A Caching Strategy Considering Data Popularity in Pull-Based Data Broadcast Systems (풀 기반 데이타 방송 시스템에서의 데이타 인기도를 고려한 캐싱 전략)

  • A caching is a useful technique to alleviate performance degradation due to the inherent narrow bandwidth by reducing contention of broadcast requests. In this paper, we propose a caching strategy for pull-based data broadcast system which considers data popularity among clients. In addition, the proposed strategy also reflects recentness of data access based on data broadcast version. Then, we evaluate the performance of proposed strategy through a simulation approach. According to the results, the strategy considering both hit ratio and miss cost shows better performance than the traditional LRU. In addition, the strategy considering data popularity among clients shows better performance in some cases.

  • 데이터베이스 공유 시스템에서는 동일한 페이지가 여러 처리노드에 의해 동시에 캐싱 될 수 있으므로, 각 처리노드가 항상 최신의 내용을 참조하기 위해서는 캐싱 된 데이 터의 일관성이 유지되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 로킹 오버헤드를 줄이기 위해 주사본 권한 을 이용하여 데이터베이스를 논리적으로 분할한 데이터베이스 공유 시스템 환경에서 필요한 캐쉬 일관성 기법들을 제안한다. 제안한 기법들인 DPCA_P와 DPCA_U는 PCA를 동적으로 할당하여 캐쉬 일관성을 위해 소요되는 메시지 전송량과 디스크 입출력 오버헤드를 줄임으 로써 성능을 향상시키며, 데이터베이스 부하가 동적으로 변하는 경우에도 효율적으로 동작 한다는 장점을 갖는다.

Proactive Caching Strategy Based on Optimal Content Distribution in Content Centric Vehicular Networks (차량 네트워크에서 최적의 컨텐츠 분배 기반의 사전 캐싱 방안)

  • In vehicular communications environment, content pre-caching can reduce the delay time from the user to the content server. However, the problem of where and how much pre-caching is still not solved. In this paper, based on the movement probability of the vehicle, we propose a method for pre-caching by distributing the optimized amount of content to each base station candidate that the vehicle will move as follows. First, the movement probability of each vehicle was learned using Markov Model. And the amount of content to be distributed and pre-cached was optimized based on the wireless environment. In experiments based on NS-3, the proposed strategy maintained the least delay compared to the existing protocol, leading to the most traffic-saving results.

  • The recent dissemination of cloud computing makes the amount of data storage to be increased and the cost of storing the data grow rapidly. Accordingly, data and service requests from users also increases the load on the cloud storage. There have been many works that tries to provide low-cost and high-performance schemes on distributed file systems. However, most of them have some weaknesses on performing parallel and random data accesses as well as data accesses of frequent small workloads. Recently, improving the performance of distributed file system based on caching technology is getting much attention. In this paper, we propose a CHPC(Cloud storage High-Performance Caching) framework, providing parallel caching, distributed caching, and proxy caching in distributed file systems. This study compares the proposed framework with existing cloud systems in regard to the reduction of the server's disk I/O, prevention of the server-side bottleneck, deduplication of the page caches in each client, and improvement of overall IOPS. As a results, we show some optimization possibilities on the cloud storage systems based on some evaluations and comparisons with other conventional methods.

Performance of Caching Strategies using Clients' Request Information in Data Broadcast Systems (데이타 방송 시스템에서 클라이언트의 요구정보를 이용한 캐싱 전략들의 성능)

  • A data broadcast is an efficient technique to deliver data to a number of clients in wireless computing environments. In data broadcast systems, which generally have a narrow bandwidth, a caching is introduced to reduce contention for the bandwidth so that the response time can be decreased. In this paper, unlike previous works that use information maintained by clients, we propose several caching strategies using information on data requests of clients maintained by a server. Then, we evaluate the performance of proposed strategies by using simulation approach. According to the results, the strategy that considers both popularity and waiting time maintained by a server generally shows better performance than other strategies.

