Korea became an aged society as of 2018, and will have plunged into a super-aged society by 2025. For the dental treatment of elderly patients, their general conditions are to be considered to make appropriate treatment plans and strategies, based on advanced knowledge of geriatric dentistry and clinical experience. In this study, the social demand for geriatric dental specialists for the treatment of the elderly of Korea is investigated by looking at their general health conditions, ADL (Activities of Daily Living), and IADL (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living), along with the review of the advanced training programs of geriatric dentistry in other countries.

Drug-induced gingival overgrowth is an abnormal increase of gingival tissues caused as a side effect of systemic medication. This report presents a severe case of valproate-induced gingival overgrowth combined with ulcerative and hemorrhagic lesions in a patient with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Considering the patient's limited cooperative ability, gingivectomy and excisional biopsy under general anesthesia were performed. The lesions were successfully treated without recurrence. When gingival enlargement does not subside with nonsurgical treatments, surgical procedure and excisional biopsy are to be performed. Postoperative management of oral hygiene is critical to prevent recurrence.

Panoramic radiography is widely used as a primary radiological diagnosis in dentistry. However, due to the overlapping of anatomical structures, diagnostic capability of panoramic radiography is limited. Recently, panoramic machine equipped with various image processing software has been introduced to improve the diagnostic capability. This study aims to introduce panoramic equipment with multi-layer imaging software that can provide 41 images from anterior to posterior in region of interest, and to report in various clinical applications.

Nowadays computer-guided "flapless" surgery for implant placement using templates is gaining popularity among clinicians and patients. The advantages of this surgical protocol are its minimally invasive nature, accuracy of implant placement, predictability, less post-surgical discomfort and reduced time required for definitive rehabilitation. Aim of this study is to describe the digital implant protocol, thanks to which is now possible to do a mini-invasive static guided implant surgery. This is possible thanks to a procedure named surface mapping based on the matching between numerous points on the surface of patient's dental casts and the corresponding anatomical surface points in the CBCT data. With some critical points and needing an adequate learning curve, this protocol allows to select the ideal implant position in depth, inclination and mesio-distal distance between natural teeth and or other implants enabling a very safe and predictable rehabilitation compared with conventional surgery. It represents a good tool for the best compromise between anatomy, function and aesthetic, able to guarantee better results in all clinical situations.

한국에 있는 치과병원의 전공의 및 대학원생과 치과 대학생의 측두하악장애와 만성 동통에 관한 이해도를 알아보기 위하여 서울대, 연세대, 경희대, 이화여대, 단국대, 원광대, 강남 성심 병원 전공의 및 대학원생 217명과 서울대, 연세대 치과 대학 3,4학년 학생 258명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 병태 생리, 정신 생리, 만성 동통, 및 정신과적 장애에 관한 전공의 및 대학원생과 치과 대학생의 응답과 미국 측두하악장애 및 만성동통 전문가의 응답을 비교하였는데, 정신 생리학적 및 정신과적 장애 항목에 대한 전공의 및 대학원생들과 치과 대학생들의 개념과 지식은 미국 측두하악장애 및 만성 동통 전문가들의 개념 및 지식과 유사하였으나, 병태 생리와 만성 동통 항목에서는 미국 측두하악장애 및 만성 동통 전문가들의 개념 및 지식에 미치지 못하였다.

A 49 years old male patient was referred from the Department of Medicine, KNUH for the management of painful oral lesions. The patient had disability of food and drug intake due to multiple intraoral ulcers. Extraoral findings showed upper and lower lip swelling, crust formation on the lips. The lesions were diagnosed as Stevens-Johnson syndrome based on clinical and hematologic findings. The patient was treated with saline irrigation and pulsed Nd:YAG laser irradiation. After 5 daily treatment, the lesions decreased in size and severity, and the patient became more comfortable for food intake and speeching. It was suggested from the results of this clinical trial that a pulsed Nd:YAG laser therapy would be helpful for the symptoms associated with Stevens-Johnson syndrome.

This study aimed to compare the perception of dental role-play or dental ASMR videos between the general public and dental personnel, to determine whether they are suitable for mass media or educational media, and to identify guidelines for video production. The survey consent form was agreed on using SNS for the general public and dental personnel, 236 ordinary people and 232 dental officers who said that they watched dental ASMR videos were analyzed. The questionnaire consisted of 27 questions for the general public and 31 for dental personnel. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and the Independent T-test using SPSS 25.0 ver. The viewing experience of 'dental ASMR videos' was significantly higher among dentists (84.7%) than among the general population (71.5%) (p<0.001). Overall, 53.8% of the general public were interested in watching dental ASMR videos, and 47.8% of dental personnel acquired clinical information from them.. Overall, 64.8% of the general public and 65.5% of the dental workforce felt that such technical videos should be produced under the guidance of experts in the field to provide accurate technical information. It is necessary to avoid indiscriminate video production with inaccurate information produced by non-experts and to continuously monitor dental ASMR videos dental institutions for better quality of the videos.

We report the rehabilitation of Class II malocclusion with multiple teeth fracture due to trauma. A multidisciplinary team approach was necessary to treat patient's problems such as bone fracture, malocclusion, and multiple teeth fracture. Emergency conservative treatment, orthodontic treatment and prosthetic restoration successfully restored the occlusion. However, special considerations were needed along the orthodontic treatment process due to the unexpected complications such as ankylosis, root resorption and detection of additional teeth fractures.
