Inelastic Response Characteristic Analysis of Frame Structures Subjected to Near Fault Ground Motion (근거리지진을 받는 골조 구조물의 비탄성응답 특성 분석)

  • In this study, After considering the general characteristic of Near Fault Ground Motion, the inelastic response spectrum is made to evaluate using the change of ductility and yield stiffness coefficient according to the inelastic behavior of structures which couldn't be examined through the elastic response spectrum. It is conducted to the elastic and inelastic time history analysis about the long period structure which could reflect the characteristic of Near Fault Ground Motion with the best and it is also examined the aspect of response distribution about the input data. Moreover, the response characteristic of structure is analyzed by investigating the plastic hinge for the purpose of grasp about the inelastic behavior of structure.

Realistic Cloth Simulation using Plastic Deformation (소성변형특성을 이용한 사실적인 직물 시뮬레이션)

  • This paper presents a cloth simulation technique that implements plastic deformation. Plasticity is the property that material does not restore completely to the original state once deformed, in contrast to elasticity. We model cloth using a particle model, and posit two kinds of connections between particles, i.e. the sequential connections between immediate neighbors, and the interlaced connections between every other neighbors. The sequential connections represent the compression and tension of cloth, and the interlaced connections the bending in cloth. The sequential connections are modeled by elastic springs, and the interlaced connections by elastic or plastic spring depending on the amount of the current deformation of the connections. Our model is obtained by adding plastic springs to the existing elastic particle model of cloth. Using the new model, we have been able to simulate bending wrinkles, permanently deformed wrinkles, and small wrinkles widely distributed over cloth. When constructing elastic and plastic spring models for sequential and interlaced connections, we took pain to prevent the stiffness matrix of the whole cloth system from being indefinite, in order to help achieve physical stability of the cloth motion equation and to improve the effectiveness of the numerical method.

The elastic and plastic behaviour of the micro-FE models for vertebral trabecular bones (척추 해면골에 대한 미세 유한요소모델의 탄성 및 소성특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the micro-FE analyses were carried out for the plastic behaviour of vertebral trabecular bones. Many researchers have investigated the elastic behaviour of trabecular bones by using the micro-finite element models based on the micro-CT images. However, there was no micro-FE model to account for the plastic behaviour of trabecular bones. Ulrich et at. reported that best results at coarser model were obtained when using 'compensated hexahedron models' with the same relative density. This study indicates that, for the elastic and plastic analysis, 'the compensated hexahedron FE model' is likely to be limited to about 63$\mu\textrm{m}$ image resolution in the vertebra trabecular bones.

Evaluation of Rutting Behavior of Hot Mix Asphalt using Slag and Waste Foundry Sand as Asphalt Paving Materials (슬래그와 폐주물사를 이용한 아스팔트 혼합물의 소성변형특성에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this research is to evaluate engineering properties of recycled aggregates, slag as coarse & fine aggregate and waste foundry sand(WFS) as fine aggregate, in hot mix asphalt(HMA). In this research, soundness, gradation and particle analysis, abrasion, specific gravity and absorption test were carried out. The optimum asphalt binder content(OAC) for various HMA combinations of recycled aggregate was determined by Marshall Mix Design. The ranges determined is between 7.2% and 7.5%. Indirect tensile test, resilient modulus test, creep test were carried out for characterization of rutting behavior of various combination of HMA. Judging from the limited tests, the HMA with recycled aggregates is not as good rutting resistance as the HMA with common aggregates. After finishing the Wheel tracking test, the application or feasibility for the use of recycled aggregate as asphalt paving material will be determined.

  • Dynamic Shear modulus (G) is one of the imfortant dynamic soil properties to estimate the response of soil to dynamic loading. Problems in engineering geo1ogy practice the require the knowledge of soil properties subjected to dynamic loadings include soil-structure interaction during earthquakes, bomb blasts, construction operations, and mining. Although the dynamic shear modulus (G) is a time-dependent property, G change with time is often neglected. In this study, the effect of duration of confinement and its affecting factors (previous stress and strain, particle size and sustained pressure, and plasticity index) on the low-amplitude shear modulus ($G_{max}$) of soils are reviewed, and some empirical correlations based on mean particle diameter and plasticity index are proposed.

