  • As computer Programs for cephalometric analysis were developed in diagnosis & treatment planning, digital imaging of film-based cephalograms came to be needed. When a digital camera is used, a problem encountered the image distortion produced according to the focal length, which causes errors in indentifying landmarks. In addition, changes in the image size and compression ratio will inevitably produce a low quality image, causing errors in identifying landmarks. Hence. we have found the focal length producing the least image distortion when digital imaging the film-based cephalograms and the minimal digital camera setting which helps to identify the correct landmarks using the COOLPIX4500 digital camera (Nikon, Japan). The results were as follows The image distortion was minimized at a focal length of 16.4mm (79.4mm when converted into a 35mm film camera) when digital imaging the film-based cephalograms. When wide imaging, with a focal length of under IS.4mm, barrel distortion was found and when tole imaging. with a focal length of over 15.4mm pincushion distortion was found. The minimal digital camera setting was $2272{\times}1704$ pixel at normal (1/8) compression from which we can identify the correct landmarks at the same level as tracing the film-based cephalograms manually. As a result. when digital imaging the film-based cephalograms, using a COOLPIX4500 digital camera (Nikon, Japan), the focal length should be 16.4mm the pixel image size over $2272{\times}1704$, and the compression ratio over normal (1/8).

  • Image reconstruction is one of the most important processes in CT (Computed tomography) technology. For fast scanning and low dose to the objects, iterative reconstruction is becoming more and more important. In the implementation of iterative reconstruction, projection and backprojection processes are considered to be indispensable parts. However, many approaches for projection and backprojection may result severe image artifacts due to their discrete characteristics and affects the reconstructed image quality. Thus, new approaches for projection and backprojection are highly demanded these days. In this paper, distance-driven approach was evaluated and compared with other conventional methods. The numerical simulator was developed to make the phantoms, and projection and backprojection images were compared using these approaches. As a result, it turned out that there are less artifacts during projection and backprojection in parallel and fan beam geometry.

  • Digital Mammography makes it possible to reproduce the entire breast image. And it is used to detect microcalcification and mass which are the most important point of view of nonpalpable early breast cancer, so it has been used as the primary screening test of breast disease. It is reported that microcalcification of breast lesion is important in diagnosis of early breast cancer. In this study, six types of texture features algorithms are used to detect microcalcification on breast US images and the study has analyzed recognition rate of lesion between normal US images and other US images which microcalification is seen. As a result of the experiment, Computer aided diagnosis recognition rate that distinguishes mammography and breast US disease was considerably high 70~98%. The average contrast and entropy parameters were low in ROC analysis, but sensitivity and specificity of four types parameters were over 90%. Therefore it is possible to detect microcalcification on US images. If not only six types of texture features algorithms but also the research of additional parameter algorithm is being continually proceeded and basis of practical use on CAD is being prepared, it can be a important meaning as pre-reading. Also, it is considered very useful things for early diagnosis of breast cancer.

  • This study aimed to propose an accurate diagnostic method for osteoporosis by realizing a computer-aided diagnosis system with the application of the statistical analysis of texture features using digital images of lateral lumbar spine of patients with osteoporosis and providing reliable supplementary diagnostic information by model experimental research for early diagnosis of diseases. For these purposes, digital images of lateral lumbar spine of normal individuals and patients with osteoporosis were used in the experiments, and the values of statistical texture features on the set ROI were expressed in six parameters. Among the texture feature values of the six parameters of osteoporosis, the highest and lowest recognition rates of 95 and 80% were shown in average gray level and uniformity, respectively. Moreover, all the six parameters showed recognition rates of over 80% for osteoporosis: 82.5% in average contrast, 90% in smoothness, 87.5% in skewness, and 87.5% in entropy. Therefore, if a program developing into a computer-aided diagnosis system for medical images is coded based on the results of this study, it is considered possible to be applied to preliminary diagnostic data for automatic detection of lesions and disease diagnosis using medical images, to provide information for definite diagnosis of diseases, to diagnose by limited device, and to be used to shorten the time to analyze medical images.

