Long-term Impact of Single Rice Cropping System on SOC Dynamics (동일비료장기연용 논에서 토양유기탄소의 변동)

  • Global warming and climate changes have been major issues for decades andvarious researches have reported their impact on our environment. According to recent researches, increased carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) concentration in the atmosphere is considered as a dominant contributor to global climate changes and thus numerous researches were conducted to control $CO_2$ concentration in the atmosphere. Soil management practices, such as reducing tillage intensity, returning plant residues, and enhancing cropping system have recommended for restoring organic carbon into the soils effectively. However, few studies on soil carbon sequestration have reported for Korean paddy soils. Therefore, evaluation of soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics in the long-term single rice cropping system is essential in order to find out potential capacity of paddy field as a carbon sink source. The objective of this research was to evaluate SOC dynamics on the long-term single rice cropping system. Research was conducted in the research farm at National Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology, Rural Development Administration, Suwon. Long-term phosphorus and potassium fertilization and lime application didn't significantly affect on SOC compared to controls. We found that SOC contents were increased continually at the long-term composting plots with enhanced rate of carbon storage. In conclusion, continuous incorporation of plant residues (i.e., composting) is recommended to effectively sequester soil carbon for Korean paddy soils. This result implies that continuous composting in a paddy field may contributenot only for increasing SOC in the soils but also for mitigating global warming through reducing carbon dioxide emission into atmosphere. Therefore, we recommend that a strategy or policy measures to encourage farmers to return plant residues continuously for mitigation of global warming as well as soil fertility is being developed.

  • 본 논문에서는 국부적으로 비선형 거동을 보이는 고전적인 $J_2$ 소성흐름 이론에 근거한 탄소성 문제의 해를 효율적으로 구하기 위해 전체-국부 확장함수를 지닌 일반유한요소법을 제안한다. 제안된 기법은 비선형 거동을 보이는 영역을 포함하는 국부 문제의 비선형 해를 구하고 이를 일반유한요소법의 단위 오목 분할의 개념을 통해 전체 문제의 해 공간을 확장하는데 이용한다. 이는 적은 계산량으로 복잡한 탄소성문제의 정확한 해를 얻는 것을 가능하게 하며 기법의 강건성과 정확성을 입증하기 위한 수치해석 예제가 다루어진다.

Elastic Plastic Finite Element Calculation of Standard Fracture Toughness Specimens (표준 파괴인성시험편에 대한 탄소성 유한요소해석)

  • The purpose of this study is elastic plastic finite element analysis for standard fracture toughness specimens. The principles of elastic-plastic fracture mechanics are shortly summarized and the special requirements for computational tools are derived. Possibilities to model the crack tip singularities are mentioned. The relevant fracture parameters like J-Integral and COD and their correlation are evaluated from elastic plastic finite element calculations of standard fracture toughnes specimens. The size and form of the plastic zone are shown. The comparion between experiment and caculation is discussed as well as the application of the limit load analysis.

Effect of Carbonized Biomass Derived from Pruning on Soil Carbon Pools in Pear Orchard (배 과수원에서 전정가지 유래 탄화물 시용이 토양 탄소 축적에 미치는 영향)

  • BACKGROUND: Carbonized biomass is increasingly used as a tool of soil carbon sequestration. The objective of this study was to evaluate soil carbon storage to application of carbonized biomass derived from pear tree pruning.METHODS AND RESULTS: The carbonized biomass was a mobile pyrolyzer with field scale, which a reactor was operated about 400~500℃ for 5 hours. The treatments were consisted of a control without input of carbonized biomass and two levels of carbonized biomass inputs as 6.06 Mg/ha, C-1 and 12.12 Mg/ha, C-2. It was shown that the soil carbon pools were 49.3 Mg/ha for C-1, 57.8 Mg/ha for C-2 and 40.1 Mg/ha for the control after experimental periods. The contents of accumulated soil carbon pool were significantly (P < 0.001) increased with enhancing the carbonized biomass input amount. The slopes (1.496) of the regression equations are suggested that carbon storage from the soil was increased about 0.1496 Mg/ha with every 100 kg/ha of carbonized biomass input amount.CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that application of carbonized biomass would be increased the soil carbon contents due to a highly stable C-matrix of carbonized biomass. More long-term studies are needed to be proved how long does carbon stay in orchard soils.

A Study on the Performance Analysis of AIoT High-Efficiency Streetlamp for Carbon Emissions (탄소배출권용 AIoT 고효율 가로등 성능분석 연구)

  • Following the signing of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change (UNFCCC, 2015), the world is expanding greenhouse gas reduction activities through comprehensive participation that includes not only developed countries but also developing countries. Major countries around the world are placing high expectations on the effectiveness of total carbon emissions regulation through the carbon emissions market. However, in order to obtain carbon credits, third-party verification is required based on quantitative carbon reduction data. Accordingly, in this paper, we developed an AIoT high-efficiency street light for carbon emissions and conducted a performance analysis study to measure the luminous efficiency of the lighting fixture. To obtain carbon emissions rights, we used high-efficiency LED PKG, developed our own high-voltage PFC, and developed high-efficiency lighting fixtures capable of communication. For communication, the 2.4GHz LoRa method was adopted between the lighting fixture and the gateway. Lens design was conducted through simulation of Korea Expressway Corporation's standard streetlight types A, B, and C. The performance of the streetlight was verified as being more efficient than other existing products through the measurement of luminous efficiency by an accredited rating agency, and it is expected that carbon emissions rights will be obtained by reducing electrical energy through this.

