  • 본 연구에서는 양이온 교환반응에 의해 Na-Mont와 R$_{11}$SO$_4$로부터 R$_{11}$SO$_4$-Mont 층간화합물을 합성한 후, 이 R$_{11}$SO$_4$-Mont 층간화합물을 다시 제 4차 유기 양이온인 (Et)$_4$N$^{+}$ 이온 및 (Bu)$_4$N$^{+}$ 이온과 반응시켜 그 거동을 살펴보았다. R$_{11}$SO$_4$-Mont를 (Et)$_4$N$^{+}$이온 및 (Bu)$_4$N$^{+}$과 반응시켜 얻은 층간화합물을 다시 아세토니트릴, 에탄올 및 디옥산과 팽윤반응을 수행한 결과 층간거리가 확장되었으나, 이는 Na-Mont를 R$_{11}$SO$_4$와 48시간 교환 반응시킨 후에 교환용액 하에서 얻은 R$_{11}$SO$_4$-Mont의 층간거리에 불과했다.

  • The potential use of modified clays in the adsorption of vapor phase benzene and toluene was investigated. The modified clays OC-CPC, IOC, and Al-PILC were prepared for comparative purposes and were characterized using infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray diffraction. It was confirmed the intercalation of the aluminium pillar in IOC and Al-PILC, as well as the introduction of cetylpyridinium. The adsorption studies showed a great affinity of benzene and toluene for OC-CPC due to the hydrophobic character that resulted and also to the increase in the interlaminar distance. IOC showed a lower affinity for the benzene and toluene, followed by Al-PILC. Natual clay had no affinity for benzene and toluene due to its hydrophilic nature. Clay materials having a laminar structure can be chemically modified, changing their physiochemical characteristics, such as interlaminar distance, surface area, pore size, and chemical affinity. In this study, it was focused on obtaining modified clays to be used for the adsorption of volatile organic chemicals.

  • The response to noise may differ depending on the respondent's noise sensitivity. In this study, it was investigated that the noise sensitivity, the annoyance and disturbance of floor impact noise and opinions on their neighbors. The questionnaire respondents were divided into two or three groups based on noise sensitivity, and annoyance and disturbance on floor impact sound were compared. The noise sensitivity questionnaire method was presented. The questionnaire survey was conducted on 233 residents of Seoul, Gyeonggi - do area. As a result of the questionnaire survey, when the sensitivity group was divided into three groups, it was found that there was a significant difference between the groups with the noise sensitivity and the disturbance reaction. As a result of the opinions on their neighbors, positive responses to neighbors increased with age. Also, it was found that there was a low perception of inter - floor noise and life disturbance of the group having positive feelings about neighbors.

  • In this research, the cation-exchange-reactions between Na-Montmorillonite and betaine compound, $R_{11}SO_4$, with acid group at the end of alkyl chain were performed under the general condition with dist. water including $CO_2$ and under the different pH-conditions with dist. water without $CO_2$, and their behaviors were observed. As results the exchange reaction under the general condition was perfectly finished after 49 h exchange time, and the basal spacings obtained under the exchange solution and after washing with methanol and drying in high vacuum were 23.6, 17.1 and $15.0\AA$, respectively. The basal spacings obtained under pH-exchange solution after exchange time under different pH-values lied between about 24.7 and $25.6\AA$ independently of the pH-values, and those measured after drying on the air and in high vacuum were about $20.0\AA$ and $13.8~14.4\AA$, respectively.

  • Dicyanate-clay nanocomposite has been prepared by a melt in-situ polymerization method for different modifiers and cation exchange capacity (CEC) values in order to study dispersion and mechanical property. Various dicyanate nanocomposites were prepared by using different MMT systems containing different intercalants which led to different initial gallery heights and packing density. Depending on compatibility between dicyanate and clays, the degree of dispersion varied. Dispersion of clay plates in dicyanate resin depended mainly on CEC and aliphatic chain length of modifier. The lower CEC and shorter aliphatic chain length of modifier gave the exfoliation structure. It was also found that the reactivity of intercalant with dicyanate resin was one of the key factors facilitating the intercalation/exfoliation process of dicyanate/MMT nanocomposites. Shear modulus of reaction-induced dicyanate nanocomposite was significantly increased.

  • By cation-exchange-reaction long-chain organic cationic tensides can be intercalated in the montmorillonite layer space, and thus intercalations-complexes of montmorillonite with different properties of materials can be obtained. Such intercalations-complexes are finding strong technical appliances in many areas and are also used very often as model-systems for studying behaviors of materials. Therefore in this research intercalations-complexes of montmorillonite with organic cationic tensides ad model-systems were synthesized and their behabiors under various different conditions were studied.

  • In this research montmorillonite intercalations complexes as organophilic clay compounds which have very different properties as the starting clay mineral were synthesized by the substitution of metal ions which exist in the montmorillonite layers with the organic cations which have long alkyl chain by the cation exchange reaction. Thereafter the obtained products dried in high vacuum were treated with the various swelling liquids such as dist. water, methanol, acetone, ether and acetonitrile in order to know the swelling behaviour of the synthesized complexes. Especially for this research Korean and Turkish clays were selected to compare the intercalations complexes of both clays and their swelling behaviour.

  • Beidellite, a member of the dioctahedral smectite group, was synthesized hydrothermally from dickite. Organophilic [DEACOOH]-beidellite intercalation complex was formed by the cation exchange reaction between synthetic Na-beidellite and [DEACOOH]Br. The products dried in high vacuum were treated with various organic solvent such as methanol, ethanol, acetone, ether, acetonitrile and caprolactam in order to determine the swelling behaviour of the prepared complexes. After drying under high vacuum, basal spacing of [DEACOOH]-beidellite shows 15.1 ${\AA}$, and it changed to 19.4, 29.9, 15.9, 16.8, 14.8, 26.5 and 14.8 ${\AA}$ under distilled water, methanol, ethanol, acetone, ether, acetonitrile and caporlactam, respectively. Especially, the characteristics of the intercalation complexes and their swelling behavior of the synthetic beidellite and natural montmorillonite were compared.

  • Surfactant adsorption by two montmorillonite types with different interlayer cations of Ca and Na was characterized by examining the time dependence of surfactant behavior on the clay surfaces. Surfactants with different micelle concentration were conducted in our experiment to observe a nonequilibrium activity of cationic surfactant on the clay over reaction periods ranging from 0.1 min to 11 days. As compared with Ca-montmorillonite (SAz), a more active intrusion of surfactant molecules into the interlayers was found in Na-montmorillonite (SWy). During a short 'initiation' stage, the basal spacing of SWy montmorillonite increased rapidly with logarithmic time. For SAz montmorillonite, however, the abrupt basal spacing increase occurred at the later stage of the reaction. From the result, the difference in the adsorption behavior exhibited by the two montmorillonite types partly results from their intrinsic nature, that is, inorganic cations originally existing on the clay surfaces. Additionally, the micelle concentration of surfactants affects the development of organo-montmorillonite, especially, in the intercalant formation and stabilization under nonequilibrium.
