Face Detection in Color Images Based on Skin Region Segmentation and Neural Network (피부 영역 분할과 신경 회로망에 기반한 칼라 영상에서 얼굴 검출)

  • Many research demonstrations and commercial applications have been tried to develop face detection and recognition systems. Human face detection plays an important role in applications such as access control and video surveillance, human computer interface, identity authentication, etc. There are some special problems such as a face connected with background, faces connected via the skin color, and a face divided into several small parts after skin region segmentation in generally. It can be allowed many face detection techniques to solve the first and second problems. However, it is not easy to detect a face divided into several parts of regions for reason of different illumination conditions in the third problem. Therefore, we propose an efficient modified skin segmentation algorithm to solve this problem because the typical region segmentation algorithm can not be used to. Our algorithm detects skin regions over the entire image, and then generates face candidate regions using our skin segmentation algorithm For each face candidate, we implement the procedure of region merging for divided regions in order to make a region using adjacency between homogeneous regions. We utilize various different searching window sizes to detect different size faces and a face detection classifier based on a back-propagation algorithm in order to verify whether the searching window contains a face or not.

Gamut Mapping Based on Color Space Division for Enhancement of Lightness Contrast and Chrominance (휘도 대비와 채도 향상을 위한 색 공간 분할 색역 사상)

  • This paper proposes a gamut mapping algorithm based on color space division for cross media color reproduction. As each color device has a limited range of producible colors, reproduced colors on a destination device are different from those of the original device. In order to reduce the color difference, the proposed method divides the whole gamut into parabolic shapes based on intersecting lightness by the just noticeable difference (JND) and the original device gamut boundary. Dividing the gamut with parabolic shapes and piecewise mapping of each region not only considers gamut characteristics but also provides for mapping uniformity. Also the lightness variations are more sensitive to the human visual system and by using lightness JND it can restrict lightness mapping variations that are unperceivable to enhance lightness contrast and chrominance. As a result, the proposed algorithm is able to reproduce high quality images using low-cost color devices.

  • 본 논문에서는 연속영상 속에 있는 얼굴영역을 칼만 필터를 이용하여 추적하는 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 영역-기반접근(region-based approach)방법인 워터쉐드 알고리즘을 이용하여 초기 영역 분할 작업을 한 후 얼굴칼라 모델과의 매칭작업을 통해서 얼굴영역을 찾아내는 얼굴검출 단계와 추출된 얼굴영역의 칼라정보를 칼만 필터의 입력으로 하여 얼굴을 추적하는 단계로 구성되어 있다. 실험결과를 통하여 제안된 방법이 배경이 복잡한 영상에 대해서도 효율적으로 얼굴을 추적할 수 있음을 보인다.

  • Mean shift procedure is applied for the data points in the joint spatial-range domain and achieves a high quality. However, a color image is segmented differently according to the inputted spatial parameter or range parameter and the demerit is that the image is broken into many small regions in case of the small parameter. In this paper, to improve this demerit, we propose the method that groups similar regions using region merging method for over-segmented images. The proposed method converts a over-segmented image in RGB color space into in HSI color space and merges similar regions by hue information. Here, to preserve edge information, the proposed method use by merging constraints to decide whether regions is merged or not. After then, we merge the regions in RGB color space for non-processed regions in HSI color space. Experimental results show the superiority in region's segmentation results.

  • This paper proposes a new method for the parameter estimation in Markov Random Field(MRF) model of textured color images. The MRF models allow an image region to bel described using a finite number of parameters that characterize spatial interactionsl within and between bands of al color image. An important problem is estimation of the parameters since the randorn field model-based textured color image is the mostly parametric images of natural scenes to verify the validit of the proposed method proves that the method is not affected by the size of the image and shows well-segmented images.

