(Guideline for Monitoring and Management of Pediatric Patients During and After Sedation for Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures developed and endorsed by AAP a and AAPD)이 어떻게 변경되는지에 중점적으로 알아보며 새로 변경된 지침에 따라 소아치과의의 진정요 법의 진료와 교육도 영향을 미칠 것이다.

  • General anesthesia (GA) for dental care in handicapped patients is necessary to facilitate the provision of safe, efficient, and effective quality treatment. The aims of this study were to determine the anesthetic characteristics of handicapped patients in need of dental treatment in these day care units, and to establish for plan to provide better services. 325 patients who had outpatient general anesthesia from January 2005 to March 2014 were assessed for this study. Patients' distribution and treatment patterns were examined. The proportion of male patients (202, 62.2%) was higher than female patients (123, 37.8%) and the largest group of patients were 5 to 10 years old (85, 26.2%). The reasons for general anesthesia included mental and physical disabilities (207, 63.7%), behavior management (84, 25.8%), parent needs (14, 4.3%), and so on. Restorative treatment was the most common procedure with the average of 4.2 teeth treated per one patient and 43 (13.2%) patients underwent general anesthesia for dental treatment more than once. To expand and improve access to the dental care of the disabled, improvement of the health care system, enhancement of their training for dental care by professionals, and enlarging caregivers'understanding of the importance of oral care in the early stages are required.

  • Recently, a method of fabricating an esthetic anterior fixed prosthesis by integrating data such as three-dimensional facial scan and jaw motion to form a virtual patient with dynamic occlusion has been introduced. This enables smooth communication with patients during the diagnosis process, improves the predictability of esthetic prosthetic treatment, and lowers the possibility of occlusal adjustment. In this case report, a virtual patient with dynamic occlusion was created in which the results of the treatment were simulated, and esthetic maxillary anterior fixed prosthesis was fabricated. With the aid of the virtual patient, the final restorations were satisfactory both in terms of esthetic and function.

  • Objective: Many factors are considered when a patient chooses the type of dental institution they wish to receive treatment from. Numerous studies have been conducted regarding this issue. However, more research is needed in analyzing the patient's psychological aspects when he/she decides to choose the dental institution they wish to receive treatment from. Methods: A locus of control test was utilized to analyze the psychological aspects in orthodontic patients of a university dental hospital and a private dental clinic. The locus of control test is known to be useful in predicting a human being's behavior. Both intrinsic and extrinsic locus of control tests were carried out in 934 orthodontic patients attending Seoul National University Dental Hospital and 1466 orthodontic patients from a private dental clinic. Results: The orthodontic patients at the university dental hospital showed a stronger extrinsic locus of control compared with those from the private dental clinic. Conclusion: The orthodontic patients at the university dental hospital value the doctor as the authority figure and the treatment quality more than those at the private dental clinic.

Among all the chief complaint and dental diagnosis, dental trauma was the highest. Among all the referring departments, departments of surgery were the highest. In relation to being delayed of consultation term after dental trauma, it turned out that there's pretty high mutual relation between the hospitalization period and the consultation term after dental trauma, and the hospitalization period had the quantitative influence on the consultation term. Statistically, dental trauma and admission in the medical department due to trauma had significant relations. In case of those patients due to car accidents, they had dental trauma without exception. Statistically, patient's group with dental trauma in hospital room was younger than patient's group with dental trauma in non-hospital room. Statistically, dental trauma and treatment in hospitalization had no significant relations, and dental trauma and revisiting department of dentistry after discharge had no significant relations. For the child and adolescent inpatients hospitalized for car accidents, there is high possibility of accompanying dental trauma, and dental consultations can be delayed. For the young child inpatients, the possibility of dental trauma occurrence in hospital room is high. Moreover, treatments during hospitalization and revisiting department of pediatric dentistry after discharge are not performed well for inpatients with dental trauma.