  • 본 논문은 P2P 네트워크 환경에서 대규모 VOD 시스템을 위한 새로운 시간 기반 캐싱 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 캐싱 기법은 각 피어들이 요구 시작 시간을 기준으로 비디오의 서로 다른 부분을 분산 저장 관리함으로써 피어의 저장 용량을 최소화하고, 피어간 데이터 요구에 대한 캐시 적중률을 향상시켜 서버의 부하를 최소화 한다. 또한 요구 시간을 기준으로 인접한 피어들을 하나의 클러스터로 그룹핑하여 피어의 탐색 법위를 최소화하고, 이에 따른 네트워크 트래픽을 최소화 한다. 시뮬레이션을 통한 성능 평가에서 피어의 참여와 탈퇴 중가에 따른 서버 부하의 증가가 기존의 P2VOD와 비교하여 크게 감소함을 보인다.

  • Recently, CCN(Content Centric Network) has been extensively interested in the literature to transfer data traffic efficiently according to the rapid growth of multimedia services on the Internet. CCN is a new networking paradigm to deliver contents efficiently based on the named content not the named or addressed host. This paper presents a mathematical approach for analyzing CCN-caching systems with two routers. Considering the stochastic characteristics of communication networks, the caching system is modeled as a two dimensional Markov chain. This paper analyzes the structural feature of the transition rate matrix in the Markov chain and presents a numerical solution for the CCN-caching performance of the two router system. In addition, various numerical examples are presented.

Edge Caching Strategy with User Mobility in Heterogeneous Cellular Network Environments (이종 셀룰러 네트워크 환경에서 사용자 이동성을 고려한 엣지 캐싱 기법)

  • As the use of mobile data increases, the proportion of video content is increasing steeply. In order to solve problems that arise when mobile users receive data from geographically remote cloud servers, methods of caching data in advance to edge servers geographically close to the users are attracting lots of attention. In this paper, we present a caching policy that stores data on Small Cell Base Station(SBS) to effectively provide content files to mobile users by applying a delayed offloading scheme in a cellular network. The goal of the proposed policy is to minimize the size of data transmitted from Macro Base Station(MBS) because the delayed offloading scheme requires more cost than when downloaded from MBS than from SBS. The caching policy is proposed to determine the size of content file and which content file to be cached to SBS using the probability of mobile users' paths and the popularity of content files, and to replace content files in consideration of the overlapping coverage of SBS. In addition, through performance evaluation, it has been proven that the proposed policy reduces the size of data downloaded from MBS compared to other algorithms.

  • 데이터베이스 공유 시스템(Database Sharing System: DSS)은 고성능 트랜잭션 처리를 위해 다수 개의 컴퓨터를 연동하는 방식으로, 각 노드들은 디스크 계층에서 데이터베이스를 공유한다. DSS에서 각 노드는 빈번한 디스크 액세스를 피하기 위해 최근에 액세스한 데이터 페이지와 인덱스 페이지들을 자신의 지역 메모리 버퍼에 캐싱한다. 이때 노드가 항상 최신의 페이지를 사용할 수 있기 위해서는 지역 버퍼에 캐싱된 페이지들의 일관성을 지원하여야 한다. 본 논문에서는 데이터 페이지에 비해 빈번히 엑세스되는 인덱스 페이지의 정확성을 보장할 수 있는 캐쉬 일관성 제어 기법을 제안한다.

  • To introduce the cache in a client is one of the methods to migrate the performance degradation of broadcast systems doe to the inherent restrictions of wireless communication environments such as low bandwidth or frequent disconnections. In this paper, we propose a pull-based broadcast strategy in hybrid-based data broadcast systems using bit vectors in order to effectively broadcast data recently requested by clients. Then, we propose a caching strategy considering the characteristics of data broadcast algorithm and then evaluate the performance of the system. According to the result of evaluation, the system employing the proposed strategies shows the better performance in terms of response time.
