Asymmetric effect of aging on cognitive control processes: An ERP study (인지적 통제 과정에 미치는 노화의 비대칭적 영향: ERP 연구)

  • Recently, studies on cognitive control revealed that the optimal level of control is determined on the basis of reward and cost. The value of reward can be subjective and therefore, the optimal control strength can vary accordingly. The inconsistent effect of aging on cognitive control can be the result of flexible adjustment of control signal strength made by the older subjects. In other words, the elderly people maintains the ability to set the optimal level of control, which is known as the function of the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex. On the other hand, the age-related decline in cognitive control is obvious in rule maintenance and inhibition, which has to do with the function of lateral prefrontal cortex. In this study, we had young and old adults perform go-no go task and compared the behavioral and neural results for different reward conditions. Both age groups showed the best performance and the largest ERN amplitude when the reward was most appealing to them. And there was no age effect in ERN amplitude even though older adults' d' and accuracy was inferior to younger participants. These findings suggest that the effect aging on different cognitive control processes can be asymmetric.

Effects of Capstone Design Education in Korea: A meta-analysis (국내 캡스톤 디자인 교육의 학습효과에 관한 메타분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to comprehensively examine the effect of capstone design education on learning outcomes and propose directions for effective design and implementation of capstone design classes. For achieving this, a 21 studies meeting the standards among the academic journals and thesis published in Korea by September 2020 were selected, and based on 83 effect sizes, the meta analyses were carried out. The results of this study were as follows: First, the total effect size of capstone design education was 0.96, which is a large effect size. Second, the effect size was large in order of affective, cognitive, and social areas. Third, the effect size of vocational basic ability showed a large effect size while creativity showed a medium-sized one. Fourth, the effect size showed highest for design subject, the grade in the third or fourth, there was help from industrial corporation, theory and practice. Based on these results, this study proposed instructional design implications in order to increase the learning effects of capstone design in Korea.

A Meta-analysis of Relationship between Perceived Value, Risk and Behavioral Intention on E-commerce (전자상거래 연구에서 인지된 가치, 위험 및 행위의도 관계에 대한 메타분석)

  • A Meta-analysis refers to a statistical literature synthesis method from the quantitative results of many known empirical studies. Recently, the convergence of knowledge-based society and information telecommunication technologies has a rapid impact on politics, economics and various fields. We conducted a meta-analysis and review of between perceived value, risk and behavioral intention on e-commerce researches. This study focused a total of 25 research papers that established causal relationships in between perceived value, risk and behavioral intention on e-commerce published in Korean academic journals during 2000 and 2014. The result of the meta-analysis might be summarized that the effect size in the path from the perceived value to the behavioral intention with the effect size 0.508. Also, it showed that the effect size in the path from perceived value to the behavioral intention with the effect size -0.251. Based on these findings, several theoretical and practical implications were suggested and discussed with the difference from previous researches.

On the Effect of Extended Human Group Scale in Perception of Group Ratio and Size at Majority-biased Social Learning (인구 집단의 스케일의 확장이 집단 비율 및 집단 크기 지각에 미치는 영향: 다수편향적 사회적 정보 활용을 중심으로)

  • New media moved the place of social exchange to the Internet, allowing large groups to communicate in one place beyond the limits of time and space. Recent studies have also reported cases in which human social abilities do not keep up with the expansion of group scale through social media. In this context, current study investigated how human perception of social information is affected by the expansion of the group scale in the context of majority bias. Using Internet-based task, the psychological processes that group ratio and group size are perceived and affect majority-biased social information use were investigated, and whether group scale moderates those processes was examined. The group ratio has a positive effect on the majority bias, and the relationship was partially mediated by ratio perception. Group scale did not moderate the relationship between group ratio and ratio perception. On the other hand, the correlation between group size and majority-biased social information use was not significant. Group scale moderates group size perception. The group size and size perception showed positive correlation under the smaller group scale condition. However under the extended group scale condition, the perceived group size became significantly lower and lost its correlation with group size. These results provide evidence that the psychological mechanism related to group size perception was not properly responding to the expansion of the group scale. Furthermore, the possibility of a specific psychological mechanism for processing group size information and the form of information input specifically accepted by majority bias were discussed from perspective of evolutionary psychology.

