  • 'Heongbu and Nolbu 1' is a series of the on-line game 'Tales Runner.' It is based on a traditional Korean fairy tale. However, the game characters in Heongbu and Nolbu 1 wear casual clothes even though the game is set in the Joseon Dynasty. Therefore, this paper presents proposed game characters clothes based on traditional Korean costumes from the Joseon Dynasty. This work should help inspire gamers and game designers with the beauty of Korean traditional costumes and familiarize them with an aspect of Korean people's identity. A literature review of online games and game characters was carried out, and game characters' clothes were analyzed. The design motifs of historical relics of the Joseon era were evaluated. Three styles, one traditional and two "fusion" styles integrating traditional and modern elements were proposed for each of the 4 characters: Chowon, Ruff, Bada and Abell. The chulrik and jurip were used as design motifs for Chowon. A traditional chulrik, short chulriks and pants are suggested. Second, the dongari and jeonrip were used as design motifs for Ruff. A traditional dongdari, sapok pants, deck pants and a vest are suggested. Third, the jeogori and chima were used as design motifs for Bada. A traditional female hanbok, arm warmers, short-sleeved jeogori and dress are suggested. Fourth, the dang-ui and daeran-chima were used as design motifs for Abell. A traditional dang-ui and daeran-chima, blouse, skirt, jumper and tight Bermuda shorts are suggested. The length, shape and color were converted into new styles, but some traditional elements such as the git and goreum were retained.

  • It is of great importance to categorize the genres of online games in order to get a useful conceptual framework. The reason for this is so that we can distinguish between the similarities and differences between the types of games. Most of researches, however, have not provided common criteria, other than subjective criteria or experiences. This paper finds the fundamental characteristic of games, that is, their interactivity and develops a conceptual framework including primary and corresponding participants, and controlling characters. Through an empirical research on World of Warcraft, this study shows that the framework is comprehensive covering all of interactivity at WoW and an useful tool for analyzing online games.

  • We can make the foundation of culture and contents solid with a mental altitude to make out and protect copyright. It'll be the basis of the cultivating student, the next generation in this field who are majoring in animation, comics and characters now. It will give them a good environment to learn more about copyright and motivate surroundings. With this kind of education, We can make and protect works better. This thesis is a result of study to show how to and when to instruct people copyright even though we have faced constant argument on copyright and new approach to the economic value of cultural contents which has been under industrialization. Also, another big issue is what class would be a good target of the education on copyright. College may be the last place in the regular course for education before starling his or her career. Thus, the education that is focused on the importance of copyright is recommendable at this time. Particularly, the students who are majoring carton, animation and character can keep a good attitude to protect copyrights for others through the timely education on copyright. What's more, we can build better environment for students who will start their career in the field of the cultural contents and copyrights because they will not only try protect copyrights for others but also they know their works will be protected through thls kind of education on copyright. I believe this kind of education in college will promote the development in the field of cultural contents and copyrights. Also, it will support social and economic development In culture after all.

  • In this paper, we implement a digital content that visualizes 33 Avalokitesvara-Bodhisattva according to the wishes of the public. The 33 Avalokitesvara-Bodhisattva is described in the Avalokitesvara-Bodhisattva tale that is found in the ancient literature "Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms" as Tangible Cultural Heritage. Also, it is easily found in a wall painting of traditional Buddhist temples. The 33 Avalokitesvara-Bodhisattva is the saint of mercy that transforms into 33 various forms according to the wishes of the public. The Avalokitesvara-Bodhisattva tales deal with differences in the types of wishes of the public, and the tales have been speeded like wildfire among the people. So, in this paper, we classify them into 4 groups by the wishes (healing, security, academic achievement, disaster relief) of the public, and then analyze its symbolism and activity of the 33 Avalokitesvara-Bodhisattva. Also, we implement a 2D digital content that represents visually it according to the wishes of the public. Applications of the implemented visual content are as follows; development of character, game, and digital storytelling associated with traditional culture, education service for Buddhist doctrines, etc.