  • Three Yorkshire Terriers (12-year-old, 13-year-old, and 15-year-old castrated males) with respiratory distress, coughing and anorexia were the subjects of this report. In laboratory examinations, there were no remarkable findings. However, the thoracic radiographic findings included a large mass of soft tissue density in the cardiac base region, tracheal elevation, and aortic bulging in all three Yorkshire Terriers. There were no remarkable findings in the abdominal radiographs. In echocardiography, a homogeneous hyperechoic mass around the aorta and bicuspid valve regurgitation were found in all three dogs. There were no remarkable findings in abdominal ultrasonography. Computed tomographic findings showed a large well -defined heterogeneous mass in the cranial vena cava, which was dominant in the left side in all three Yorkshire Terriers. The mass sizes were about $3{\times}4cm$. In post-contrast scanning, contrast enhancement was evident. These cases were diagnosed as heart-base tumor. Treatments provided to the three dogs were based on symptomatic medical management of cardiac failure and tracheal collapse. Case 1 (12-year-old) survived for 3 months, case 2 (13-year-old) for 5 months, and case 3 (15-year-old) for 32 months after the diagnosis. Our results show that the clinical findings, thoracic radiography, echocardiography, computed tomography (CT) and symptomatic medical management in dogs suspected to have heart base tumor.

  • The purpose of this study was to measure contrast to noise ratio (CNR) and signal to noise ratio (SNR) according to change of reconstruction from region of interest (ROI) in breast positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT), and to analyze the CNR and SNR statically. We examined images of breast PET-CT of 100 patients in a University-affiliated hospital, Seoul, Korea. Each patient's image of breast PET-CT were calculated by using ImageJ. Differences of CNR and SNR among four reconstruction algorithms were tested by SPSS Statistics21 ANOVA test for there was statistical significance (p<0.05). We have analysis socio-demographical variables, CNR and SNR according to reconstruction images, 95% confidence according to CNR and SNR of reconstruction and difference in a mean of CNR and SNR. SNR results, with the quality of distributions in the order of PSF_TOF, Iterative and Iterative-TOF, FBP-TOF. CNR, with the quality of distributions in the order of PSF_TOF, Iterative and Iterative-TOF, FBP-TOF. CNR and SNR of PET-CT reconstruction methods of the breast would be useful to evaluate breast diseases.

  • In this study we proposed a texture feature analysis algorithm that distinguishes between a normal image and a diseased image using CT images of some fatty liver patients, and generates both Eigen images and test images which can be applied to the proposed computer aided diagnosis system in order to perform a quantitative analysis for 6 parameters. And through the analysis, we derived and evaluated the recognition rate of CT images of fatty liver. As the results of examining over 30 example CT images of fatty liver, the recognition rates representing a specific texture feature-value are as follows: some appeared to be as high as 100% including Average Gray Level, Entropy 96.67%, Skewness 93.33%, and Smoothness while others showed a little low disease recognition rate: 83.33% for Uniformity 86.67% and for Average Contrast 80%. Consequently, based on this research result, if a software that enables a computer aided diagnosis system for medical images is developed, it will lead to the availability for the automatic detection of a diseased spot in CT images of fatty liver and quantitative analysis. And they can be used as computer aided diagnosis data, resulting in the increased accuracy and the shortened time in the stage of final reading.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of reducing noise and streaking artefacts by applying the Boost3D algorithm in the case of noise and streaking artifacts generated during computed tomography of the shoulder joint. A phantom study using a thoracic phantom including shoulder joint and clinical evaluation were conducted through shoulder joint images of 35 patients who underwent computed tomography of the shoulder joint from September 2020 to October 2020. The evaluation was divided into groups before and after the application of the Boost3D algorithm, and the noise values, signal to noise ratio, and mean to standard deviation ratio values were analyzed. Both noise values and mean to standard deviation ratio values analyzed in phantom image evaluation and clinical image evaluation were statistically significantly lower in the group after Boost3D was applied (p<0.05). Through this study, it was found that noise and streak artifacts were reduced through the application of Boost3D, and the mean to standard deviation ratio was high, which can be judged as an excellent image. If the Boost3D algorithm is used for computed tomography of the shoulder joint, it is thought that excellent images can be obtained with reduced noise and streaking artifacts that may occur in the shoulder joint area.

  • The radiosurgery is planned that prescribed dose was irradiated to tumor for obtaining expected remedial value in stereotactic radiosurgery. The planning for many irregular tumor shape requires long computation time and skilled planners. Due to the rapid development in computer power recently, many optimization methods using computer has been proposed, although the practical method is still trial and error type of plan. In this study, many beam variables were considered and many tumor shapes were assumed cylinderical ideal models. Then, beam variables that covered the target within 50% isodose curve were searched, the result was compared and analysed. The beam variables considered were isocenter separation distance, number of isocenters and collimator size. Dose distributions obtained with these variables were analysed by dose volume histogram(DVH) and dose profile at orthogonal plane. According to the results compared, the use of more isocenters than specified isocenter dosen't improve DVH and dose profile but only increases complexity of plan. The best result of DVH and dose profile are obtainedwhen isocenter separation was 1.0-1.2 in using same number of isocenter.
