Early Fuel Evaporator Effects on Cold Driveability of Automobile (조기연료 기화장치의 냉간 시동 및 주행 성능 분석)

  • The object of this paper is to investigate the effects of early fuel evaporators on cold driveability of gasoline passenger cars. Experiment has been carried out for the assessment cold start performance and cold driveability. And fuel consumption rate, emission and cylinder pressure were measured. On the base of combustion pressure of cylinder, rate of heat release, cumulative heat release amount and burned mass fraction are evaluated. The results show that fuel consumption rate is increased by 17.7%, monoxide and hydrocarbon were reduced by 23% and by 45% respectively, fluctuations of indicated mean effective pressure and maximum combustion pressure were increased by 4∼6%, fuel consumption rate per power was improved by 0.2∼2.3%. These are caused by the fact maximum heat release period and main combustion period are getting short.

  • 선택 스플라이싱 (alternative splicing)은 mRNA (messenger RNA)의 전구체인 pre-mRNA가 mRNA로 전사될 때 pre-mRNA의 엑손 영역들 (exons)이 여러 가지 유형 (pattern)으로 다시 연결되는 과정을 말한다. 선택 스플라이싱에 의해 하나의 유전자로부터 서로 다른 mRNA가 만들어 지고 서로 다른 이소형의 단백질 (protein isoforms)이 생성된다. 현재까지 알려진 선택 스플라이싱의 유형은 약 7가지 종류가 있으며, 유전자의 돌연변이 및 질병과 밀접한 연관성을 가지고 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 차세대 시퀀싱 (Next Generation Sequencing : NGS) 기술로 생성된 RNA-Seq 데이터로부터 각 유전자 영역에 대한 선택 스플라이싱 유형을 분류/추출하는 새로운 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안된 알고리즘에서는 RNA-Seq 데이터를 DNA 시퀀스와 mRNA 트랜스크립트 시퀀스에 동시 매핑하고, 각 엑손 영역에 정렬된 RNA-Seq 데이터의 커버리지 정보 및 엑손의 접합 (junction) 정보를 이용하여 발현된 트랜스크립트 (transcript)의 종류와 양을 측정한다. 알고리즘의 유효성을 보이기 위하여 시뮬레이션 데이터를 이용한 인간 유전자 영역에서의 선택 스플라이싱 유형 추출 실험을 수행하였으며, 검증된 선택 스플라이싱 DB와 비교, 검증하였다.

A Study on Fire Characteristics of Solid Combustible Materials Based on Real Scale Fire Test (실규모 실험에 의한 고체가연물의 화재특성 연구)

  • A series of fire tests involving realistic solid combustible materials was conducted to quantify the heat release rate and investigate the fire growth characteristics during the initial fire growth stage. For these tests, single/double wood cribs, urethane cushion having polypropylene covers and wood crib on nylon carpet with urethane carpet padding were used as a fuel source. The fire growth coefficient of the solid combustible materials was quantified and the fire growth characteristics were compared with the $t^2$ fire scenario. The mean effective heat of combustion was evaluated by the total mass loss of fuel and total energy release concept and examined the effect of the ventilation and fire condition. The present study provides the practical information on the fire growth characteristics of solid combustible material to design to a set of fire scenarios for the fire risk analysis.

Power Line Detection of Arial Images Using Hough Transform (하프변환을 이용한 항공영상의 전력선 검출)

  • Effective monitoring and maintenance operation of towers, power lines and other defects to ensure high quality and reliability of electric power supplied to customers is becoming one of the most important tasks of today's power industry. One specific technology that has the potential to automate the entire surveillance process is unmanned aerial vehicles. In this paper, we propose a new power line extraction method using the directivity of a power line and Hough transform to detect efficiently power lines from thermal aerial images. In simulation results for several aerial images, the proposed method shows good performance in extracting power line detection.

System Implementation for Automatic Inspection of Wind Pressure Sensor Based on Reliability Improvement (신뢰성 향상 기반의 풍압센서 자동검사 시스템구현)

  • This research describes system implementation for automatic inspection on wind pressure sensor production based on reliability improvement. The reliability is minimized by the automatic inspection system on the wind pressure sensor against the manual system. The system consists of the control system and monitoring system to be scanning the inspection processing. The inspection system for reliability is evaluated in Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility. The experimental results are improved about 2 times speed, measured error ${\pm}0.02V$, effectiveness 15%, missing probability 17% and false alarm 12% respectively. The system will be also improved by database and the product barcodes for the total quality control system based on the effective reliability in the future.

  • In this paper, an automatic setting method of control parameters for robot scorer is proposed. First we acquisited some local image lesions including robots and ball patch, and sampled the regions to RCB value. Edge operator is applied to get magnitude of gradient at each pixel. Some effective patch regions can be detected by magnitude of gradient, and YUV value at each pixel in patch lesions can be obtained. We can determine control parameters of robot soccer using luminance component of YUV. The proposed method is applied to robot soccer image to detect initial patch value and get control parameters adaptively in light variation.

