  • The test results from three one fourth scale models using high strength Reinforced Concrete $f_x=704\;kg/cm^2,\;f_y=5.830\;kg/cm^2$ are presented. Such specimens are considered to represent the critical 3 storics of 60-story tall building of a structural wall system in area of high seismicity respectively. They are tested under inplane vertical and horizontal loading. The main varlable is the level of axial stress. The amounts of vertical and horizontal reinforcement are identical for the three walls testcd. The cross-section of all walls is barbell shape. The aspectratio($h_w/I_w$) of test specimen is 1.8. The aim of the study is to investigate the effects of levels of applied axial stresses on the inelastic behavior of high-strength R /C tall walls. Experimental results of high strength R /C tall walls subjected to axial load and simulated sels rnic loading show that it is possible to insure a ductlle dominant performance by promotmg flex ural yielding of vertical reinforcement and that axial stresses within $O.21f_x$ causes an increase in horizontal load-carrying capacity, initial secant st~ffness characteristics, but an decrease in displacement ductility. energy dissipation index and work damage index of high strength K /C tall walls

  • This paper is to investigate the fracture behavior characteristics of box culvert and incremental crack width of upper slab for the incremental loading by the 3-axis loading system. In the 3-axes loading system, loading directions are upper side, left and right side which simulate earth pressure and static traffic load. With the incremental load, crack patterns is investigated on the upper slab, left and right wall. Especially, on the upper slab, crack width is measured by crack gage. Based on the experimental results, structural internal force indices of box culvert are estimated quantitatively.

  • Shear friction strength model of concrete was proposed to explain the direct friction mechanism at the concrete interfaces intersecting two structural elements. The model was derived from a mechanism analysis based on the upper-bound theorem of concrete plasticity considering the effect of transverse reinforcement and applied axial loads on the shear strength at concrete interfaces. Concrete was modelled as a rigid-perfectly plastic material obeying modified Coulomb failure criteria. To allow the influence of concrete type and maximum aggregate size on the effectiveness strength of concrete, the stress-strain models proposed by Yang et al. and Hordijk were employed in compression and tension, respectively. From the conversion of these stress-strain models into rigidly perfect materials, the effectiveness factor for compression, ratio of effective tensile strength to compressive strength and angle of concrete friction were then mathematically generalized. The proposed shear friction strength model was compared with 91 push-off specimens compiled from the available literature. Unlike the existing equations or code equations, the proposed model possessed an application of diversity against various parameters. As a result, the mean and standard deviation of the ratios between experiments and predictions using the present model are 0.95 and 0.15, respectively, indicating a better accuracy and less variation than the other equations, regardless of concrete type, the amount of transverse reinforcement, and the magnitude of applied axial stresses.

  • The present study simplified the moment-curvature relationship to straightforwardly determine the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) columns. For the idealized column section, moments and neutral axis depths at different stages(first flexural crack, yielding of tensile reinforcing bar, maximum strength, and 80% of the maximum strength at the descending branch) were derived on the basis of the equilibrium condition of forces and compatibility condition. Concrete strains at the extreme compression fiber beyond the maximum strength were determined using the stress-strain relationship of confined concrete, proposed by Kim et al. The lateral load-displacement curves converted from the simplified moment-curvature relationship of columns are well consistent with test results obtained from column specimens under various parameters. The moments and the corresponding neutral axis depth at different stages were formulated as a function of longitudinal reinforcement and transverse reinforcement indices and/or applied axial load index. Overall, curvature ductility of columns was significantly affected by the axial load level as well as concrete compressive strength and the amount of longitudinal and transverse reinforcing bars.

  • This study aims to suggest an appropriate flexural reinforcement technique by evaluating the reinforcement capacity of specimens that underwent flexural reinforcement according to the post-tension method with the anchoring position of an unbonded tension member on the conventional SC composite beam and the applied tension level as variables. For the experiment, up to a predetermined yield load was applied to each type of specimen and then, unbounded post-tensioning was additionally conducted to examine its reinforcement capacity. The analysis of the said experiment showed that the post-reinforced SC composite beam was characterized by significantly improved yield stress and initial stiffness, compared with the pre-reinforced one and the experimental measurements/theoretical values of maximum stress ranged from 0.95 to 1.13 following reinforcement. There was little or no change depending on the maximum stress and tension in the specimen (D160, Class 240) whose neutral axis and upper part had anchoring devices mounted prior to reinforcement. Rather, the ductility decreased with the increasing tension. On the contrary, in the case of the other specimen (Class D120) whose neutral axis had anchoring devices mounted after reinforcement, both the maximum stress and ductility increased with increasing tension, which indicates that the latter tension reinforcement was reasonably appropriate and effective for the neutral axis reinforcement.

  • Maximum-strength concrete-ailed steel square tubular columns were tested under concentric and biaxial eccentric load. Buckling length-section depth ratio $L_k/D$, magnitude of eccentricity e, and angle of eccentric load ${\theta}$ were selected as experimental parameters. Strength and behavior were also examined. Test results showed that the maximum strength of columns under biaxial eccentric load could be predicted using the previously proposed strength formula of columns under uniaxial eccentric load. Likewise, the behavior and maximum strength of columns could be predicted using the analysis.

  • Because the framed wall system using steel studs and runners with square steel tubes as structural elements is reinforced by the horizontal members called runners, it has more strength and load bearing capacity than the steel house wall system. Also, this system improves adiabatic and sound insulation performance by filling up the autoclaved lightweight concrete. We need to evaluate load bearing capacity according to the axial load and lateral load in case this system is applied in the housing system with 3~5 stories through variations in intervals for the runners under the placement effect of autoclaved lightweight concrete. Therefore, this study seeks to analyze axial and shear behavior of the framed wall system according to the placement effect of autoclaved lightweight concrete, and to secure safety for the vertical and lateral loads.

  • The object of this study was a cold-formed steel wall stud panel sheathed by gypsum boards. In the beam-analysis, the panel was treated as a simple beam with a uniform lateral loading. The deflections were calculated by considering the primary factors that reduced the stiffness of the panel. In the column-analysis, the panel was treated as a bearing wall with an axial load. By using an energy method, nominal axial strength could be evaluated by considering both flexural buckling and torsional-flexural buckling. All calculations were programmed and compared with the results of the experiment. In the beam-analysis, experimental deflections were close to theoretical deflections. In the column-analysis, the experimental values were also close to theoretical values in axial strength.
