Hybrid rocket shows interesting characteristics of complicated mixing layers developed by interactions between turbulent oxidizer flow and mass flow from surface due to fuel vaporization. In this study, compressible LES with a ring structure attached at the entrance of the combustor are performed. According to one recent report, adding a ring structure in the middle of the combustor helps increasing regression rate. From the numerical results, it is seen that vortex structures near the wall becomes stronger due to the interaction with surface mass injection, and the local heat flux increases due to the vortices. This phenomenon is obviously related to the generation of dimple structures which are seen in the number of experiments. Also, the ring structure at the entrance induces strong vortex flow which enhances heat transfer to the wall surface and mixing between fuel and oxidizer as well as reaction efficiency.

This study investigated the structural performance of the RC boundary beam-wall system subjected to axial loads that required lesser construction quantity and smaller floor height in comparison with the conventional RC transfer girder system. Four specimens of 1/2 scale were constructed, and their peak strengths under axial loads and failure characteristics were compared and analyzed. Test parameters included the ratio of the lower to the upper wall length, lower wall thickness, and stirrup details of the lower wall. In addition, three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis was performed to verify the effectiveness of the boundary beam-wall system. The peak strength of each specimen was similar to the nominal axial strength of the lower wall, indicating that the axial load was transferred smoothly from the upper to the lower wall. The contribution of the lower wall cross-section was high if the ratio of the lower to the upper wall length was small; the contribution was low if the out-of-plane eccentricity existed in the lower wall. The specimen with smaller stirrup distance and cross-ties in the lower wall showed higher initial stiffness and peak load than other specimens.

Nowadays JPEG encoder uses block based DCT and quantization to compress the size of still image. JPEG encoding method performs better compression efficiency than the other still image encoding method. However, when encoding a still image at low bit-rate, high frequency coefficients could be lost because of the coarse quantization so the blocking artifacts occur. In this paper, we propose the method of eliminating the blocking artifacts which occur when the still image is encoded by JPEG at a high compression rate. The principle of proposed algorithm is that the eliminating the blocking artifacts, which occur in the boundary of blocks, in DCT domain with $4{\times}4$ block-based method. First of all, observe the blocking artifacts with $4{\times}4$ block in DCT domain. Then eliminate the blocking effects using effective filtering method that is $4{\times}4$ block-based. Experimental results have clearly shown that our algorithm presents substantially higher quality in subjective and objective point of view than the other algorithms.
Recently, EPS which has unit weight of only 20~30kg/m3, is used for acquiring the safety of settlement and bearing capacity, In Korea, EPS was first used in 1993 as backfill material for abutment that was constructed on soft ground in Inchon. Since then EPS has been used increasingly as backfill material. However, adequate modelling has not yet been proposed for the prediction of the behavior of EPS. Only it's design strength was proposed as the results of unconfined strength and creep test. Accordingly this paper executed triaxial compression test on EPS with various density and confining pressure. Through the analysis of test data the behavior of EPS for strainstress, tangential modulus and poisson's ratio can be expressed in functions with parameters of density and confining pressure of EPS. From these results, this paper proposed a nonliner model describing the behavior of EPS.

Isolated structures use devices such as high damping rubber bearings (HDRB) in order to dramatically reduce the seismic forces transmitted from the substructure to the superstructure. The laminated rubber bearing is the most important structural member of a seismic isolation system. The basic characteristics of rubber bearings have been confirmed through compression tests, compressive shearing tests and creep tests. This paper presents the results and analysis of a 1000hr, ongoing creep test conducted at 7.5MPa, 8.37MPa in our laboratory. The long-term behavior of bridge bearings, such as high-damping rubber bearings, will be discovered through a compression creep test subjected to actual environmental conditions. These tests indicated that the maximum creep deformation is about $0.3{\sim}1.92%$ of total rubber thickness.

For the reliable design of the structural concrete by the strut-tie model approaches of current design codes, the effective strengths of concrete struts must be determined with sufficient accuracy. Many values and equations for the effective strengths have been suggested until now. As those are for the two-dimensional concrete struts, however, it is inappropriate to employ them in the strut-tie model designs of three-dimensional structural concretes. In this study, an approach, that determines the effective strengths of three-dimensional concrete struts consistently and accurately by reflecting the state of 3-dimensional stresses, the 3-dimensional failure criteria of concrete, the degree of cracks (or tensile strains of reinforcing bars crossing the struts), the strut's longitudinal length, the deviation angle between strut orientation and compressive principal stress flow, compressive strength of concrete, and the degree of concrete confinement by reinforcing bars, is proposed. To examine the validity of the proposed approach, the ultimate strength analyses of 115 reinforced concrete pile caps tested to failure by previous investigators were conducted by the ACI 318-11's strut-tie model approach with the existing and proposed effective strengths of concrete struts.
The object of this study is to experimentally investigate the structural behavior of circular tube column bases under axial loads and to ascertain the test results using elastic numerical analysis. A literature survey was conducted on the AISC design code and a few design formulae. Tests were axially conducted under compressive loads. The thickness of the base plate was the main parameter of the specimens. Nine base plate specimens were used, with thicknesses ranging from 9 millimeters to 35 millimeters. The relationship of the load and the vertical displacement of base plates and the relationship of the load and the strain of the base plates were tested. Ansys version 6.1 was used for the elastic numerical analysis, to ascertain the test results. he test results and the elastic numerical analysis results will be used to suggest design formulae for inelastic numerical analyses that will be conducted later on.

Due to single symmetry of cross section, T-shaped members are likely to buckle in a flexural-torsional mode when they are subjected to axial compression. Therefore, the flexural-torsional buckling can be regarded as a governing mode of global buckling. An experimental program has been carried out to investigate the flexural-torsional buckling behavior of pultruded T-shaped members. Two types of pultruded members were tested in the experiment, and they were made of either E-glass/vinylester or E-glass/polyester. Lay-up and thickness of reinforcing layers, volume fractions of each constituents in layers, mechanical properties were experimentally determined. Two sets of knife edge fixure were used to simulate simple support condition for flexure and twisting, and the lateral displacements and the angle of twist were measured using three potentiometers. Every specimen buckled in a flexural-torsional mode, and most of the specimens showed post-buckling strength.
The first Korean cold room facility for ice mechanics experiments was assembled in 2004. Since then, the $4m{\times}6m$ cold room facility has been used, extensively under various environmental and loading conditions. After reviewing published references on cold room testing methods and also by trial and error, the standard procedures for testing and preparing laboratory ice material were established for the measurement of basic ice properties. In this paper, laboratory experimental techniques with the cold room facility and standard procedures established for ice material properties are introduced. Test specimens include laboratory-grown fresh water ice and frozen soils. Tests are carried out for unconfined compressive strength. Preparation and dimension of the specimen are the most important issues arising in cold room tests. The details of specimen preparation, testing procedure and strength test results are also discussed.

Various types of ice distribution under low temperature greatly influence the environment of the Arctic and Antarctic Oceans. To understand fundamentals of ice properties such as Polar glaciers, icebergs and sea ice, this study focuses on the material behaviors and failure mechanisms of polycrystalline ice. Utilizing the continuum damage theory, a three-dimensional constitutive model to describe creep deformation characteristics in the glacial flow is developed in consideration of micro-cracking as the major physical process of ice deformation. The numerical model is compared with the published experimental data especially in uniaxial constant stress creep tests. The model can simulate primary and secondary creeps as well as tertiary creep characteristics due to the microcrack accumulation.
