  • In the field of nuclear medicine, errors are sometimes generated because the assessment of the uniformity of gamma cameras relies on the naked eye of the evaluator. To minimize these errors, we created an artificial intelligence model based on CNN algorithm and wanted to assess its usefulness. We produced 20,000 normal images and partial cold region images using Python, and conducted artificial intelligence training with Resnet18 models. The training results showed that accuracy, specificity and sensitivity were 95.01%, 92.30%, and 97.73%, respectively. According to the results of the evaluation of the confusion matrix of artificial intelligence and expert groups, artificial intelligence was accuracy, specificity and sensitivity of 94.00%, 91.50%, and 96.80%, respectively, and expert groups was accuracy, specificity and sensitivity of 69.00%, 64.00%, and 74.00%, respectively. The results showed that artificial intelligence was better than expert groups. In addition, by checking together with the radiological technologist and AI, errors that may occur during the quality control process can be reduced, providing a better examination environment for patients, providing convenience to radiologists, and improving work efficiency.

  • The research study was conducted for development of the advanced image analysis service system based on deep learning. CNN(Convolutional Neural Network) is built in this system to extract learning data collected from Google and Instagram. The service gets a place image of Jeju as an input and provides relevant location information of it based on its own learning data. Accuracy improvement plans are applied throughout this study. In conclusion, the implemented system shows about 79.2 of prediction accuracy. When the system has plenty of learning data, it is expected to predict various places more accurately.

  • In Korean medicine, tongue diagnosis is one of the important diagnostic methods for diagnosing abnormalities in the body. Representative features that are used in the tongue diagnosis include color, shape, texture, cracks, and tooth marks. When diagnosing a patient through these features, the diagnosis criteria may be different for each oriental medical doctor, and even the same person may have different diagnosis results depending on time and work environment. In order to overcome this problem, recent studies to automate and standardize tongue diagnosis using machine learning are continuing and the basic process of such a machine learning-based tongue diagnosis system is tongue segmentation. In this paper, image data is augmented based on the main tongue features, and backbones of various famous deep learning architecture models are used for automatic tongue segmentation. The experimental results show that the proposed augmentation technique improves the accuracy of tongue segmentation, and that automatic tongue segmentation can be performed with a high accuracy of 99.12%.

  • Sparse-view computed tomography (CT) imaging technique is able to reduce radiation dose, ensure the uniformity of image characteristics among projections and suppress noise. However, the reconstructed images obtained by the sparse-view CT imaging technique suffer from severe artifacts, resulting in the distortion of image quality and internal structures. In this study, we proposed a convolutional neural network (CNN) with wavelet transformation and residual learning for reducing artifacts in sparse-view CT image, and the performance of the trained model was quantitatively analyzed. The CNN consisted of wavelet transformation, convolutional and inverse wavelet transformation layers, and input and output images were configured as sparse-view CT images and residual images, respectively. For training the CNN, the loss function was calculated by using mean squared error (MSE), and the Adam function was used as an optimizer. Result images were obtained by subtracting the residual images, which were predicted by the trained model, from sparse-view CT images. The quantitative accuracy of the result images were measured in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity (SSIM). The results showed that the trained model is able to improve the spatial resolution of the result images as well as reduce artifacts in sparse-view CT images effectively. Also, the trained model increased the PSNR and SSIM by 8.18% and 19.71% in comparison to the imaging model trained without wavelet transformation and residual learning, respectively. Therefore, the imaging model proposed in this study can restore the image quality of sparse-view CT image by reducing artifacts, improving spatial resolution and quantitative accuracy.

  • Objectives Sasang constitutional medicine is a traditional Korean medicine that classifies humans into four constitutions in consideration of individual differences in physical, psychological, and physiological characteristics. In this paper, we proposed a method to classify Taeeum person (TE) and Non-Taeeum person (NTE), Soeum person (SE) and Non-Soeum person (NSE), and Soyang person (ST) and Non-Soyang person (NSY) using a convolutional neural network with only facial images. Methods Based on the convolutional neural network VGG16 architecture, transfer learning is carried out on the facial images of 3738 subjects to classify TE and NTE, SE and NSE, and SY and NSY. Data augmentation techniques are used to increase classification performance. Results The classification performance of TE and NTE, SE and NSE, and SY and NSY was 77.24%, 85.17%, and 80.18% by F1 score and 80.02%, 85.96%, and 72.76% by Precision-Recall AUC (Area Under the receiver operating characteristic Curve) respectively. Conclusions It was found that Soeum person had the most heterogeneous facial features as it had the best classification performance compared to the rest of the constitution, followed by Taeeum person and Soyang person. The experimental results showed that there is a possibility to classify constitutions only with facial images. The performance is expected to increase with additional data such as BMI or personality questionnaire.
