which is partially substituted with DSR corresponding to 10% weight of soybean used, had higher dietary fiber content (30% more for RDF and 45% more for SDF) than tofu manufactured in traditional manner. Carbohydrate digestibility was much lower in all tofu products ranging from 11% to 21%, and there was a negative correlation( r = -0.9243) between carbohydrate digestibility and total dietary fiber content.

Optimum Enzyme Mixture of Cellulase, Hemicellulase, and Xylanase for Production of Water-Soluble Carbohydrates from Rice Straw (볏짚 유래 수용성 탄수화물 생산에 있어 cellulase, hemicellulase 및 xylanase 최적혼합조건)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the production of water-soluble carbohydrates (WSCs) by treatment of different amounts of rice straw with cellulase, hemicellulase, and xylanase. Treatment of high amounts of rice straw (100 g/l) with cellulase and hemicellulase resulted in similar production of WSCs. Reducing the amount of rice straw to 50 g/l decreased the production of WSCs by hemicellulase but had no effect on WSC production by cellulase. The interaction among rice straw amounts, and hemicellulase and xylanase activities was investigated using a Box Behnken design and a response surface model. An interaction was found only between hemicellulase and xylanase. An enzyme mixture consisting of 0.55 mg/ml of hemicellulase and 0.65 mg/ml of xylanase generated the highest amounts of WSCs, regardless of the amount of rice straw provided. Therefore, the activity of cellulase was higher than that of either hemicellulose or xylanase for WSC production from rice straw. The interaction observed for hemicellulase and xylanase indicates that a combined enzyme treatment could improve the production of WSCs from rice straw.

Polymerization and Depolymerization of Lignin by Some White-rot Fungi (수종(數種) 목재부후균(木材腐朽菌)에 의한 리그닌의 중합화(重合化)와 탈중합화(脫重合化) 현상(現象))

  • So as to clarify the biodegradation mechanism of lignin, lignin biodegradability among four white-rot fungi, Pleurotus ostreatus 1,2,3, and Polyporus versicolor were compared each other by simple plate test method, so that P. ostreatus 2 and P. versicolor exhibited the most wide clear zone. And to investigate the degree of lignin depolymerization, they were grown in lignin­media where various carbohydrates were added, then that was analyzed through column chromato­graphy. In consequence, P. ostreatus 2 and 3 showed more excellent effect of lignin depolymerization among those 4 white-rot fungi, and also in culture media in which glucose, cellobiose and xylose were added. When culture filtrates of the same media were scanned at UV range, there were no peak at 280 nm in the culture filtrate of P. ostreatus 2 and 3 where glucose, cellobiose and xylose were added. At the same time, culture filtrate, in which lignin was only contained as a carbon source, showed browning in color, whereas culture media with glucose, cellobiose and xylose in addition to lignin became yellowish (that is, decolorization). From above results, it might be assumed that polymerization and browning of lignin were decreased and lignin biodegradability was increased, when grown in lignin media where various carbohydrates were added.

Relationship of Carbohydrate and Fat Intake with Metabolic Syndrome in Korean Women: The Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007-2016) (한국 여성의 탄수화물/지질 섭취가 대사증후군에 미치는 영향: 국민건강영양조사(2007-2016)를 중심으로)

  • The objective of the study was to examine the associations of dietary carbohydrate and fat intake with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in Korean women. A cross-sectional study was employed based on data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination (2007-2016). A total of 22,850 women aged 19 to 69 years were studied after excluding responses from pregnant or lactating women and those with missing metabolic values. Dietary intake data were collected with a 24-hour recall method. Dietary carbohydrate and fat intakes were divided into quintiles. After controlling for confounding variables, a multivariable logistic regression and general linear model were used. The findings indicated that HDL cholesterol levels were lower (p for trend<0.01), while triglyceride levels (p for trend=0.04), waist circumference (p for trend<0.01), and systolic blood pressure (p for trend<0.01) were higher among participants in the highest quintile of carbohydrate intake compared to those in the lowest quintile. Participants in the highest quintile of fat intake had lower waist circumference (p for trend=0.02), triglyceride level (p for trend<0.01), and systolic blood pressure (p for trend<0.01), while higher HDL cholesterol level (p for trend<0.01) compared to those in the lowest fat intake quintile. Metabolic syndrome was more likely to be present in the highest quintile of carbohydrates intake than in the lowest quintile (5th quintile vs. 1st quintile, OR: 1.32; 95% CI: 1.11 to 1.57). However, metabolic syndrome was less likely to be present in the highest quintile of fat intake than in the lowest quintile (5th quintile vs. 1st quintile, OR: 0.73; 95% CI: 0.61 to 0.86). This study revealed that high dietary carbohydrate intake and low dietary fat intake were associated with metabolic syndrome in Korean women.

  • Milk was concentrated by commercial tubular membranes, The permeation rate reduction of hydrophilic membranes (sulfonated poly sulfone (SPSf), polyacrylonitrile (PAN), cellulose acetate (CA)) was found not to be large but hydrophobic membranes to be pronounced considerably, In the case of UF concentration total solids, proteins, fats and minerals were increased as concentrated but carbohydrates decreased. NF showed the same behavior except carbohydrates showing small reduction rate.

  • 큰민어는 민어과 어류로서, 일본의 천엽현 이남에서 동중국해까지 분포하며, 전장 1.5m, 체중 30kg까지 성장하는 초대형 어류로서 육질이 백색인 고급어종으로 특히 겨울철에 맛이 좋다고 알려져 있다. 최근 들어 큰민어 종묘생산이 성공하면서 양식생산에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있는 실정이다. 양어사료의 영양성분중, 특히 해산어류에서 단백질이 차지하는 비율은 매우 높고, 사료원료중 단백질원료는 가격이 높아 양식대상어종의 최적 사료단백질함량 구명뿐만 아니라 에너지원으로 사용되는 탄수화물과 지질의 함량은 양어사료 설계시 반드시 고려되어야 할 영양소이다.