Case studies for modeling magnetic anomalies with COMSOL Multiphysics® (콤솔 멀티피직스를 활용한 지자기장 모델링 사례 연구)

  • Magnetic anomalies are sensitive to magnetic properties present in deep Earth and near surface structures. Such geophysical characteristics often can be quantified by numerical analyses. In this study, we developed a finite element method (FEM) approach to compute magnetic anomalies using COMOL $Multiphysics^{(R)}$. This FEM approach was verified by comparing its numerical results with the previously known analytic solution for a uniformly magnetized sphere. Then, we used the method to compute magnetic reversal patterns near mid-ocean ridge with various faulting scenarios. This COMSOL-based approach can be incorporated into advanced multi-physical numerical models to understand the Earth.

Optimization of Extraction Process for Antioxidant from Persimmon Leaf and Thistle Using Response Surface Methodology (반응표면분석법을 이용한 감잎과 엉겅퀴로부터 항산화성분의 추출공정 최적화)

  • In this study, we extracted an antioxidant from natural products which are known to have a high antioxidant content and also optimized the extraction process by applying a response surface methodology (RSM). In addition, by measuring the total flavonoids and total polyphenols of the active ingredient extracted persimmon leaf and thistle, the functionality of the active ingredient was evaluated. Both ultrapure water and alcohol were used as extraction solvents and the ratio of ultrapure and alcohol, amount of sample, extraction time, extraction temperature were set as independence variables. Also, the yield, total polyphenols, and flavonoids was set as the response. Optimal extraction conditions were as follows; for persimmon leaf, the extraction time = 3.1 h, ratio of alcohol/ultrapure = 63.4 vol%, and temperature = $54.6^{\circ}C$ while for thistle the extraction time = 2.9 h, ratio of alcohol/ultrapure = 40.7 vol%, and temperature = $68.4^{\circ}C$. Also, the response were as follows; for persimmon leaf, the yield = 27.7%, total polyphenols = 33.2 mg GAE/g, and total flavonoids = 47.8 mg QE/mg dw, whereas for thistle the yield = 27.0%, total polyphenols = 17.9 mg GAE/g, and total flavonoids = 28.8 mg QE/mg dw at the optimal conditions. The overall satisfaction level was 71.7%.

Action Spectra for Light-Induced De-Epoxidation and Epoxidation of Xanthophylls in Spinach Leaf

  • The action Spectra for violaxanthin de-epoxidation and zeaxanthin expoxidation in New Zealand spinach leaf segments Tetragonia expansa, were determined at equal incident quanta of $2.0{\times}10^{15}$ quanta $cm^{-2}$ $second^{-1}$. The action spectrum for de-epoxidation had major peaks at approximately 180 and 648 nm. Blue light was slightly more effective than red light and little activity was observed beyond 700 nm. The action spectrum for epoxidation showed major peaks at around 441 and 670 nm. Blue light was more effective than red light and light beyond 700 nm showed definite activity. The net result of de-epoxidation and epoxidation is a cyclic scheme, the violaxanthin cycle, which consumes $O_2$ and photoproducts. The action spectra indicate that the violaxanthin cycle is more active m clue than in red light and therefore could accout for $O_2$ uptake stimulated by blue light. The differences between the action spectra for de-epoxidation suggest that possibly two photosynthetic systems are involved. It was suggested that the violaxanthin cycle may functional a pathway for the consumption of excess photoproducts generated in blue light or the conversion of these photoproducts to other forms of energy.

The Enhancement Effect of the Electrochemical Deposition in the Recovering Process of Cu from CuSO4 Solution (황산구리 용액으로부터의 구리회수공정에서 초음파에 의한 전착반응의 증대효과)

  • In this study, the ultrasound which provides the properties of mixing, and surface cleaning effect, the increase of the effective reaction surface area and the enhancement of the effective collision frequency, was used to enhance the recovering efficiency of Cu from the Cu-ion containning waste water. The ultrasonic reactor used in this study was designed and constructed for improving the disadvantage of the existing ultrasonic reactor. From the experimental result and its analysis, we obtained following conclusions. 1. The ultrasound increased the rate of electrochemical deposition to 582.2% in maximum at the condition of $0.1M-CuSO_4$, and 2.1 V-overpotential. 2. The enhancement effect of ultrasound induced by the reduction of diffusion layer thickness was 277.8% in maximum and induced by the other effect except for the reduction effect of the diffusion layer thickness was 253.6% in maximum at $0.1M-CuSO_4$ and 2.1V overpotential. 3. This study gave the possibility of the scale-up of ultrasonic reactor and in particular, ultrasonic reactor would be effective in the treatment of waste water containning a low concentration of Cu ion.
