The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of the Q-ray view, a novel optical device on reliability of assessing a tooth status by dental hygiene students in the training for dental hygiene process. Twenty patients were enrolled in this study. Oral examinations were conducted by both seventeen third-year dental hygiene students and a trained faculty member. Traditional visual inspection was performed in phase I and then re-examined with Q-ray view in phase II. Restoration codes and lesion codes for each tooth were recorded separately according to the predefined criteria. As a measure of reliability, percent agreement and Cohen's kappa were determined. Agreements for each intraoral regions and types of lesion and restoration were calculated. Paired t-test and Pearson chi-square test for two proportions were used to compare mean Cohen's kappa and percent agreement at each phase. For the lesion code, mean kappa values of phase II for intraoral regions were significantly greater than that of phase I (p=0.017). For the both of the lesion code and restoration code, percent agreements of phase II for each types of lesion and restoration were significantly greater than that of phase II (p<0.001 and p<0.001, respectively). Especially difference of percent agreements between phase I and II for incipient caries, caries and fracture were significant for the lesion code (p=0.046, p<0.001, and p=0.029, respectively) and for not restored or sealed, tooth-colored restoration were significant for the restoration code (p<0.001 and p=0.011, respectively). The reliability of assessing a tooth status was improved when the Q-ray view used in dental hygiene student with beginner level of expertise. Q-ray view can be a promising device for conducting and educating the dental hygiene process better.
This study aimed to provide the basic data for the prevention of carpal tunnel syndrome by measuring and comparatively analyzing the changes in muscular strength, grasping force, and agility of hands before/after practice, targeting the dental hygiene students taking the scaling practice course. Targeting total 15 students(4th-year) of Dental Hygienics who had no problems with anatomical structure, muscular strength, grasping force, and senses of hands, the muscular strength, grasping force, and agility of hands were measured before/after the scaling practice. The collected data was processed by using the PASW Statistics 18.0(SPSS) Program. In the results of this study, the muscular strength and grasping force of hands were decreased after the practice compared to the ones before the practice. The agility of hands was increased after the practice compared to the one before the practice. Based on such results of this study, it would be necessary to avoid such exhausting hand gestures for scaling, and also to develop the preventive exercise to build up the strength of hands like stretching before/after scaling.
To find out the relationship between the experience of clinical practice and the performance confidence, some 2nd and 3rd grade students in D health college who completed clinical practice in 2008. Sept. were surveyed. The results are as follows. 1. During the clinical practice of the dental hygiene students, the performance experience was highest in the basic prep. part among every part. As for the dental hygiene part, the students showed more than 70%, rather higher performance experience in the following parts: arrangement before and after treatment, suction, basic instruments setup, local anesthesia setup, extraction setup, resin filling setup, temporary filling setup, cements mixing, and ligation and removal setup. 2. As for performance confidence, those with performance experience showed higher performance confidence than those with only observation experience or with no experience in every treatment field except basic prep. (p < 0.001). 3. It was proven that the hygiene students have seldom had performance experience in other treatment parts except in assisting treatment part in clinical practice. In order to improve future performance experience on dental hygiene activities, subsequent research is needed to set more specific and objective criterion about the dental hygiene students' clinical practice.

The purpose of this study was to compare the self-esteem and professionalism of dental hygiene students according to an educational system(three-year course and four-year course). The subjects in this study were 579 dental hygiene students in Chungcheong Province, on whom a survey was conducted. The findings of the study were as follows: The result on self-esteem and professionalism rate according to their satisfaction level towards the course shows that self-esteem of those who answered "satisfied" 3.02 in three-year-course, and 2.96 in four-year-course(p<.05), while professionalism rate of those who answered "satisfied" reach 2.97 in three-year-course and 2.93 in four-year-course(p<.05). As to self-esteem by motivation of choosing the department, the students who chose the department in hopes of being well paid had the best self-esteem both in the three-year-course colleges(3.18) and four-year-course universities(3.02). In terms of professionalism, those who chose the department in consideration three-year-course colleges, and the students who wanted to get a lifelong job(3.29) were most excellent in the four-year-course universities(p<.01).
The purpose of this study was to examine the satisfaction level of dental hygiene students with the general education courses of the dental hygiene curriculums and their awareness of the curriculums in a bid to seek ways of improving the general education curriculums. The subjects in this study were 265 sophomores in four different colleges located in the cities of S, L and K. A self-administered survey was carried out, and the findings of the study were as follows: In terms of satisfaction level with the general education courses, they got 2.54, which was a low score. To be specific, they expressed the most satisfaction with the duplication of the courses (2.63%), followed by appropriateness (2.61%) and teaching methods (2.60%). As for links between general characteristics and satisfaction with the general education courses, the students who were more satisfied with their major were more gratified with the general education courses, and the gap between them and the others was statistically significant (p<.001). The students didn't think that the general education courses they were taking were conducive to character building. Concerning connections between general characteristics and view of the general education courses, the students who were better contented with their major took a more favorable view of the general education courses, and the gap between them and the others was statistically significant (p<.05). In relation to expectations for the general education courses, they asked for efficient teaching methods, competent lecturers and the kinds of general education courses that could step up self-development. Therefore the general education curriculums should discreetly be reviewed to ensure the successful and diverse implementation of the curriculums.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between degree of satisfaction and experience on performance in accordance with the characteristics for the dental hygiene students. Dental hygiene students to 480 people from November to December 2014 and analyzed by conducting a survey. The higher grade students were more satisfied with the degree of satisfaction on experience for clinical test performance and clinical practice organization rather than the lower grade students. Also, the degree of satisfaction on major for the higher grade students has been shown as relatively higher than the lower grade students. The factors that affecting the experience for clinical performance and the degree of satisfaction for clinical practice were shown as grade, satisfaction for major and period for practice. In order to enhance the degree of satisfaction on the clinical performance for students, it should be established the system for practice management considering the characteristics of clinical practice by relevant organizations. Also, the dental hygienist who is responsible for dental education should manage his/her practice for students actively. Meanwhile, the practice organization should improve and update the content of education through the consistent alliance with colleges continuously.
