Flow Characteristics of Mass Flow Amplifier with Various Geometrical Configurations (질량유량 증폭기 형상변화에 따른 유동 특성 연구)

  • Mass flow amplifier, which is an aerodynamic device, makes air flow increased by ejecting small amount of compressed air with $Coand{\breve{a}}$ effect. In this study, the flow characteristics of a mass flow amplifier were studied with various flow conditions and geometrical configurations. In order to improve the performance of mass flow amplifier, various values of clearance, diffuser angle and the aspect ratio of induced flow inlet to outlet were considered as design parameter. Furthermore, four different pressure conditions of compressed air were also considered. Numerical study was performed using the commercial CFD code, ANSYS CFX 14.5 with shear stress transport(SST) turbulent model. The results of pressure and velocity distributions were graphically depicted with different geometrical configurations and operating conditions.

High Efficiency Fuel Cell System with Air Amplifier using Waste Heat (배열이용 공기증폭기를 활용한 고효율 연료전지 시스템)

  • 지금까지 연료전지 시스템의 효율을 극대화시키기 위한 기술들이 개발되어 왔는데, 대표적인 방법은 CHP(Combined Heat & power)와 FCT(Fuel cell & Turbine) Hybrid 시스템이다. 그러나 본 연구의 기술은 연료전지 배열을 이용한 Coanda 공기증폭기를 장착한 새로운 개념의 고효율 연료전지 시스템이다. 원래 공기 증폭기는 완만한 곡면 주위를 흐르는 유체가 곡면의 표면을 따라 흐름의 방향이 바뀌는 원리(Coanda Effect)를 이용한 장치로서, 소량의 고압유체를 구동 에너지원으로 사용하여 최고 20배에 해당하는 많은 양의 주변 유체를 빠른 속도로 이송시키는 역할을 한다. 문제는 고압의 유체원을 만드는 것인데, 본 연구에서는 발전용 연료전지 시스템의 배기가스를 활용하여 먼저 고압의 수증기를 발생시키고, 다음으로 고압의 수증기를 공기 증폭기의 구동원으로 사용함으로써 연료전지 시스템의 Air blower를 대체하는 것이다. 이러한 개념을 검증하기 위해서 고압의 스팀작동 Coanda 공기증폭기를 제작하여 선행실험을 진행하였다. 먼저 공기증폭기의 Gap 및 스팀압력에 따른 공기유량, 압력 등의 기본특성을 조사하였고, 출력 공기의 특성을 개선하기 공기증폭기의 형상 및 재료를 새롭게 설계하였다. 그리고 실제 시스템의 적용가능성을 알아보기 위해서, 예로 300kW급 용융탄산염 연료전지 발전시스템의 Air blower 대체가능성을 확인하였고, 배열이용 Coanda 공기증폭기를 활용한 고효율 연료전지 시스템의 개념설계를 수립하였다. 결론적으로 본 기술을 활용하면 연료전지 시스템의 최종 전기효율을 향상시킬 뿐 아니라는 시스템의 장기 신뢰성을 증대시키는 효과를 기대할 수 있다.

The Effect of Convergent Nozzle Angle on a Spiral Jet Flow (스파이럴 제트 유동에 미치는 축소노즐 각도의 영향)

  • In general the swirl jet is generated by the injected flow that is forced to the tangential direction. A spiral nozzle which is composed of an annular slit and a convergent nozzle, is released the spiral jet that is generated by the radial flow injection through an annular slit. The objective of the present study is to investigate the additional study that is studied a changed the convergent nozzle angle and nozzle length. In the present computation, a finite volume scheme is used to solve three dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model. The convergent nozzle angle and the nozzle length of the spiral nozzle are varied to obtain different spiral flows inside the conical convergent nozzle. The present computational results are compared with the previous experimental data. The results obtained show that the convergent nozzle angle and the nozzle length of the spiral jet strongly influence the characteristics of the spiral jets, such as a tangential and a jet width.

  • An experimental study has been conducted to determine the effects of inclined impinging jet on the local heat transfer coefficients. A single jet with nozzle diameter of 24.6 mm was tested for Reynolds numbers from 10,000 to 70,000 and nozzle-to-plate spacings of 2~6 jet diameters. The angle of inclination of the impingement surface relative to the horizontal surface was varied from $0^{\cire}$ (normal impingement) to $60^{\cire}$. The results indicate that the point of maximum heat transfer is moved up from the geometrical stagnation point of inclined surface by Coanda effect. The local heat transfer coefficients on the minor jet region decrease more rapidly than on the major jet region, thus creating an imbalance in the cooling capabilities on the two sides.

