For the intruder detection, a buried fiber-optic sensor based on fiber-optic Mach-Zehnder interferometer is demonstrated. We buried the sensor arm in a styrene board and exerted pressure on it. The pressure-induced deformation speed has almost linear relationship with the output frequencies of the interference signals, and about 4.25 Hz frequency change per 0.01m/s was obtained. Also it has been shown that the amplitude of frequency component increases according to the weight of mass.

A method how to determine the shock response spectrum from the FRF of the statistical energy analysis( SEA ) is presented here. The system of 3 different Plates connected by bolt joints is selected simulating missile structural sections Joined together. First, the SEA model was rendered by SEA parameters which were determined from experimental SEA method. Then, the mobility power was input to the SEA model and we can verify the validity of the model in the medium to high frequency range checking the reproduction of output average velocity. And, the shock induced shock response spectrum(SRS) was obtained using SEA FRF and arbitrarily chosen experimental FRF. We have compared the thus obtained SRS with actually measured SRS and they were relatively in good agreement. In this paper, we used the measured SEA FRF and therefore we have got the SRS well agreed with actually measured SHS even in the low frequency range. If the SEA FRF of well verified SEA model is used, the good result will come out in SEA effective frequency range which is more important at SRS.

In a nuclear power plant, loose part monitoring and its diagnostic technique is one of the major issues for ensuring the structural integrity of the reactor system. Typically, accelerometers are mounted on the surface of a reactor vessel to localize impact location cavsed by the impact of metallic substances on the reactor system. However, in some cases, the number of the accelerometers is not enough to estimate the impact location precisely. In such a case, one of alternative plan is to utilize another type sensors that can measure the vibration of the reactor structure even though the measuring frequency ranges are different from each others. The AE sensors installed on the reactor structure can be utilized as additional sensors for loose part monitoring. In this paper, we proposed a new method to estimate impact location by using both accelerometer signal and AE signal, simultaneously. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by an experiment. The experimental results demonstrate that we can enhance the reliability and precision of the loose part monitoring.

In this study, effects of both the grafted ABS-g-MAH and the added graphene oxide (GO) on the impact strength of polycarbonate (PC)/poly(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) (ABS) blends were discussed. The PC/ABS blends and PC/ABS/GO composites were fabricated by using twin screw extruder with ABS-g-MAH as a compatibilizer. The ABS-g-MAH was prepared by melting extrusion of ABS and maleic anhydride (MAH) with DCP (dicumyl peroxide) as an initiator using twin screw extruder and the synthesis of ABS-g-MAH was confirmed by the presence of carbonyl group (C=O) peak at $1780cm^{-1}$ of FT-IR spectrum. According to the thermal, rheological, and impact properties of PC/ABS blends, 5 phr (parts per hundred resin) of compatibilizer was chosen as an optimum content for the PC/ABS/GO composites. It was observed that the thermal decomposition of ABS/PC/GO composites increased with GO contents, but there was no significant changes or a decrease in the impact strength. Also the composite fabricated by ABS/GO showed small increase in the impact strength. From the result of the dynamic rheometer to observe the processing properties, the complex viscosities of PC/ABS blend including the compatibilizer increased, but the complex viscosities of composites added GO were not changed.
The dynamic modulus of elasticity of concrete can be determined nondestructively using impact echo test as prescribed in KS F 2437. The fundamental longitudinal frequency of the concrete cylinders with free-free boundary condition was estimated by the wavelet transform theory. The advantage of the wavelet transform over either a pure spectral or temporal decomposition of the signal is that the features of the pertinent signals can be characterized in the time-frequency plane. For the concrete mix design utilized in this study, no significant difference between the dynamic and the static moduli of elasticity was observed. This was contrary to the perceived general notion of having the dynamic modulus considerably higher than the static modulus. It has been shown that the modulus from static and dynamic by impact echo test are comparable to each other fairly well, when the effect of strain level was properly taken into account. In this experimental test, it was shown that the dynamic modulus is approximately equal to the tangent modulus at $1{\times}10^{-4}$ strain level.

In this study, the dynamic instabilities of a beam, subjected to periodic short impulsive loading, are investigated using simple 2-DoF beam model. The behaviors of beam model whose axial motions are constrained are studied for the case of elastic and elastic-plastic behavior. In the case of elastic behavior, the chaotic responses due to the periodic pulse are identified, and the characteristics of the behavior are analysed by investigating the fractal attractors in the Poincare map. The short-term and long-term responses of the beam are unpredictable because of the extreme sensitivities to parameters, a hallmark of chaotic response. In the case of elastic-plastic behavior, the responses are governed by the plastic strains which occur continuously and irregularly as time increases. Thus the characteristics of the response behavior change continuously due to the plastic strain increments, and are unpredictable as well as the elastic case.

The spectrum of impulse response signal from an impulse hammer testing is widely used to obtain frequency response function(FRF) of the structure. However the FRFs obtained from impact hammer testing have not only leakage errors but also finite record length errors when the record length for the signal processing is not sufficiently long. The errors cannot be removed with the conventional signal analyzer which treats the signals as if they are always steady and periodic. (omitted)

The rapid tactical operation and mobility are getting important to recently developed the guided weapon systems. And military wants multi-purposes equipment to carry the war more easily. So military wants to have the equipment that can apply without any distinction about environment. For this reason, the robust design is getting more important now to guarantee survivability of equipment. In this paper, we try to check about structural integrity of Fire Control Unit(FCU) which is one of the guided weapon system using dynamic FEM analysis.

In this paper, the optimal command input is considered in order to minimize the residual vibrations of a flexible cantilever beam when the beam simply changes its position by translation or rotation. Although a cantilever beam has many modes of vibration, it is shown that the consideration of the first mode is sufficient in this case. Thus, the problem becomes a single-degree-of-freedom system subjected to a ground excitation. Two simple methods are proposed to find the optimal command input based on the shock response spectrum (SRS). The first method is the simplest and can be applied to lightly damped cases, and the second method is applicable to more general problems. The second method gives almost the same results as the input shaping method. However the proposed method gives a easier and clearer control strategy.
The only law related to airblast and ground vibration control in Korea is the Noise and Vibration Control Act enforced by the Ministry of Environment. But this law mainly deals with the annoyance aspects of noises and vibrations in ordinary human life. Hence, the law defines the safety criteria of ground vibration as the vibration level (VL) of dB(V) unit. The ground vibrations produced from blasting, however, have the unique characteristics that can be shown in shock vibrations, and the duration is also very short compared to the vibrations from machinery, tools or facilities. Hence, vibration regulations for blasting operations usually define the safety criterion as the peak particle velocity (PPV) considering the effect of ground vibrations to structural damage. Notwithstanding, there are several attempts that predict VL from PPV or estimate VL based on the scaled distances (SD; in unit of $m/kg^{1/2}$ or $m/kg^{1/3}$) without considering their frequency spectra. It appears that these attempts are conducted mainly for the purpose of satisfying the law in blasting contracts. But, in principle there could no correlation between peaks of velocity and acceleration over entire frequency spectrum. Therefore, such correlations or estimations should be conducted only for the waves with the same or very similar frequency spectra.
