Estimation of Undrained Shear Strength Using Piezocone Test (피에조 콘 시험을 이용한 점성토의 비배수 강도 추정)

  • Undrained shear strength of clay deposit is one of the most important properties in the design of geotechnical structures. The use of piezocone test is rapidly growing due to its merit that can measure the in-situ undrained shear strength continuously with less error. The reliability of the shear strength from piezocone test depends upon the cone factor applied. Many researchers have suggested different ranges of values for the factors. This study performs to find out the validity of the suggested values in Korea and their charateristics related to the mechanical properties of clay. Piezocone tests were performed at the site of pilot project of ground improvement at Yangsan-Mulgeum Gyeongnam to investigate the charateristics of piezocone factors. The piezocone fators$(N_{kt}, N_{ke}, N_{\Delta u})$ based on the undrained shear strength from quick triaxial compression test are generally within the suggested range. And there appears considerable relations between undrained shear strength and $(N_{kt}, N_{ke}, N_{\Delta u})$ and between preconsolidation pressure and $(N_{kt}, N_{ke})$, while plasticity index, rigidity index and friction ratio do not show any relations with cone factors. The results also reveal that factor $(N_{\Delta u})$ shows higher reliability than factors $(N_{kt} and N_{ke})$, which show smaller standard deviation, breadth of change and scattering.

Interpretation of Empirical Cone Factors for Determining Undrained Strength (비배수강도 결정을 위한 콘 지수 연구)

  • The results of PCPT(Pezocone Penetration Test) are widely used for the estimation of the undrained shear strength, for which the empirical cone factors($N_{kt}$, $N_{ke}$, $N_{{\Delta}u}$) need to be obtained at each site. In this study, the cone factors were estimated, for the soils at Bookmyun area in Changwon city, using the undrained shear strengths from the unconfined and UU triaxial compression tests. The parametric studies with plastic index and pore water pressure ratio were performed as well. $N_{kt}$, $N_{ke}$ and $N_{{\Delta}u}$ were estimated in the ranges of 8~40, 7~37, and 1~26 respectively. It was observed that there is a relationship between the cone factors, specially $N_{{\Delta}u}$, and the pore pressure ratio.

Study on Correlation between Dynamic Cone Resistance and Shear Strength for Frozen Sand-Silt Mixtures under Low Confining Stress (낮은 구속응력에서 모래-실트 혼합토의 동결강도 평가를 위한 동적 콘 저항력 및 전단강도 상관성 연구)

  • Investigation of in-situ ground in cold region is difficult due to low accessibility and environmental factors. In this study, correlation between dynamic cone resistance and shear strength is suggested to estimate the strength of frozen soils by using instrumented dynamic cone penetrometer. Tests were conducted in freezing chamber after preparing sand-silt mixture with 2.3% water content. Vertical stresses of 5 kPa and 10 kPa were applied during freezing, shearing, and penetration phase to compare the dynamic cone resistance and shear strength. The dynamic cone resistance, additionally, is calculated to minimize the effect of energy loss during hammer impact. Experimental results show that as the shear strength increases, the dynamic cone penetration index (DCPI) decreases nonlinearly, while the dynamic cone resistance increases linearly. This study provides the useful correlation to evaluate strength properties of the frozen soils from the dynamic cone penetration and direct shear tests.

  • 물수지의 불균형으로 발생되는 가뭄은 장기간에 걸쳐 넓은 규모로 발생되는 자연재해로서, 농업 및 산업에 직접 피해와 다양한 상품에 대한 공급 부족으로 인한 가격 상승 등의 간접 피해를 야기하는 재해이다. 이러한 가뭄을 정량적으로 평가하기 위하여 기상 요인(강수, 기온), 농업 요인(식생), 수문 요인(증발산, 토양수분) 등과 같은 설명 변수를 기초로 하는 많은 가뭄지수들이 개발되어 왔다. 대표적인 가뭄지수에는 Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI), Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI), Soil Water Deficit Index (SWDI), Vegetation condition index (VCI), Temperature Condition Index (TCI), Vegetation Health Index (VHI), Scaled Drought Condition Index (SDCI), Integrated Crop Drought Index (ICDI) 등이 있다. 본 연구는 최근 개발된 통합작물가뭄지수(ICDI)를 통해 미국 옥수수의 약 90%를 생산하는 농업지역인 미국 콘벨트의 가뭄 특성을 분석하고자 한다. ICDI는 기상 요인(강우량 및 지표면 온도), 수문학적 요인(잠재 증발산 및 토양수분), 식생 요인(강화식생지수(Enhanced Vegetation Index, EVI))의 조합을 통해 지표면의 건조·습윤 상태 및 식생의 건강 상태를 설명하는 가뭄지수이다. 2004년부터 2019년까지 주요 콘벨트 지역인 일리노이, 인디애나, 아이오와를 대상으로 가뭄분석을 실시하였으며, 옥수수 수확량 아노말리와의 상관성을 분석하였다.