  • 고온구조물은 고온에서의 운전상태에 따라 복잡한 하중이력을 경험하게 됨으로써 상온에서 발생하는 손상 기구와는 달리 온도 의존성을 가질 뿐만 아니라, 상온에서 볼 수 없는 크립-피로의 상호작용에 의한 손상현상이 나타나게 된다. 따라서 고온 구조물의 건전성 평가를 위한 비탄성 해석을 신뢰성 있게 수행하기 위해서는 구조물의 비선형 거동을 비교적 정확히 예측할 수 있는 통합 구성방정식의 개발 및 적용과 온도에 따른 재료의 물성치 확보가 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 통합 점소성 모델인 수정된 Chaboche 모델에 대해서 내연적 시간 적분법을 적용하여 ABAQUS의 UMAT으로 구현하였고, 개발된 프로그램을 이용하여 INCONEL 718을 사용한 단순 인장해석, 반복 소성 특성해석 및 크립 해석을 수행하여 프로그램의 신뢰성을 평가하였다. 또한 원공이 있는 평판에 대한 예제해석을 수행함으로써 개발된 프로그램이 고온구조물의 건전성 평가를 위한 비탄성 해석에 적절하게 적용될 수 있음을 확인하였다.

Load-deflection characteristics and plastic deformation of NiTi closed coil springs (수종의 니켈-티타늄 폐쇄형 코일 스프링의 하중-변위 특성 및 소성 변형 비교)

  • Objective: NiTi closed coil springs were reported to have relatively constant unloading forces. However, the characteristics of NiTi closed coil springs from various manufacturers have not been elucidated. The purpose of this study was to compare load-deflection characteristics of various NiTi closed coil springs and to find out the optimal range of extension. Methods: Seven kinds of NiTi closed coil springs from five manufacturers were tested. Load deflection curves were obtained at extension ranges from 2 mm to 30 mm. Also, springs were kept extended during a 4 week period, and then load deflection curves were obtained again. Results: Sentalloy (Tomy) and Jinsung blue (Jinsung) showed superelasticity in every extension ranges tested and showed plastic deformation of less than 1 mm. Ni-Ti (Ormco) showed superelasticity only after the springs were extended at or more than 10 mm, thereby meaning that clinicians should extend these springs at or more than 10 mm to utilize the superelasticity. Orthonol (RMO) and Nitanium (Ortho Organizers) did not show superelasticity. After 4 weeks of extension, all springs showed plastic deformation less than 1 mm when the extension was at or under 25 mm. Conclusions: The superelastic behavior of NiTi closed springs were different among various NiTi spring products, and some NiTi closed springs failed to show superelasticity.

  • 열탄성 부영역, 열탄점소성/손상 부영역, 공유면, 접촉 공유면에 기반을 둔 영역/경계 분할법을 적용하여 재료 비선형성을 갖는 열탄점소성 손상 문제와 경계 비선형성을 갖는 접촉 문제의 효율적인 해석을 제안하였다. 영역 및 경계 분할에 관련된 공유면 및 접촉 공유면에서의 연속 구속 조건을 처리하기 위하여 간단한 벌칙 함수 기법을 적용하였다. 결과적으로 재료 및 경계 비선형성은 소수의 부영역과 접촉 경계면에서 계산되는 유한요소 행렬들에 국한된다. 따라서 적절한 해석 알고리듬을 구성하면 대폭적인 효율성 향상이 가능하게 된다. 대변형과 같은 기하학적 비선형성은 고려하지 않았으며, 간단한 수치 실험을 통해서 열탄점소성 손상 및 접촉 해석의 효율성에 관련된 기본적인 특성을 분석하였다.

Evaluation of the Mechanical Characteristics of the Large Stone Asphalt Mixtures (대입경 혼합물의 역학적 특성 평가)

  • This study presents the mechanical characteristics, such as the permanent deformation and the crack, of the large stone asphalt mixtures. The large stone mixture was studied by Kandhal at NCAT(National Center for Asphalt Technology) in 1989. Japan and Arabian countries adopted the large stone mixture for the pavement construction. The experience and the study results showed that the interlocking of the aggregate system of the large stone mixtures is stable and less dependent on the binder characteristics in high temperature. These properties are known as the rutting resistant parameters. However, the mechanical test results should be supported to prove the benefits of the large stone mixtures. The creep test, resilient modulus tests on three different temperature, wheel tracking test and ravelling tests were conducted to evaluate the performance of the large stone mixtures in this study. The test results were compared with the conventional mixtures and modified asphalt concrete mixtures. The large stone mixtures showed better rutting resistance performance.

  • An alternative design method of existing methods based on elastic theory the design method of roadbed considering plastic deformation of roadbed and stress-strain at roadbed materials with the cyclic loading of trains passing. The characteristics of the developed design method considering traffic load, number of cyclic loading and resilience modulus of roadbed materials can evaluate elastic strain as well as plastic settlement with allowable design criteria. The proposed design method is applied to standard roadbed section drawing of HONAM high-speed railway considering design conditions such as allowable elastic and plastic settlement, train speed, the tonnage of trains. As a result, required levels of resilience modulus model parameter ($A_E$), unconfined compressive strength, types of soil material were evaluated.
