A Study on the Surfaces Machining Characteristics of Ultra-precision through SEM Measurement (SEM 측정법에 의한 초정밀 표면가공 특성연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to look at the characteristics of surface finishing which is one of the form accuracies and to obtain the fundamental technical data from the process of machining with diamond tool through experiment and theoretical analysis. The experiments were conducted with domestic made ultra-precision machine and MCD.PCD tool, with aluminum alloyed material and brass being used for the work pieces. The goal of the size accuracy was set to 100nm. The most suitable tool nose radius and machining conditions were selected, and the variations of the surface roughness were observed using SEM method while machining the distance of up to 500km. These data were evaluated and they examined the variation of the machined surfaces while cutting up to 500km of machining distance. At the same time, the state for the wear of diamond tool nose was analyzed and carefully examined through the newest measuring device. Additionally, the characteristics of ultra-precision machining technology were studied through visual analysis.

Generating Cartesian Tool Paths for Machining Sculptured Surfaces from 3D Measurement Data (3차원 측정자료부터 자유곡면의 가공을 위한 공구경로생성)

  • In this paper, an integrated approach is proposed to generate gouging-free Cartesian tool paths for machining sculptured surfaces from 3D measurement data. The integrated CAD/CAM system consists of two modules : offset surface module an Carteian tool path module. The offset surface module generates an offset surface of an object from its 3D measurement data, using an offsetting method and a surface fitting method. The offsetting is based on the idea that the envelope of an inversed tool generates an offset surface without self-intersection as the center of the inversed tool moves along on the surface of an object. The surface-fitting is the process of constructing a compact representation to model the surface of an object based on a fairly large number of data points. The resulting offset surtace is a composite Bezier surface without self-intersection. When an appropriate tool-approach direction is selected, the tool path module generates the Cartesian tool paths while the deviation of the tool paths from the surface stays within the user-specified tolerance. The tool path module is a two-step process. The first step adaptively subdivides the offset surface into subpatches until the thickness of each subpatch is small enough to satisfy the user-defined tolerance. The second step generates the Cartesian tool paths by calculating the intersection of the slicing planes and the adaptively subdivided subpatches. This tool path generation approach generates the gouging-free Cartesian CL tool paths, and optimizes the cutter movements by minimizing the number of interpolated points.

  • Diamond-like carbon (DLC) 박막은 높은 경도, 내 마모성, 화학적 안정성, 전기적 절연성, 높은 광 투과성을 가지고 있어, 공구강, 광학렌즈 및 플라스틱의 보호 코팅을 위해 응용되어진다. 하지만, DLC 박막은 높은 잔류응력으로 adhesion이 떨어진다는 단점이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 전처리가 13.56MHz 150W RF플라즈마 화학기상 증착(RF-PECVD) 법을 통한 DLC 박막의 합성에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 알아보기 위해, $H_2$ (80 sccm), $O_2$ (10 sccm), $N_2$ (20 sccm)의 다른 가스를 사용하여 전처리를 하였다. DLC 박막 합성 후, 특성은 Raman, scratch test, contact angle 등의 측정을 통하여 분석되었다.

  • Aspherical mirrors have lighter weight and better performance than spherical mirrors, but it is difficult to process their shape and measure the processing precision. Especially, large aperture aspherical mirrors mounted on satellites need high processing precision and long processing time. The computerized numerically controlled machine of gantry type has been used in polishing process, but it has difficulties in processing the complex shapes due to the lack of degrees of freedom. In order to overcome this problem we developed a polishing system using an articulated industrial robot. The system consists of tool path generating program, real-time robot monitoring, and control program. We show the performance of the developed system through the computer simulation and actual robot operation.

  • To increase accurateness and reliability of the evaluation of power tool vibration transmitted to an operator, it is necessary to measure the grip and feed forces during the measurement of hand-transmitted vibration. In the study a system was invented to measure the vibration and the grip and/or feed force, which consists of a measurement handle and a PC with a data acquisition system and the corresponding software. Strain gauges and an accelerometer were mounted on the handle surface for the simultaneous measurement of the forces and the vibration. The program in the system makes it possible to monitor the grip and feed force during the tool operation so that the operator keeps the applying forces within the pre-determined range. Investigating the vibration total values, frequency-weighted root-mean-square accelerations at the handle, obtained in repetition for each power tool with control of the grip and feed force showed more consistency than those measured without force control. By using the system the experimenter can reduce random error of the measured vibration.

