The Design of Optimum Hierarchical Subband Filter Bank (최적화된 계층구조를 갖는 서브밴드 필터뱅크의 설계)

  • Hierarchical subband codec has been widely promoted in the field of data compression/decompression because of their simplicity and modular nature. Over the past years, the study has received great attention to the perfect reconstruction (PR)system which perfectly recovers the original input signal at the reconstructed output. However, in the actual subband codec system, the signals that passed through the analysis filter bank are quantized before transmission to the receiver side and reconstructed by the synthesis filter bank. Thus the PR system is impossible and the quantization effects must be carefully considered in the system design such that the system recovers the reconstructed output as possible to the the original input signal with minimum quantization error.In this paper, we propose an optimum hierarchical subband codec structure in the presence of quantizer. The optimality criteria of the code is given to the deign of the hierarchical analysis/synthesis subband filter bank and the quantizer that minimize then output mean square error due to the quantizer in the codec. Specific opti-mum design esamples are shown with level-1, level-2 hierarchical structure. The optimal designs are verified by computer simulation.

  • The Satellite Electro-Optic Payload System needsspecial requirements with the conditions of limited power consumption and the space environment of solar radiation. The acquired image quality should be mainly depend on the GSD (Ground Sampled Distance), SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), and MTF (Modulation Transfer Function). On the well-manufactured sensor level, the thermal noise is removed on ASP (Analog Signal Processing) using the CDS (Corrective Double Sampling); the noise signal from the image sensor can be reduced from the offset signals based on the pre-pixels and the dark-pixels. The non-uniformity shall be corrected with gain, offset, and correction parameter of the image sensor pixel characteristic on the sensor control system. This paper describes the SNR enhancement method of the satellite EOS payload using the mentioned noise remove processes on the system design and operation, which is verified by tests and simulations.

Performance Improvement in Speech Recognition by Weighting HMM Likelihood (은닉 마코프 모델 확률 보정을 이용한 음성 인식 성능 향상)

  • In this paper, assuming that the score of speech utterance is the product of HMM log likelihood and HMM weight, we propose a new method that HMM weights are adapted iteratively like the general MCE training. The proposed method adjusts HMM weights for better performance using delta coefficient defined in terms of misclassification measure. Therefore, the parameter estimation and the Viterbi algorithms of conventional 1:.um can be easily applied to the proposed model by constraining the sum of HMM weights to the number of HMMs in an HMM set. Comparing with the general segmental MCE training approach, computing time decreases by reducing the number of parameters to estimate and avoiding gradient calculation through the optimal state sequence. To evaluate the performance of HMM-based speech recognizer by weighting HMM likelihood, we perform Korean isolated digit recognition experiments. The experimental results show better performance than the MCE algorithm with state weighting.

System for Preliminary Structural Design using Multi-Level Neural Networks (다단계 신경망을 이용한 초기 구조설계 시스템 개발)

  • The use of ANN is appropriate to computerize the information and knowledge used in the preliminary design stage where it lacks of formality of representation of designers' experience and intuition. Considering that there exists very little design information in preliminary design stage to start with, the ANN model for this stage must be designed to have input much less than output. However, this situation usually causes various problems such as in teaming time, convergence and reliability of solutions. To address this problem, this paper proposes multi-level neural networks lot progressive structural design considering that all the design information can not be obtained at a time but we growing gradually. The use of multi-level networks developed in this paper has been proved its validity by applying it to the preliminary design of cable-stayed bridges.

Performance of CEFSK Systems in Nonlinear Channel Environments (비선형 채널 환경에서 CEFSK 시스템의 성능)

  • A new modulation technique - correlative encoded FSK (CEFSK) - for use in power and bandwidth limited digital communication system is proposed. CEFSK is free of ISI and generates output signals which have a smooth and continuous phase transition and a reduced envelope fluctuation by keeping correlation between amplitude and phases of two subsequent symbols. In comparison to conventional one-bit differential detected (1DD) GFSK, the performance of the 1DD-CEFSK in a non-linearly amplified (NLA) channel impaired by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), ISI and IM, is analyzed via computer simulation. The simulation result shows that, in an NLA single-channel, 1DD-CEFSK provides a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) advantage of up to 1.2dB and 0.8dB at BER of $1{\times}10^{-4}$ when input back-off (IBO) of HPA is -1.0dB and -3.0dB, respectively. For the same channel environment with multi-channel, 1DD-CEFSK outperforms 1DD-GFSK by 1.1dB in SNR, regardless of the value of IBO.

Improvement of Electromagnetic Environment Effects in aLift System by Installing a Mobile-Communication Repeater (이동 통신 중계기 설치를 통한 승강기 시스템의 전자파 환경 개선)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest installation methods of a mobile-communication repeater into a lift system with consideration of EMC. Two approaches, one(Solution 1) is realized with a repeater installed in a lift hoistway and another(Solution 2) installed inside a lift, were proposed. It is confirmed that the Solution 1 is more effective than the Solution 2. And it is suggested that the EIRP of a repeater must be limited to be ${\leq}$-5 dBm by considering electromagnetic immunity level for a lift and safety margin of 20 dB. This limit can provide suitable electromagnetic environment inside a lift with precise power-control mechanism of mobile communication systems. This study could be a good example of Green ICT by improving electromagnetic environment in spite of radio use.

