A self- administered survey was conducted from March 5 to April 13, 2010, in consideration of their general characteristics. The answer sheets from 204 respondents were gathered, and 197 answer sheets were analyzed except seven incomplete ones. A factor analysis was carried out to find out their general characteristics, and independent-samples t-test and one-way ANOVA were utilized to get statistical data on mean and standard deviation. A SPSS 12.0 program was employed to analyze all the collected data. And it's found that the largest number of the patients thought that the main duty of dental hygienists was to give treatment to patients, and they took a favorable view of their services. This study investigated perceptions and opinions on medical personnel related to dental hygienists. The subjects of this study were 25 students, including dentistry students, dental hygiene students, dental technology students, and nursing students. The survey items consisted of general information, the pros and cons of medical hygienists and their reasons, the scope of legal work, medical practice, and the professionalism of dental hygienists. Frequency analysis and 𝑥2-tests were used for the analysis method. As a result of the study, the pros and cons of the dental hygienist's medicalization were 56.2% in favor and 40% in opposition. There were significant differences in the opinions of the dental hygienists involved with medical hygiene by 90% and 25% in nursing students. In addition, there was a significant difference in the perception of the legal work of dental hygienists and the rate of recognition of medical activities among the departments. In conclusion, it is expected that understanding and support for dental hygienists will be achieved only if proper knowledge and education about dental hygienists are made available in other departments.
This study aimed to determine the changes of awareness and preference of dental hygienists according to the experience of using a digital intraoral scanner through a convergence study. Data collected by an online survey for dental hygienists in Busan, Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk were analyzed by SPSS 24.0 program. When dental hygienists had an experience of using a digital intraoral scanner, the awareness and preference of digital intraoral scanners were significantly higher. The experience of using a digital intraoral scanner showed a positive correlation with the clinical application experience of digital intraoral scanners; the clinical application experience of digital intraoral scanners, with the awareness of digital intraoral scanners; and the awareness of digital intraoral scanners, with the preference of digital intraoral scanners. In conclusion, the dental hygienist's experience in clinical application of digital intraoral scanners is expected to increase the awareness and preference, resulting in the improvement of dental hygienists' work ability. Therefore, it is believed that continuous education and learning about digital oral scanners are needed.

Objectives: Although the number of clinics offering temporomandibular joint (TMJ) physical therapy has been increasing to help with its treatment, the scope of dental physiotherapy reflected in the dental hygienist curriculum is very limited. This study aims to survey the status of dental physiotherapy work and the need for educating dental hygienists. Methods: An online community platform was used to survey 140 dental hygienists working in clinical dental hospitals. The survey included questions about general characteristics, the experience of dental physiotherapy work, the importance of physiotherapy work performance, and the need for physical therapy education for dental hygienists. Results: Half of the study participants had prior experience working in dental physiotherapy. Out of 140 participants, 88.6% agreed with the opinion that 'physical therapy work is important or that it will become important'. Furthermore, 84.3% agreed that 'physical therapy education is necessary for dental hygienists'. Even dental hygienists without physical therapy experience (50.7%) believed that related education would be necessary because of the importance of physical therapy work in dentistry. Conclusions: This study suggests the need for education in dental physiotherapy to help dental hygienists effectively perform clinical tasks.
This research is to identify the status of the curriculum based on dental hygiene programs, the awareness about medical service technologists, etc. act and job demands of students in the department of dental hygiene. The data was collected by self-reported questionnaires from 536 dental hygiene students. This data was analyzed using SPSS 19.0K program for Windows with a statistical significance level of 0.05. The level of objective awareness of the current Medical Service Technologists Act was higher for females(9.14±1.11) than for males(8.56±1.79)(p=0.043). Meanwhile, there was little difference between college and university(p=0.639), whereas the level dropped as the number of clinical practice experiences went up(p=0.045). Therefore, the law in convergence needs to be revised to reflect the reality of dental hygienists' work, and the dental community needs to change its perception that dental hygienists are not only recognized as assistant workers but also as business partners.
The purpose of this study was to identify the factors associated with medical care utilization, the level of recognition, satisfaction, revisit and recommendation after implementing the expanded health insurance coverage of dental scaling. A questionnaire survey was conducted and analyzed among 608 adults living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do April 1st to 30th, 2014. The results of the survey are as follows: 76.9% of the respondents know the expanded health insurance coverage, which is influenced by educational background and monthly income. The level of satisfaction, revisit and recommendation intention is affected meaningfully by educational background. Two factors, high school graduate or less and dental hygienist, meaningfully affect patients' satisfaction with scaling, and recommendation from others and Internet searching contribute to revisit. High school graduate or less is also one of the factors affecting the intention of recommendation, along with recommendation from others, Internet searching, scaling by a dental hygienist, and oral hygiene education before scaling. Summing up the results, patient's satisfaction and intention to recommend are high when dental hygienists provide oral hygiene instruction prior to scaling. This study suggests that dental hygienists help patients feel comfortable before treatment by building rapport with them. In addition, it is required that consistent efforts for quality improvement in scaling be sustained, that the patient's needs be identified to increase their satisfaction with scaling, and that studies to verify relevant factors be conducted.
