Formation and Electronic Properties of the Amorphous Cu-Ta Alloy Powders Subjected to Mechanical Alloying (기계적 합금화에 의한 비정질 Cu-Ta 분말의 제조 및 전자물성)

  • We recently showed from the neutron diffraction and extended X-ray absorption fine structure studies the structural evidence for the formation of an amorphous phase in immiscible Cu-Ta system subjected to mechanical alloying. In a system with a positive heat of mixing like Cu-Ta, we consider it necessary to confirm the formation of an amorphous phase not only from the structural studies but also from a change in the electronic properties. We show the electronic evidence for the formation of the chemical bonding between the unlike atoms Cu and Ta for the 120 h-milling sample through changes in superconducting transition temperature and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy valence band structure.

Mechanical Properties of Al/Al2O3 Composite Fabricated by a Powder-in Sheath Rolling Method (분말시스압연법에 의해 제조된 Al/Al2O3 복합재료의 기계적 성질)

  • The powder-in sheath rolling was applied to the fabrication of $Al/Al_2O_3$ composite. A stainless steel tube with outer diameter of 12 mm and wall thickness of 1 mm was used as a sheath. Mixture of aluminum powder and $Al/Al_2O_3$ particles of which volume content was varied from 5 to 20 vol.% was filled in the tube by tap filling and then rolled to 75% reduction at ambient temperature. The re]]ed specimen was sintered at 56$0^{\circ}C$ for 0.5 hr. The $Al/Al_2O_3$ composite fabricated by the sheath rolling and subsequent sintering showed the relative density higher than 0.96. The tensile strength of the composite increased with the volume content of $Al_2O_3$ particles, and it reached a maximum of 90 MPa which is 1.5 times higher than unreinforced material. The elongation decreased with the volume content of $Al_2O_3$ particles. It is concluded that the powder-in sheath rolling is an effective method for fabrication of $Al/Al_2O_3$ composite.

  • Aluminum-based $Al/Al_2O_3$ composites were fabricated by a powder-in sheath rolling method. A stainless steel tube with outer diameter of 12 mm and wall thickness of 1 mm was used as a sheath. A mixture of aluminum powder and $Al_2O_3$ particles of which volume content was varied from 5 to 20%, was filled in the tube by tap filling and then rolled by 75% reduction in thickness at ambient temperature. The rolled specimen was then sintered at 56$0^{\circ}C$ for 0.5 h. The mixture of Al powders and $Al_2O_3$ particles was successfully consolidated by the sheath rolling. The $Al/Al_2O_3$ composite fabricated by the sheath rolling showed a recrystallized structure, while unreinforced Al powder compact fabricated by the same procedure showed a deformed structure. The unreinforced Al powder compact was characterized by a deformation (rolling) texture of which main component is {112}<111>, while the $Al/Al_2O_3$ composite showed a mixed texture oi deformation and recrystallization. The sintering resulted in recrystallization in Al powder compact and grain growth in the composite.

Mechanical Alloying Effect in Immiscible Cu30Mo70 Powders (비고용 Cu30Mo70계 혼합분말의 기계적 합금화 효과)

  • Lee et al. reported that a mixture of Cu and Ta, the combination of which is characterized by a positive heat of mixing, $\{Delta}H_{mix}$ of +2 kJ/㏖, can be amorphized by mechanical alloying(MA). It is our aim to investigate to what extent the MA is capable of producing a non-equilibrium phase with increasing the heat of mixing. The system chosen is the binary $Cu_{30}Mo_{70}$ with $\{Delta}H_{mix}$=+19 kJ/㏖. The mechanical alloying was carried out using a Fritsch P-5 planetary mill under Ar gas atmosphere. The vial and balls are made of Cu containing 1.8-2.0 wt.%Be to avoid contaminations arising mainly from Fe when steel balls and vial are used. The MA powders were characterized by the X-ray diffraction, EXAFS and thermal analysis. We conclude that two phase mixture of nanocrystalline fcc-Cu and bcc-Mo with grain size of 10 nm is formed by the ball-milling for a 3:7 mixture of pure Cu and Mo, the evidence for which has been deduced from the thermodynamic and structural analysis based on the DSC, X-ray diffraction and EXAFS spectra.

  • This case study for a homeshopping company shows that the management of returned apparels by the partnership system increases the velocity of the returned goods, which not only minimizes the products' value loss but also improves the company's management performance. By incorporating the partnership system, following significant performance improvements have been identified: First, decrease in transaction cost and time between the homeshopping company and the partnering companies. Second, concentration of production line, accurate schedule management of receipt/delivery as well as collection of goods. Third, improvement of efficiency in procedures of returned goods and quality improvement of product provided by the partner.