Performance Improvement of MCMA Equalization Algorithm Using Adaptive Modulus (Adaptive Modulus를 이용한 MCMA 등화 알고리즘의 성능 개선)

  • This paper proposes the improving the equalization performance using the adaptive modulus concept to the MCMA blind equalizer in order to the reduction of intersymbol interference which occurs in the band limited and time dispersive communication channel. In MCMA blind algorithm, it is possible to reducing the amplitude and phase rotation of intersymbol interference without training sequence, the fixed constant modulus of transmission signal is used. But in proposed algorithm, the modulus are adaptively varies according to the equalizer output signal, then the improved equalization performance were obtained by the computer simulation. For this, the recovered signal constellation that is the output of the equalizer, the convergence performance by MSE, MD (maximum distortion) and residual isi characteristic learning curve were used. The propose algorithm has fairly good performance compared to the traditional MCMA algorithm in the same adaptive equalization algorithm.

A 1$\times$4 Integrated Optical Matrix Switch Using the Three Guided Couplers in a Ti:LiNbO$_3$ (Ti:LiNbO$_3$세 도파로 결합기를 이용하여 집적한 1$\times$4 광 매트릭스 스위치)

  • 광의 병렬처리 능력을 잘 활용한 1$\times$4 매트릭스 스위치의 구조와 전극구조를 설계하고 스위치 특성을 조사하기 위하여 beam propagation method(BPM)를 이용하여 수치계산을 하였다. 기존의 매트릭스 스위치는 대부분의 경우 방향성 결합기를 스위치 element로 이용하여 왔으나 이 결합기는 소자의 길이가 길기 때문에 단일 LinBO3 웨이퍼상에 집적할 수 있는 매트릭스 스위치의 크기가 제한되는 단점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 두 도파로 사이에 세 번째 도파로를 삽입하여 두 도파로를 결합시키는 세 도파로 결합기를 스위치 element로 사용하여 세 개의 스위치 element를 LiNbO3기판위에 직렬로 집적시킨 1$\times$4 매트릭스 스위치를 구성하였다. 스위치 element와 1$\times$4 매트릭스 스위치를 구성하였다. 스위치 element와 1$\times$4 매트릭스 스위치의 특성을 BPM을 사용하여 수치계산할 때 단일 모드 도파로의 유효 굴절을 분포는 n(X) = nm + $\Delta$ncosh-2(2x/w)의 형태로 가정했으며, 사용된 파라미터의 값은 각각 nm=2.1455, $\Delta$n=0.003, W=5$mu extrm{m}$, d=5$\mu\textrm{m}$, λ=1.3$\mu\textrm{m}$ 이고 S-파라메터의 값은 0.95927이므로 단일 모드 도파로가 된다. 계산결과 스위치 element의 결합길이는 3810$\mu\textrm{m}$이며 도파로의 길이가 결합길이와 같을 때 전극에 인가된 전압에 의한 도파로의 굴절을 섭등의 함수로 출력광의 세기를 계산한 결과 스위칭 전압은 14.85volt이고 crosstalk는 -18.9dB였다. 이 스위치 element로 구성된 1$\times$4 매트릭스 스위치는 스위칭 전압을 세 개의 전극에 적절한 조합으로 인가함으로써 한 입력 도파로에 결합된 광이 내개의 출력 도파로중 한 도파로에 스위칭 된다. 한편 수치계산의 결과를 실험적으로 확인하기 위해 스위치 element와 1$\times$4 매트릭스 스위치를 z-cut의 LinbO3 결정에 Ti을 열확산시켜 제작한 소자의 스위칭 특성을 발표할 예정이다.

A Design of Full-wave Rectifier for Measurement Instrument (계측기용 새로운 전파정류 회로 설계)

  • This paper describes the new design technique of full wave rectifier (FWR) for precise measurement instrument and the chip implementation of this FWR circuit with measurement results. Conventional circuits have some problems of complex design and limited output range( $VDD/2{\sim}VLIIV1IT+$). Proposed FWR circuit was simply designed with two 2x1 MUXs, one high speed comparator, and one differential difference amplifier(DDA). One rail-to-rail differential difference amplifier(DDA) performs the DC level shifting to VSS and 2X amplification simultaneously, and enables the full range ($Vss{\sim}VDD$) operation. The proposed FWR circuits shows more than 50% reduction of chip area and power consumption compared to conventional one. Proposed circuit was implemented with 0.35um 1-poly 2-metal CMOS process. Core size is $150um{\times}450um$ and power dissipation is 840uW with 3.3V single supply.

Design of Highly Linear Power Amplifier using Bandpass Filter based on Metamaterial Structure (Metamaterial 구조의 대역통과여파기를 이용한 WCDMA 대역 고선형 전력증폭기 설계)

  • In this paper, highly linear power amplifier using bandpass filter based on metamaterial and Composite Right- / Left-Handed (CRLH) structure is proposed. The proposed bandpass filter consist of the series capacitor, series microstrip line and the parallel inductor, parallel microstrip line. The insertion loss is minimized at operation frequency and the $2^{nd}$ harmonic is suppressed by the bandpass filter using the CRLH structure. And we improved the Adjacent Channel Leakage Ratio (ACLR) using the characteristic of the proposed bandpass filter. At 2.14 GHz, we have obtained the output power of 38.83 dBm, the $2^{nd}$ harmonic of .61.33 dBc, the $3^{rd}$ IMD of .54.67 dBc, and ACLR of .51.33 dBc at 5 MHz offset, -56.50 dBc at 10 MHz offset, respectively.