Shear Wave Velocity Estimation of Railway Roadbed Using Dynamic Cone Penetration Index (동적 콘 관입지수를 이용한 철도노반의 전단파속도 추정)

  • Elastic behavior of the railway roadbed which supports the repeating dynamic loads of the train is mainly affected by the shear modulus of the upper roadbed. Therefore, shear wave velocity estimation of the uniformly compacted roadbed can be used to estimate the elastic behavior of the railway roadbed. The objective of this study is to suggest the relationship between the dynamic cone penetration index (DCPI) and the shear wave velocity ($V_s$) of the upper roadbed in order to estimate the shear wave velocity by using the dynamic cone penetration test (DCPT). To ensure the reliability of the relationship, the dynamic cone penetration test and the measurement of the shear wave velocity are conducted on the constructed upper roadbed. As a method for measurement of the shear wave velocity, cross hole is used and then the dynamic cone penetration test is performed at a center point between the source and the receiver of the cross hole. As a result of the correlation of the dynamic cone penetration index and the shear wave velocity at the same depths, the shear wave velocity is estimated as a form of involution of the dynamic cone penetration index with a determinant coefficient above 0.8. The result of this study can be used to estimate both the shear wave velocity and the strength of the railway roadbed using the dynamic cone penetrometer.

A Research for calculation FED of construction material according to conecalorimeter model (콘칼로리미터 화재모델을 적용한 건축 재료의 독성지수산정에 관한 연구)

  • 본 연구에서는 건축물 내장 재료에 대한 연소독성평가와 독성지수연구로써 FT-IR을 이용한 연소가스분석실험을 하였다. 독성지수를 산정하기 위한 실험의 화재모델로 콘 칼로리미터 화재모델(KS F ISO/TR 9122-4)을 사용하였으며 ISO 19702의 절차에 따라 FT-IR을 이용하여 건축 재료의 연소로부터 발생되는 가스의 분석을 수행하였다. 국제규격에서 제시하고 있는 몇 가지 독성지수 산정법 중 ISO 13344에서 규정하는 방법에 따라 FED 값을 산정하였으며, 30분간 시험동물에 노출 시 대상의 50%가 사망하는 농도인 $LC_{50}$을 기준으로 하여 3가지 재료의 독성지수화를 통해 상대적인 독성 위험도를 평가하였다.

A Study on the Toxic Gases and Smoke Hazard of PASCON Trough (파스콘 트로프의 연기유독성에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of the research is to estimate the effect of smoke and combustion gases on humane body indirectly through measuring the toxicity of those. For this purpose, the toxic index of smoke and combustion gases was investigated by smoke hazard test and analysis of smoke which were conducted by KS F 2271 and NES 713 method respectively. It i s proved by KS F 2271 method that PASCON trough is suitable to the testing standard of interior material and construction of building. In addition, it is identified by NES 713 method that combustion gases occurring in PASCON product were only carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, and the smoke index of those was 0.944. This value means that the hazard effect of smoke gases on humane ! body can possibly happens when exposed to the smoke gases for more than 30 min. In aspect of the domestic situation that have not regulated the hazard estimation and the emissions of smoke when the flame retarding ability of the products have been requested, the toxic indexes of PASCON products are comparatively low.

대형 콘 칼로리미터의 신뢰성 구축을 위한 발열량 측정 결과 분석

  • 실규모급 화재 실험의 신뢰성 있는 발열량 측정을 위해서 흡입 배관의 직경 1.6 m, 직선길이 26m, 후드 직경 10 m 그리고 흡입용량 $2,000m^3/min$ 이상의 대형 콘 칼로리미터를 구성하여 헵탄의 화재 크기별 연소 실험을 진행하였다. 발열량 측정을 비교 분석하기 위해서 산소 소모 지수법, 질량 소모법, 복사열 그리고 대류열 측정 기법에 따라서 각각의 발열량을 산출하고 크기를 비교하였다. 그 결과 대형 콘 칼로리미터에 의해서 측정한 산소 소모 지수법은 이론 발열량에 해당하는 질량 소모법과 최대 약 2.3 % 정도, 복사열에 의한 발열량 산출법은 12.2 % 정도, 연소면적에 의한 이상적인 발열량과는 최대 30 % 정도, 그리고 대류열만 고려한 경우 약 50 % 정도 차이가 나는 것을 확인하였다.

Correlation Analysis between Soil Shear Strength Parameters and Cone Index Using Artificial Neural Networks - 1 (인공신경망을 적용한 지반 전단강도정수와 콘지수 사이의 상관관계 분석 1)

  • This study has been undertaken to develop a relationship between the shear strength coefficients and the cone index. The theoretic mathematical equations for the relationship were rigorously investigated, and then a Artificial Neural Network(ANN) analysis was adapted to enhance the reliability of the investigation. The theoretical investigation involved various assumptions resulting in the significant error involvement of geotechnical behaviors of ground. Therefore, a model using the ANN has been learned to enhance the prediction of the cone index form the shear strength parameters. Site investigation reports from various construction fields were used for ANN model learning. The results of the study show that the model predicts the cone index from the shear strength parameters of soils very well. The further study that is undertaking has a potential promise of the generalized prediction technique for the cone index from the soil parameters.