  • Compression and bending test have been conducted to evaluate the mechanical performance of CFRC at several different temperature up to $2000^{\circ}C$ . Tools and several grips for the test at high temperature were designed to obtain mechanical properties of CFRP. A major cause of increasing strength according to increasing the density and the temperature were analyzed. SEM method was utilized to find out the damage and the fracture mechanism. The new simple equation for the L(span length)/h(beam height) of specimens and for the failure criterion on the 4 point bending were proposed.

A Study on Evaluation of Machinability using cuter Runout in Ball-end Milling (볼엔드밀 가공에서 런아웃 측정을 통한 가공성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • The performance of interrupted cutting operations like milling is consideraly affected by cuter runout. In this study, cutter runout is selected as an important machining parameter for evaluation of machinability in ball-end milling and caused from misalignments of tool and holder, unbalanced mass of parts and tool deflection under machining. To evaluate the machinability due to cutter runout, the rotating accuracy of spindle, cutting force and surface roughness are measured. The rotating characteristics of spindle in each revolution speed were investigated by cutter runout in freeload. The predicted surface form of workpiece by measuring cutter runout data was compared with real surfaces. The results show that measuring runout with high response gap sensor is useful for studying the phenomenon of high-speed machining and the monitor surface form using in-process runout measurements in ball-end milling is possible.

The Brazing Characters of cBN Grit with Ag-based Filler Alloys (cBN 지립과 Ag계 필러합금에서의 브레이징 특성)

  • 철계 피삭재 가공 시 적용되는 cBN(cubic Boron-Nitride)의 경우 열적/구조적 안정성으로 인해 융착 시 계면에서 화학적 결합이 어려워, 지립이 단일층으로 형성되어야 하는 융착 공구의 경우 적용되질 못하고 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 세라믹과의 젖음성이 우수한 Ti 성분이 포함된 67Ag+28Cu+5Ti(wt.%) 조성의 합금분말을 이용하여 cBN을 접합을 하였으며, 이때 융착조건은 진공 분위기($6{\times}10^{-6}$Torr), $900^{\circ}C$ 온도에서 5분간 유지하여 융착을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 주목적은 Ti 합금화 된 Ag계 합금분말 및 cBN의 융착 계면에서의 융착 계면거동해석을 통한 건전한 접합공정을 찾는데 있다. 이에 온도 $900^{\circ}C$, 유지시간 5분에서 건전한 융착층을 형성함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 결합력 측정기를 이용하여 결합력을 측정한 결과 diamond와 융착하였을 때가 123N, cBN을 융착하였을 때 107N으로써, cBN 융착이 diamond 융착의 87%정도의 결합력을 보임을 알 수 있었다. 한편 cBN과 Ag-Cu-Ti계 브레이징 필러의 계면에서의 미세조직 및 화학반응의 메커니즘은 SEM, EDS를 이용하여 분석하였다.

  • One of the most important technology in Factory Automation and Unmanned Automation is to construct the diagnostic system for manufacturing process. To improve the productivity in cutting process, the state of tools such as bite, drill, endmill should be monitored continuously. In this study, fuzzy logic was used to check the wear of drill in drilling process. The input variables to construct the fuzzy rules are cutting force and the rate of cutting force's change. The experiment was done with the fixed spindle speed and feed rate in cutting condition. The proposed algorithm is verified by comparing Fuzzy wear with real wear measured.

  • Productivity improvement and cost reduction in the aircraft industry have become major industrial objectives, and improving productivity by reducing machining time has become a key focus. When numerical cutting code is created by CAM software, such as CATIA or UG-NX, it is impossible to control machining feed speed using cutting force changes depending on the machining tool path. However, machining an aircraft engine part from difficult material, such as Inconel 718, takes a long time, and tool chipping or breakage often occurs from forcing the machining path too quickly. This study investigated and verified the reliability of the AdvantEdge production module (PM)using cutting power tests. In particular, diffuser and diffuser case parts were considered, comparing cutting power and machining time using AdvantEdge PM and CATIA.