Fabrication of Anorthite for Low-Firing Ceramic Substrate by PVA Steric-Entrapment Route (폴리머 고착공정을 통한 저온소성기판용 Anorthite의 제조)

  • A homogeneous and stable, amorphous-type, anorthite (CaO $Al_2$$O_3$ $2SiO_2$)powder was synthesized by an organic-inorganic steric entrapment route. Polyvinyl alcohol ( PVA) was used as an organic carrier for the precursor ceramic gel. The PVA content, its degree of polymerization and type of silica sol had a significant influence on the calcination and crystallization behavior of the precursors. For densifiction and crystallization at low temperature, porous and soft, amorphous-type anorthite powder was planetary milled for 20h. The milled powder crystallized to stable anorthite phase and densified to a relative density of 94% below $1000^{\circ}C$. In the development of crystalline phases of the planetary milled powder, omisteinbergite phase was unusually observed at $900^{\circ}C$, and then anorthite was observed at $950^{\circ}C$. The sintered anorthite had a thermal expansion coefficient of $4.6$\times$10^{-6}$ /$^{\circ}C$ and a dielectric constant of 7.5 at 1 MHz. Finally, the anorthite synthesized by the new process is expected to be an useful material for low-firing ceramic substrate.

Generating Characteristics of Cymbal Type Piezoelectric Transducer according to Change of Cymbal Cap (심벌캡 변화에 따른 심벌타입 압전 트랜스듀서의 발전특성)

  • In this paper, we studied generating characteristic of cymbal type piezoelectric transducer according to change of cymbal cap. The transducer is composed of circular piezoelectric ceramic and two elastic bodies which are shaped as cymbal. Two elastic bodies are attached to upper and bottom of the ceramic. Principle of the transducer is to generate expanded displacement because vertical stress is transformed into horizontal stress by slope angle of elastic bodies. The transducer also has advantage of high durability by the angle of elastic bodies. In this study, each parameter was chosen, and then generating characteristics were analyzed by FEM program. The parameters were slope angle of cymbal cap (theta), cap height (h) and cap inner diameter(d). The model that had generating characteristic Of high voltage was chosen by results of the analysis. Besides, maximum vertical displacements according to change of vertical stress were analyzed by structural analysis in order to find out relation between the maximum vertical stress which can prevent from ceramic damage and conditions of each cap.

Fabrication and Experiment of Rotary Ultrasonic Motor with Simple Structure (단순화된 구조의 회전형 초음파모터의 제작 및 실험)

  • The previous cross type USM(ultrasonic motor) has the stator of cross shape composed of 8 ceramics. However, ultrasonic motor with simple structure has the stator composed of only 4 ceramics. Principle of the motor is to apply alternative voltages which have 90 phase difference to attached ceramics, and then elliptical displacement is generated at four edges of elastic body. Characteristics of the motor were simulated by FEM(finite element method). The parameters were size of the stator and thickness of the ceramics. According to FEM results, driving frequency of motor is defined at 28 [kHz]. On the contrary, driving frequency of fabricated motor is defined at 26.8 [kHz] and then, experimental results were compared with FEM results at the frequency. As a result, elliptical displacement and speed of USM increased linearly with increasing applied voltage.

  • In the case of existing ultrasonic motors, they have characteristics such as outstanding response speed, speed and high efficiency. However, it's very hard to use practically them as small motors due to complicated structure and expensive cost. This paper proposed v-type ultrasonic linear motor. Stator of the motor is composed of thin elastic body and four ceramics attached to upper and bottom areas of the body. The ceramics have each direction of polarization. When two harmonic voltages which had $90^{\circ}$ phase difference were applied to the ceramics, the symmetric and anti-symmetric displacements were generated at the tip to make the elliptical motion. To find out a model that generates maximum displacement at contact tip, FEM program was used with change of leg-angle. In addition, optimal model was chosen by considering magnitude and shape of displacement according to change of frequency.

  • On this paper, a circular unimorph-type piezoelectric transducer was proposed and studied. The transducer was fabricated by attaching a circular-shaped PZT ceramic to a circular plate of brass and output characteristics of the fabricated transducer were then analyzed and measured by changing driving points where the mechanical vibrations were applied. Two conditions depending on the location of vibration were respectively defined as a center forced model and an edge forced model. The resonance frequency and output voltage of the models were simulated by using ANSYS, a FEM(finite element method) program. Based on the results of the analyses, the vibration experiment was conducted and the output characteristics then measured through measurement equipment. As a result, the maximum output characteristics of two models were respectively generated at each resonance frequency and the resonance frequency of the center forced model was lower than the edge forced model.
