The aim of this study was to assess the social impact of the cultural programs of the children's libraries in Korea and further present the libraries'social value. To this end, we have conducted a survey on 511 elementary school students to assess the social impact of the children libraries'cultural programs. As a consequence, we have ascertained the children's expressiveness / creativity within their personal realms, self-esteem, pleasure / joy / happiness as well as their attitude towards cultural arts and changes in the cultural and artistic experiences further to growth in friendship as a matter of social interaction, generation and strengthening of local communities, sense of affiliation with local community / identify, and local community participation, among the manifestations of the social impact concerned. Based on this, children's libraries can be regarded as an important social capital of the community in the following aspects. Children's libraries enhance the quality of life and children's interaction skills. It also make them feel attached to the local community. Children's libraries maintain local communities, contribute to the creation and strengthening of local communities, and encourage participation in local activities.

Libraries are one of the essential living infrastructures in urban regeneration. Beyond its meaning as a basic living infrastructure, it is necessary to first understand the role, nature and forms of participation in existing urban regeneration projects in order for libraries to perform their functions and roles effectively as participants of urban regeneration. Therefore, this study investigates the contents related to libraries in the contents of the strategic plan related to urban regeneration projects, and considers them in terms of the role of the library and the form of participation. Through this, the city's library would seek to maximize its role and function as a participant in urban regeneration. As a result, the library in urban regeneration is expected to improve the quality of living environment, Urban vitality, culturally, educationally, socially/welfare role closely related to life, and the role of community as a hub. In addition, the types of library participation could be largely divided into regional and geographical libraries, hybrid libraries combined with various services, libraries based on community cooperation and linkage, and regional community hub libraries based on community participation. In the future, the library needs to promote a more active role change based on the five roles expected as participants in urban regeneration. In addition, more detailed discussions on librarians, services, and programs, which are the main subjects of library services, will be needed in developing urban regeneration plans in order for libraries to successfully fulfill their role as urban regeneration centers.

This study determined the communicative characteristics of public libraries through locality, communality, interactivity, and organism and sought to measure the validity of their components to define the role of libraries based on the analysis. According to the analysis results, there are four communicative characteristics of public libraries: locality, communality, interactivity, and organism. This study defined the role of public libraries according to communicative characteristics. First, libraries should encourage the formation of a healthy society by providing a space for diverse community activities, contributing to the building and strengthening of their local communities, and offering the necessary information to do so. Second, libraries should contribute to the formation of local cultural communities and strengthen interpersonal relations among community members to reinforce a sense of community, while also supporting the heightening of social adaptability to foster a sense of belonging and community activity participation among members. Third, libraries act as a space for sharing ideas between generations, provide a space to carry out leisure activities, and enable the cultural prosperity of local communities. Lastly, as a representative space of local communities, libraries raise the value of the residential environment and contribute to their communities and members.

Academic libraries have been facing threats and opportunities at the same time because of a successful combination of information and communication technologies such as the internet. This study presented the need for library development in academic libraries, to assist with increasing costs and declining budgets and fulfilling users' expectations of additional information services. It suggested as a guide for library development of academic libraries in Korea through providing examples of various methods and cases for library development. As a result of research, this study provided the basic ideas of academic library development, which includes forming a community of friends of library and developing fundraising and fee-based information services.

Neutinamu Library in Suji, Yongin, has been serving as a hub for local communities since its opening in 2000. In 2003, Neutinamu Library Foundation was established for the development of library culture, continuing the wave of the library movement in the third sector and carrying out cooperative projects with various institutions. Through these exchanges and activities, numerous records and materials were produced and collected at the library. In 2012 and 2013, Neutinamu Library Archive was built so that the records that have been collected could be utilized. As such, this article will introduce and discuss the processes in the creation and management of Neutinamu Library Archive.

In this research, the first the characteristics of community-oriented vocabulary are investigated with preceding researches which are ULIS-DL and Digital Okayama Dai-Hyakka(DODH). The second this paper proposes a few mapping schemes to connect community directories and compares them by applying them to the resource directories of three local governments Tokyo and Hokkaido in Japan and Chungcheongnam-do in Korea. The mapping schemes use National Diet Library Subject Heading(NDLSH) and/or Nippon Decimal Classification(NDC) as a switching language. Evaluation of the proposed schemes shows their advantages and limitations.

The purpose of this study was to propose the expansion plan of outreach services at public libraries. This study explored the nature of outreach services of public libraries. It also compared the types and cases of services conducted by public libraries in Korea and the U.S.A., respectively, through literature research and library websites. The following were proposed: (1) diversity of outreach service; (2) quality improvement of outreach service; (3) consolidation of online outreach service; and (4) human and financial resources, and community partnership.

The purpose of this study for coming up with vitalization methods of small libraries by attracting corporate donations, in order to overcome inferior financial circumstances of small libraries in daily life that play a role community centers in regional communities. For this, a frequency analysis was conducted in order to examine various circumstances and cognitions regarding library donations from 100 corporations that made donations during the past year. Also, a cross-tabulation analysis was studied to identify factors that influence donations.

In this study, the current status of digital humanities(DH) research support guide service, which is increasing recently in research-oriented academic libraries in the United States, was analyzed by comparing the contents provided by each institution's Website. Based on the ranking of research-focused academic libraries with the largest volume of books in North America as of 2018-19 in Association of Research Libraries(ARL) statistics, the service contents of 30 institutions providing DH research support guide service were analyzed. The criteria for analysis are 8 components of services presented in previous studies: (1) tools and technology, (2) funding, (3) community, (4) pedagogy, (5) projects, (6) resources, (7) publications and consultations, and (8) workshops and training. As a result of the analysis, it was found that most of the institutions operating the DH research support guide service provided 'DH resources', and more than half of the institutions were providing 'DH tools and technology' and 'DH community' information. In addition, most institutions are operating the DH research support guide service in cooperation with the library itself, on-campus research institutes and centers, or other departments for DH publication and project consultation, so they focused on research support information services through consulting. In the future, discussions on the DH research support guide service operation plan of domestic academic libraries and the competency of service personnel should be continued.

While small libraries have steadily increased in quantity, parts of qualitative growth such as lack of manpower and poor operation have been pointed out as problems. Accordingly, with the aim of establishing a foundation for linkage and cooperation between public libraries and small libraries, the small library itinerant librarians project has been promoted since 2010, and its scale has been continuously expanding. However, the lack of manpower and poor operation still remain tasks to be solved, and the poor treatment and job environment of itinerant librarians have not improved. In this context, this study aims to examine the problems of small libraries and job problems experienced by itinerant librarians and to find ways to improve the job environment of itinerant librarians based on this. Through the analysis of previous studies, small libraries and net companies were investigated, and in-depth interviews were conducted with participants related to itinerant librarians and small libraries. Through interview data analysis, a total of 17 meaning topics were extracted, including 'lack of work authority', 'lack of work manual', 'lack of communication, community', 'lack of integrated operating system', 'poor treatment and working environment', 'malicious user', and 'lack of belonging'. Based on this, four improvement measures were proposed, including the improvement of the job authority and standard regulations of itinerant librarians, the establishment of a community organization, job security guarantees, and job education reinforcement.
