  • 국내 최대 규모의 캐릭터 전시회인‘서울 캐릭터페어 2004’가 15일부터 19일까지 코엑스 대서양홀 전관에서 열렸다. 한국문화콘텐츠진흥원, 한국디자인진흥원, 서울산업진흥재단이 공동주최하고 한국캐릭터문화산업협회, 캐릭터디자이너협회, 한국캐릭터협회가 공동주관하며 문화관광부와 산업자원부, 서울시가 공동 후원했다. ‘서울 캐릭터페어 2004’는 행사의 중심인 캐릭터전시회와 함께 국제 라이선스 전문가 세미나, 비즈니스 상담회, 네트워킹 행사도 함께 진행됐다.

Longitudinal Analysis to Regional LQ Index Competitiveness of Character Culture Contents Industry (캐릭터 문화콘텐츠 산업의 권역별 입지 경쟁력 분석에 대한 종단적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the status and the competitiveness improvement of character industry comparing to relative LQ index of the no. of character company, the no. of employee and the amount of revenue of 2007, 2009, and 2010 between including Metro area and regional blocks(kangwon, chungchung, daekung, honam, dongnam and jeju region). The results of this research are as follows. In case whole regional analysis, no. of employee and no. of character company suggested jeju, dongnam and Metro have high competitiveness during the 3 years and amount of revenue suggested consistent high competitiveness 6 block except Metro. But in case of except of Metro, no. of character company and the no. of employee indicated dongnam and jeju showed competitiveness during 3 years. Chungchung area indicated high competitiveness at no. of employee(2009) and no. of character company(2011). The amount of revenue indicated jeju area have high competitiveness during 3 years.

  • 국산 캐릭터업체 10개 업체중 4곳이 불법복제로 골머리를 앓고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 문화관광부와 한국문화콘텐츠진흥원이 발간한‘대 한민국 캐릭터산업백서 2004’에 따르면 캐릭터업체 42.3%가 불법복제에 피해를 불법복제 피해경험이 있다고 응답했다. 매출액별 불법 복제 피해 경험으론 매출액 5억원 미만 업체는 38.3%, 5억,50억원 업체 37.5%, 50억원 이상 업체 65.2%로 인기 캐릭터를 중심으 로 한 불법복제현상이 뚜렷한 것으로 나타났다. 불법복제로 인한 추정 피해액으로는 국산 업체당 4억1,320만원인 것으로 조사됐다. 이처 럼 캐릭터로 인한 피해가 국내에도 크게 늘고 있어 심각한 산업 문제로 대두되고 있다. 이에 이번 호에는 디지털콘텐츠 산업 중에서도 온 라인을 통해 유출되고 있는‘캐릭터’를 중심으로 법적 문제를 다루고자 한다.

  • Character industry is not only knowledge-based industry chiefly with copyrights but also motive power for creative economy to take a role functionally over the fields of industries because it has industrial characteristic as complement product to promote sale value in manufacturing industry and service industry and increase profit on sales. Since 2003, the national policy related to character has aimed to maximize effect among connected industries, extend its business abroad, enforce copyrights through the improvement of marketing system, develop industrial infrastructure through raising quality of character products. With the result of this policy, the successful cases of connected contents have been crystallized and domestic character industry has stepped up methodically since 2007. It is needed to reset the scales of character industry and industrial stats because there are more know-how of self industry promotion and more related characters through strategy of market departmentalization starting with cartoon, animation, games, novels, movies and musicals. Especially, The Korea government set our target for 'Global Top Five Character Power' since 2009 and has started to carry out to find global star characters, support to establish network among connected industries, diversify promotion channels, and develop licensing business. Particularly, since 2013, There have been prospered the indoor character theme park with time management just like character experimental marketing or Kids cafes using characters, the demand market of digital character focusing on SNS emoticon, and the performance market for character musical consistently. Moreover, The domestic and foreign illegal black markets on off-line have been enlarged, so we need another policy alternative. To prepare for the era of exploding character demand market and diversifying platform, it is needed to set up a solid strategy that is required the elements of policy changes in character industry to vitalize character industry and support new character design and connected contents. the following shows that the elements of policy changes related to the existing policy, the current position of market. Nowadays, the elements of policy changes in domestic character industry are that variety of consumers in the digital character market according to platform diversification, Convergence contents of character goods for the Korean waves, legalization of the illegal black contents market, and controling the tendency of consumers in departmentalized market. This can help find the policy issue entirely deferent with the existing character powers like US, Japan or Europe. In its final analysis, the alternatives are the promotion of models with contract copyrights of domestic and foreign connected contents, the diversification of profit models of platform economy, the additive development of target market related to enlarging the Korean waves, and the strategy of character market for the age-specific tendency according to developing character demand market.