  • Character industry in Korea has a history of less than 20 years by now, as it began in earnest at the end of the 1980s. Domestic character market is estimated to be around 1.2 trillion won occupying mere 0.01% of the world character market of 1,200 trillion won and less than 4% of the Japanese market, according to the according to the calculation made by Korea Animation Producers Association. Local character takes up only 5% of the domestic character market, necessitating the development of the local character and an increase in market share. It is painful to look at the current status of the local character market especially when compared with the huge world market. However, it might be and opportune moment for us to reverse the situation in our favor by a mental switchover. And we need to face up to the reality that the local character industry has many problems, and it is our duty to settle them. What then are the problems caused by the foreign character taking up 90% of the domestic market? Foreign character overwhelming the local market will bring about cultural dependency, emotional confusion, and financial loss caused by the payment of the royalties stemming from the intellectual property rights. The following is suggested as methods of settlement for such problems: 1. Development of character emotionally appealing to the Koreans 2. Development of long-lived character 3. Development of character firmly based on a good scenario 4. Thorough planning & marketing 5. Establishing an institution exclusively governing character business This study discussed the importance of developing long-lived character appealing not only to the Koreans but also to the whole world, that will meet the requirements as stated in 1 & 2 of above. For this purpose Chungmugong General Lee Soon-shin was chosen out of the Korean historical personages for further analysis, trying to rediscover the significance of the character development based on originality.

  • Third Person Action Game is a genre receiving continuous interest from many game enthusiasts. The most distinctive feature about third person action games is that the user can actually see the character as well as the various actions, which in turn increases user engagement. Many games are developed using game engines. However, this study designs a third person action game using only DirectX library instead of the specialized techniques in game engines. By doing so, the game development costs will be minimalized. The study also uses several basic algorithms in order to process the various events and to make the animation effects more efficiently managed in the graphic device. The performance superiority is demonstrated by the results of the study.

  • Hanryu phenomenon, referring to the fad for "all things South Korean" from the late 1990s, gave us an opportunities to realize the value of contents and the potential in business. As the government established promotion center to boost the contents industry, the number of departments on contents in colleges increased rapidly despite short history. This time provided a great background for the development of contents industry and training students. Specifically, the training courses in colleges for the students who major in contents has been the solid foundation of the excellent results in contents industries such as game, drama, film, animation and character. As the development and production of contents have been proceeded mostly in Seoul metropolitan area. If local promotion centers and colleges cooperate with each other for training students in this field, a successful business model will be established in local community with the help of local government and businesses. The objective of this study is to make an investigation into the promotion centers and the colleges that have departments on contents in Gyeongsangnamdo and Jeollanamdo, far from Seoul metropolitan area. This study may help to make suggestions for the next study through the investigation of promotion centers and colleges related to "Contents" in Gyeongsangnamdo and Jeollanamdo including cities under the direct control of the government.

  • Games of the AOS genre are classified as an e-sport rather than a recreational computer game. The involved statistical analyses such as game playing patterns and the season's characters gain importance due to the expertise-requiring nature of sports. In this study, the strategic analysis of computer games was conducted by using data mining techniques on League of Legend, a representative AOS game. We designed and tested a winning forecast model using winning percentage prediction techniques such as logistic regression analysis, discriminant analysis, and artificial neural networks. The game data analysis results were represented by a probabilistic graph and used in the visualization tool for game play. Experimental results of the winning forecast model showed a high classification rate of 95% on average with potential for use in establishing various strategies for game play with the visualization tool.

  • In this paper, we present an emulation library for the essential features and their API function calls provided by Direct3D, the most actively used API for computer game-related application programs on the MS-Windows-based desktop's, with OpenGL library in the Linux environment. In typical Linux-based systems, only the X window system and OpenGL graphics library are available. There are lots of needs for this kind of emulation library to convert the Direct3D-based game applications and user interfaces on these systems. Through carefully selecting the essential API functions from the DirectX version 9.0, we obtained the prototype implementation of that emulation library, to finally get the final full-scale DirectX implementation. Our implementation currently covers 3D coordinate transformations, light and material processing, texture mapping, simple animation features and more. We showed its feasibility through successfully executing a set of Direct3D demonstration programs including a real-world game character animation on our implementation.