A Study of Brush Stroke Generation Using Color Transfer (칼라변환을 이용한 브러쉬 스트로크의 생성에 관한 연구)

  • 본 논문에서는 회화적 렌더링에서 칼라변환을 이용한 브러쉬 스트로크의 생성에 관한 새로운 알고리즘을 제안한다. 본 논문의 브러쉬 스트로크 생성을 위한 전체적인 구성은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 두 장의 사진(한 장의 소스 이미지와 한 장의 참조 이미지)을 입력으로 하여 칼라 변환 이론을 적용하여 색상 테이블이 바뀐 새로운 이미지를 생성한다. 이 방법은 소스 이미지의 칼라 분포 형태를 창조 이미지의 칼라 분포 형태로 변환하기 위해, 선형 히스토그램 매칭이라 불리는, 간단한 통계학적 방법을 이용한다. 둘째, 가우시안 블러링과 소벨 필터를 이용하여 에지를 검출한다. 검출된 에지는 브러쉬 스트로크 렌더링 시 에지 부분에서 스트로크를 클리핑 함으로써 이미지의 윤곽선 보존을 위해 사용된다. 셋째, 브러쉬 스트로크의 방향을 결정하기 위한 방향맵을 생성한다. 방향맵은 입력 영상에 대한 영역 분할 및 병합을 토대로 만들어진다. 영역별 각 픽셀들에 대해 이미지 그래디언트에 기초한 일정한 방향을 부여함으로써 방향맵을 구성한다. 넷째, 구성된 방향맵을 참조하여 브러쉬 스트로크 생성의 기초가 되는 베지어 곡선(Bezier Curve)의 제어점(Control point)을 설정한다. 실제 회화작품에서 사용되는 브러쉬 스트로크는 일반적으로 곡선의 형태를 이루므로 곡선 표현이 가능한 베지어 곡선을 이용하여 브러쉬 스트로크를 표현하였다. 마지막으로, 생성된 브러쉬 스트로크를 에지부문에서 클리핑하고 배경색을 참조하여 블렌딩하거나 퐁 조명 모델을 이용하여 이미지에 적용하게 된다.

A Region-based Image Retrieval System using Salient Point Extraction and Image Segmentation (영상분할과 특징점 추출을 이용한 영역기반 영상검색 시스템)

  • Although most image indexing schemes ate based on global image features, they have limited discrimination capability because they cannot capture local variations of the image. In this paper, we propose a new region-based image retrieval system that can extract important regions in the image using salient point extraction and image segmentation techniques. Our experimental results show that color and texture information in the region provide a significantly improved retrieval performances compared to the global feature extraction methods.

A Study on Clustering and Color Difference Evaluation of Color Image using HSV Color Space (HSV색공간을 이용한 칼라화상의 클러스터링 및 색차평가에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes color clustering method based on color difference in the uniform Munsell color space obtained from hue, saturation, and value. The proposed method operates in the uniform HSV color space which is approximated using ${L^*}{a^*}{b^*}$ coordinate system based on the RGB inputs. A clustering and color difference evaluation are proposed by thresholding NBS unit which is likely to Balinkin color difference equation. Region segmentation and isolation process are carried out ISO DATA algorithm which is a self iterative clustering technique. Through the clustering of 2 input images according to the threshold value, satisfactory results are obtained. So, in conclusion, it is possible to extract result of better region segmentation using human color perception of the objects.

  • 비디오객체 추출 기법은 MPEG-4 및 MPEG-7의 응용을 목표로 최근 활발하게 연구되고 있다. 이들 연구는 객체 추출의 전체적인 구조와 정확한 윤곽선 검출 알고리즘의 개발에 초점을 맞추고 있으며 제한적인 조건하에서 만족할 만한 성능을 내고 있다 그러나, 카메라 움직임, 객체의 빠른 움직임, 비강체 운동 등 보다 일반적인 상황에서는 객체 추출의 안정성이 떨어진다. 본 논문에서는 객체 추출의 안정성을 높이기 위해 칼라, 움직임 정보 등의 특징정보(feature)가 균일한 영역으로 사전분할하고, 분할된 균일영역을 추적하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 추적된 균일 영역간의 경계는 각 영역의 통계적 분포와 영역경계의 윤곽선으로 정의된 에너지를 레벨셑 방법으로 최소화함으로 조정된다.

Practical Page Segmentation using Connected Components and Color Information (연결요소와 색상정보를 이용한 실제적 문서영상 분할)

  • While page segmentation is an important step in document recognition, there haven's been many researches on it. More improvement is still needed on the segmentation of document elements in complicated or color documents. In this paper, I present a new page segmentation method which can segment pages with multiple columns, dotted lines, graphics, and photographs. I extract all connected components using contour following and combine them depending on the size and positional information of them. Separate text location is done for non-text color regions to extract possible text lines. To see the performance of the proposed method, experiments are done for 180 documents. Four commercial OCR programs are also tested and the proposed method showed the best result.