  • Reflecting the current craze for early childhood education, the demand for learning contents has soared, kids content is emerging as a key topic of the contents industry. The industry developing digital content for young learners is called the 'angel industry', it is attracting a lot of attention because of the increased demand for early childhood education. This paper selects characters used in successful digital products to study character design for OSMU children's educational contents. Through advanced research, analysis criteria were prepared and analyzed to derive general success strategies for character design. As a result, common design features in the analyzed characters were found and confirmed the need for further research. Hopefully, this study will contribute to OSMU character design and lead to improved development of educational contents and commercialization of various characters.

  • Character industry is fundamentally based on a technical environment, a media, like any other cultural content industry. In order to extend a life of a character and increase the brand value, a choice and utilization of a more efficient way is necessary. Analyzing why game characters are less worth as a value of commodities than other media contents is presented and suggests complementary methods for the matter. In this study, an approach to increase a brand value of a game character, as well as, linking to develop profitable models afterward is suggested presenting a case of game development.

  • 본 논문에서는 인권이 조명되는 요즘 문화콘텐츠에서 여성이나 성소수자 캐릭터가 조금씩 등장하기 시작했지만, 여전히 보기 힘든 장애인 캐릭터, 그중 게임콘텐츠에 집중해 알아보고자 한다. 게임에서는 주로 장애가 없는 성인 남성이 주인공으로 등장하나, 장애인 캐릭터가 아예 등장하지 않은 것은 아니다. 지금까지 게임에 나타난 장애인 캐릭터는 어떤 종류의 장애를 가지고, 장르에 따라 어떻게 표현되는지 연구하였다.

The Inter Industrial Competency Analysis of Game Industry and Character Industry (국내 문화콘텐츠산업의 연관산업 역량분석 -게임산업과 캐릭터산업을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the industry infra competence status between game and character industry and to investigate relational industry cluster by LQ index. Applying to relative LQ index was no. of company, the no. of employee and the amount of revenue of 2012 years between game industry and character industry. The regional cluster block composed of metropolitan block (Seoul, incheon & Kyunggi area) and regional blocks(kangwon, chungchung, daekung, honam, dongnam and jeju region). The results of this research are as follows. First, the competency level of the quantity estimation of game industry and character industry highly concentrated to Seoul, Incheon & Kyunggi block. In case of the inter industrial competency analysis including metropolitan block, the high competency level indicated among metropolitan block, kangwon, dongnam and jeju region. In case of except metropolitan, dongnam and jeju region indicated high OSMU possibility between two industry. The contribution of this research was assessment of regional game and character culture contents' industry competences. And this research suggested fact based quantitative analysis of OSMU accessibility and validity of game and character industry's competence.

  • 게임에서의 캐릭터는 플레이어와 게임을 연결해주는 중요한 역할을 하며, 더 나아가 게임의 재미를 느끼는 데 필요한 요소 중 하나이다. 본 논문에서는 최근 대표적으로 인기를 끌고 있는 MOBA 장르의 게임인 리그 오브 레전드, 오버워치, 히어로즈 오브 더 스톰, 사이퍼즈 총 4개 게임의 캐릭터와 역할에 대한 재미를 분석하여 공통적인 재미 요소를 정리하고 설문 조사를 통해 유저들의 선호도를 파악하여 앞으로 게임 캐릭터 기획 제작에 대해 도움을 주고자 한다.

Development of Character Goods Content Utilizing Marker-based Augmented Reality (마커기반 증강현실을 활용한 캐릭터 굿즈 콘텐츠 개발)

  • Recently, there has been growing interest in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, with a particular focus on the advancement of augmented reality (AR) devices. However, there is a shortage of AR content. Augmented reality operates through marker-based and markerless methods. The marker-based approach involves using a camera to capture images that serve as markers, enhancing them through AR principles. To address the scarcity of AR content and improve the quality of character goods, this study proposes integrating AR technology into character goods. The character industry is expanding each year, leading to a diverse range of character goods. Character acrylic stands, among these goods, leverage game, webtoon, and animation character IPs for sales. To enhance the design process, we utilized the character image as a marker, allowing for the creation of content that aligns with the characteristics of the character IP. We selected a webtoon character and developed AR content, incorporating features such as voice, speech bubbles, and an introduction to the webtoon, tailored to the webtoon's characteristics. This study demonstrates the potential of AR to present visual and auditory information, paving the way for a variety of products, including diverse content. We anticipate that utilizing this research will lead to the emergence of products encompassing various contents.