  • 탄소섬유는 전구체의 종류에 따라 PAN계, 피치계 그리고 레이온계로 나뉘며 최종 탄소섬유의 특성에도 차이가 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 최근에는 PAN계 탄소섬유가 세계 시장의 대부분을 차지하고 있으며, PAN계 탄소섬유의 초경량, 고강도, 고탄성, 내약품성 그리고 열안정성 등의 우수한 특성으로 최첨단 고기능성 제품의 복합재로 많이 이용되고 있다. 그러나 탄소섬유가 가지고 있는 높은 열전도성은 적용에 따라 단점으로 작용될 수도 있다. 예를 들면, 로켓 엔진의 노즐이나 원자로의 구조물 그리고 극한조건용 구조재료 등, 고강도 단열특성을 요하는 최첨단 복합재로 응용 범위를 넓히는데 한계로 작용한다. 레이온은 최초의 탄소섬유 전구체였으나 공정상 경제성이 떨어지는 이유로, 지금은 고탄성을 요구하는 특수 목적으로만 소량 생산되고 있다. 레이온의 주원료는 셀룰로오스이며 셀룰로오스는 지구상에서 가장 흔한 재료이므로 오늘날 셀룰로오스를 보강재로 이용하려는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 탄소섬유의 열전도도를 낮추기 위한 방법으로 안정화셀룰로오스를 첨가한 PAN용액을 출발물질로 탄소섬유를 제조하고 특성 연구를 진행하였다. PAN용액에 셀룰로오스의 분산성을 향상시키기 위해 셀룰로오스를 열처리하였다. 이 과정에서 얻어진 안정화 셀룰로오스의 수율을 높이기 위해 셀룰로오스를 난연 처리하였으며, 그 결과 안정화셀룰로오스의 수율을 향상시킬 수 있었다. 안정화셀룰로오스를 첨가시킨 PAN계 탄소섬유의 물리적, 기계적 그리고 열적 특성을 SEM, XRD, 만능 인장시험기, TGA 그리고 Laser Flash Method 등을 통해 주요 특성 및 변화를 관찰한 결과, 순수한 PAN계 탄소섬유의 특성과 유사한 결과를 얻었다. 향후 몇 가지 공정상의 문제점을 개선한다면 흥미로운 결과를 기대할 수 있을 것으로 본다.

  • 최근의 대기오염과 기후변화는 특정 지역에만 국한되지 않고 전지구 규모로 발생하고 있다. 따라서 인공위성에 탑재된 원격 센서들을 이용한 대기환경 모니터링이 주목을 받고 있다. 일산화탄소 (CO)는 OH 농도와 직접적인 관련이 있는 대류권 화학에서 매우 중요한 미량기체이며, 대기 중 lifetime이 약 2개월이므로 산불이나 대규모 공업단지에서 생성된 CO를 포함한 오염물질들의 추적자로 사용될 수 있다. 이러한 취지에서 MOPITT (Measurement of Pollution in The Troposphere) 기기가 개발되어, 1999년에 지구관측위성인 Terra에 탑재되어 CO 및 CH$_4$ 모니터링을 수행하고 있다.   • In this study. the fatigue lives of two kinds of specimens made by $CO^2$ gas weld were assessed. The materials for two kinds of specimens were taken out of the virgin carbon steel tubes and the used carbon steel tubes respectively. As a result, it was found that the fatigue lives of two groups of specimens were in the same order of magnitude.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the thermal conductivity of a carbon/phenolic 8-harness woven composite. An experiment apparatus and procedure developed in the previous study were used to measure the thermal conductivities. This method compares the temperature difference between a reference specimen with a known thermal conductivity and the test sample specimen in a steady-state condition.

A Study on Transport Characteristics of Organic and Inorganic Carbons in the Open Estuary of the Tamjin River, Korea (탐진강 열린하구에서 탄소물질의 성상별 이동 특성 연구)

  • This paper represents an investigation into the pattern of carbon transportation and composition on an open estuary in the transition zone between the river and marine environment in Tamjin River where stream water flows into the Gangjin Bay. To conduct the study, seven plots were established along an environmental gradient from river and estuary to the ocean. Surface water samples were collected thrice during the summer rainfalls and non-flooding seasons in 2017. The samples were then measured for the concentrations of dissolved organic carbon ([DOC]), particulate organic carbon ([POC]) and dissolved inorganic carbon ([DIC]). An analysis of the results showed that [POC] did not increase in the river even during the summer rainfall. However, [DOC] increased resulting in a higher [DOC]:[POC] ratios for the non-flooding season compared to summer rainfall events. On the other hand, the marine site of the estuary bay showed the highest [DIC] which was stable relative to those of river sites. The results suggest that in an open estuary zone, river and ocean supplied the open estuary zone with different types of carbon materials; mainly DOC supplied from the river and DIC sourced from the ocean.