For this study, specimens were prepared using five types of composite resin and resin-reinforced glass ionomer Fuji II LC, and 29 days precipitation was done in four kinds of solution, which were soy sauce, gochujang, wine, and distilled water. Ten specimens for each coloring sample were divided into two groups, one those surfaces was polyester film and the other with 1200-grit abrasive paper, and 20 specimens per materials. Color change (${\Delta}{\ast}ab$) in the colored specimens is measured in 2days, 7days, 14days and 29days using spectrophotometer (CM-2600d, Konica, Minolta, Ramsey, NJ). All values were considered significant when P<0.05. 1. Each material is discolored over time under the influence of different storage solutions. 2. In soy source, among the specimens polished with polyester film, color change was observed in resin-modified glass ionomer Fuji II LC, prodigy and compomer F-2000 on day 2. Meanwhile, Fuji II LC showed noticeable color change in specimens prepared with 1200-grit sandpaper on day 2, which was followed by flowable resin on day 7. 3. On day 2, there was a color change with the specimens of flowable resin, resin-modified glass ionomer Fuji II LC and Prodigy among the hybrid specimen in the groups of polyester film in gochujang.
This study used raw data from the 2016-2018 National Health and Nutrition Survey to study the correlation between blood lipid and periodontal disease in Korean men and women, and selected the final 11,797 people as subjects of analysis. A stratified analysis of smoking and residential areas was conducted to see the link between blood lipid and periodontal disease in Korean men. In men, non-smokers had a significant correlation of 1.38(95% CI:1.09-1.76), and in men, the risk group had a odds ratio of 1.49(95% CI:1.16-1.91), and in smokers, the risk group had odds ratio of 1.76 (95% CI:1.39-2.23) shows that the warning group is significant in relation to the intersecting ratio 1.14(95% CI:1.16-1.70) and the risk group 1.60(95% CI:1.32-1.94) periodontal disease. In conclusion, men's blood lipids and periodontal diseases are associated with smoking or residential areas, and are especially intended to be used as basic data in developing health education programs related to systemic and periodontal diseases for men in urban areas. In developing education programs for men in urban areas in the future, we want to use them as basic data.
This study aims to provide basic data to identify the effects of oral health behavior and autologous oral health symptoms on factors that affect quality of life of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 19) depression. This study collected data from July 2020 to September 2020, the research method was finally analyzed for 89 people in the group of depression non-increase and 86 people in the group of depression due to COVID-19. As an analysis method, oral health behavior, autologous oral health symptom and quality of life were compared, and the hierarchical regression analysis was implemented to check the effect of depression on the quality of life. As a result, the effects of depression (=-0.155, p=0.012) and autologous oral health symptoms (=0.524, p<0.001) were significant as a result of controlling demographic characteristics and checking the effects on quality of life. Therefore, it is urgent to develop programs related to the mental health of the community to relieve depression and anxiety with COVID-19, and public relations activities will be needed to relieve anxiety about dental visits so that dental treatment can be received at an appropriate time.
The purpose of this study is to propose learning objectives in social dental hygiene by analyzing and reviewing learning objectives in oral health administration area of the existing public oral health. This study is a cross-sectional study. The subjects of the study selected with convenience extraction were 15 members of the social dental hygiene subcommittee of the Korean Society of Dental Hygiene Science. Data collection was conducted by self-filling questionnaire. The research tool is from 48 items of A division in the book of learning objectives in the dental hygienist national examination, and this study classified each of them into 'dental hygiene job relevance', 'dental hygiene competency relevance', 'timeliness', and 'value discrimination of educational goal setting' to comprise 192 items. Also, to collect expert opinions, this study conducted Delphi survey on 7 academic experts. Statistical analysis was performed using the IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 23.0 program (IBM Co., Armonk, NY, USA). Recoding was performed according to the degree of relevance of each learning objective and frequency analysis was performed. This study removed 18 items from the whole learning objectives in the dental hygienist national examination in the oral health administration area of public oral health. Fifteen revisions were made and 15 existing learning objectives were maintained. Forty-five learning objectives were proposed as new social dental hygiene learning objectives. The topics of learning objectives are divided into social security and medical assistance, oral health care system, oral health administration, and oral health policy. As a result of this study, it was necessary to construct the learning objectives of social dental hygiene in response to changing situation at the time. The contents of education should be revised in order of revision of learning objectives, development of competency, development of learning materials, and national examination.