  • 인공건물의 평면특성에 대한 시각을 통한 인지를 청각으로 대체했을 경우의 인지능력을 측정하였다. 정상적으로 시각(visual)을 이용하겠으나, 시각 장애자의 경우는 청각(auditory) 또는 촉각(tactile) 또는 두가지 모두를 사용하게 된다. Psychophysical approach를 사용하여 모의평면에 대한 인지능력을 JND단위로 측정하였다. 청각적인 신호를 관찰자에게 제공하기 위해 전자장치(electronic ranging device)가 고안되었다. 이 장치는 목표물까지의 거리를 초음파의 이동시간으로 측정하여 음의세기(sound level)로 발생시켜 준다. 관찰자는 이 음의 세기를 듣고 거리를 추정하고 물표의 방향은 이 장비를 쥔 손의 방향, 즉, proprioceptive cue를 이용하게 된다. 세가지 task에 대한 실험은 평면의 slantness, 두 평면이 교차하는 모서리의 크기, 두 평면사이의 공간(aperture size)등에 대한 인지능력의 측정실험이다. 실험결과를 보면, 관찰자는 시각신호 대신에 청각신호를 사용할 수 있는 능력이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 세가지 task별 JND측정치는 slant angle 6도, 모서리의 concavity 10도, angular aperature size 3-5도로 나타났다. 이 결과는 정상인이 시각을 이용한 인지능력과 큰 차이가 없음을 보여주고 있다.

A Meta Analysis on Effects of Flipped Learning in Korea (국내 플립러닝의 학습효과에 관한 메타분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the learning effect of domestic flipped learning in meta - analysis. We collected a total of 95 studies on flipped learning effectiveness published in Korea by 2017, of which 59 are dissertations and thesis and 36 are academic papers. The results were analyzed using CMA program. First, the learning effect of flipped learning was .58, which showed that the learning effect was higher than the lecture class. Second, the effect size of cognitive, affirmative, and interpersonal domains showed significant effects of flipped learning in all three domains. Third, the learning effect of flipped learning is influenced by the type of publishing, school type, core subject, when the type of publication are dissertation and thesis, when the type of school is high school. Based on the results, this study suggested implications for the design and implementation of flipped learning in Korea.

A study on colour appearance by the size of colour stimulation at foveal vision (중심와 시각에서 색채 자극의 크기에 따른 컬러 어피어런스 연구)

  • Next generation displays show a trend of evolving from the display device environment (represented by existing televisions) to the mobile environment. The mobile display corresponding to the personal display is similar to a home theatre; however, they are advantageous because they are small and have a relatively lower weight. Therefore, the display industry has an interest in diverse product applications of displays, reproducing more accurate colours, and offering improved image quality from display devices of various sizes. To address these interests, a psychophysical experiment was conducted in this research. The experiment compared the size of the colour stimulation corresponding to foveal vision by gradually increasing the lightness of the background. This was based on the assumption of possible differences in colours being recognized by the lightness of the background and the size of the colour stimulation. Contrary to the results of previous studies, where the colours are identified more clearly as the size of the colour stimulation increases (assuming that the lightness of the background is not considered) here the results of the experiment showed that the attributes of the identified colours were different depending on the lightness of the background and the size of the colour stimulation. Based on the experimental results, it is possible to resolve errors in colour conversion that can occur when the input image is switched from a large screen size to a mobile size display, and to reproduce the colours more accurately and improve the image quality.

A Comparison Study of Colour Perception considering Peripheral Vision on Display Device (디스플레이상에서 주변시를 고려한 색채 인지 비교 연구)

  • In this study, under the assumption that there may be differences in colour attributes that can be perceived according to the brightness of the background and the size of the colour stimulus, a test was conducted where colour matching was done for stimulus sizes of $10^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$ in terms of peripheral vision by varying the background brightness. The test results showed that depending on the background brightness and the specific combinations of the Munsell colour attributes used as the test stimulus, colours can be perceived differently even if they are the same colours. In addition, in contrast to findings from previous studies on colour perception according to the stimulus size, it was found that even if the size of the colour stimulus is relatively small, colours can be perceived more colourfully or more brightly with changes in the background brightness. Based on the findings of this study, degradation in image quality can be improved, which may occur when the size of the input image is changed at a later time, and also, contributions can be made when it comes to the reproduction of effective sold three-dimensional structures that reflect visual qualities when processing 3D holographic imagery, in addition to 2D imagery.

  • 초 고령사회가 전망됨에 따라 적극적인 문화향유를 즐기는 다양한 신체적 활동성이 있는 새로운 실버세대를 스마트 시니어라고 지칭한다. 이전 연구에서는 스마트 시니어의 신체적 노화나 운동능력 저하를 고려하여 제공하는 맞춤형 UI/UX 콘텐츠 서비스를 제공하였다. 또한 스마트 시니어의 인지 반응 검사를 통하여 인지적 특성 저하 요소를 파악하고 A, B, C 그룹으로 나뉘어 그룹 특성에 맞게 글자 크기, 폰트 종류, 재생 속도 등 설정을 조정하여 맞춤형 UI/UX 콘텐츠를 제공하였다. 그러나 약 180여개의 인지 반응 검사를 진행함에 따라 스마트 시니어의 집중력 저하의 문제점이 있었다. 본 논문에서는 스마트 시니어의 인지 반응 검사지와 온라인 콘텐츠에서 스마트 시니어가 활동하여 변경된 설정 값을 이용하여 유의미한 인지반응 검사지를 추출하고 인지 반응 검사지 결과를 통해 상세한 맞춤형 UI/UX 콘텐츠를 제공하는 모델을 제안한다.