Performance Improvement of a Scroll Compressor by Heat Transfer Analysis (열전달 해석을 통한 스크롤 압축기 성능 개선)

  • Numerical analysis using three dimensional finite volume method for the discretization, adaptive grid method for the numerical accuracy, multiple rotating frame method for the rotating body and the standard $k-{\epsilon}$ model for the turbulent flow was performed to understand the heat transfer phenomena and to improve the efficiency of the scroll compressor. The temperature measurement was carried out under ARI condition. It was found that the fluid temperature in the compressor was predicted accurately while the temperature of the motor coil showed large discrepancy between the calculation and experiment due to the large anisotropy of the conductivity and non homogeneity. We found that the efficiency of the compressor depends on the inlet temperature of the compressing part and the flow pattern around the inlet region of the compressing part influences the inlet temperature due to high surface temperature of the main frame. The efficiency of the compressor using Coanda effect is higher than the previous one because the smooth suction at the inlet region of the compressing part leads to low heat transfer to the refrigerant of the compressor.

  • Spiral jet is characterized by a wide region of the free vortex flow with a steep axial velocity gradient, while swirl jet is largely governed by the forced vortex flow and has a very low axial velocity at the jet axis. However, detailed generation mechanism of spiral flow components is not well understood, although the spiral jet is extensively applied in a variety of industrial field. In general, it is known that spiral jet is generated by the radial flow injection through an annular slit which is installed at the inlet of convergent nozzle. The objective of the present study is to understand the flow characteristics of the spiral jet, using a computational method. A finite volume scheme is used to solve 3-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model. The computational results are validated by the previous experimental data. It is found that the spiral jet is generated by coanda effect at the inlet of the convergent nozzle and its fundamental features are dependent the pressure ratio of the radial flow through the annular slit and the coanda wall curvature.

  • Experimental study for supersonic co-flowing fluidic thrust vectoring control utilizing the secondary flow is performed. The characteristics of the thrust vectoring of two dimensional supersonic flow (Mach 2.0) are studied by Schlieren flow visualization and highly-accurate multi-component force measurements using the load cells. It is observed that the thrust deflection angle initially decreases and increases again forming a V-shaped variation as the pressure of the secondary flow increases. Characteristics of the performance coefficients of the system are also studied, and the detailed operating conditions for higher performance of the technique are suggested.

Heat transfer and flow characteristics of sweeping jet issued from rectangular nozzle with thin plate (박판이 부착된 사각노즐에서 분사되는 Sweeping jet의 유동 및 열전달 특성)

  • This study investigated heat transfer and flow characteristics of a sweeping jet issued from a rectangular nozzle with a thin plate. A thin vertical aluminum plate was attached on outlet of fluidic oscillator to increase velocity of central area with Coanda effect and enhance heat transfer performance. From visualization and PIV experiments, sweeping jet with a thin plate has larger velocity distribution in center region than that of the normal sweeping jet while oscillating frequency is similar as the normal one. Thermographic phosphor thermometry method was used to visualize the temperature field and Nu distribution of plate with impinging sweeping jet with thin plate. Four Reynolds numbers and three jet-to-wall distances were selected as parameters. It is found that heat transfer performance in the low jet-to-wall spacing was enhanced as the cooled area was expanded. However, when the jet-to-wall spacing became greater than 8dh, heat transfer performance became similar due to reduced impinging velocity.

Thrust Vectoring Control of Supersonic Jet Using Proportional Control Valves (비례제어밸브를 이용한 초음속 제트의 추력편향 제어)

  • An experimental study is performed to observe the characteristics of the thrust vectoring control (TVC) of the supersonic jet using proportional control valves. It is observed that three different TVC characteristics exist as the nozzle pressure ratio varies. Strong hysteresis phenomena are also observed during the valve control for a certain range of the nozzle pressure ratio. It is also noticed that the secondary chamber pressure is one of the influencing parameters for the TVC. Therefore, a control algorithm utilizing the secondary chamber pressure coefficient as a predictor is applied to achieve the stable TVC avoiding the hysteresis. Consequently, the stable TVC with the maximum deflection angle of about 20-degree has been realized using the proportional control valves.
