  • The output of Korea's livestock industry represents about 40% of the total agricultural production, making it the most high value-added sector in the entire agricultural and forestry industry. However, the fatal epidemics such as foot-and-mouth disease and avian influenza spurs demands for the advanced management of livestock production with IT technologies. U-Livestock means the application of ubiquitous technologies to livestock production. In this study, U-Livestock service models are established on the basis of the life cycle of livestock by using local and overseas cases. The objectives, contents, and structures of service models are required to be designed in detail respectively. The integration of such service models is expected to he1p modernize the livestock industry and raise the productivity of sector.

  • Recently, livestock farms in Korea are introducing data-based technologies to improve productivity, such as livestock environment and breeding management, safe livestock production, and animal welfare. In addition, the government has been conducting a smart livestock distribution project since 2017 through the modernization of ICT-based livestock facilities in order to improve the productivity of livestock products and improve the livestock environment as a policy. However, the current smart livestock house has limitations in connection, diversity, and integration between monitoring and control. Therefore, in order to intelligently systemize all processes of livestock with intelligent algorithms and remote control in order to link and integrate various monitoring and control, the Internet of Things, big data, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and mobile It is necessary to develop a smart livestock system. In this study, domestic and foreign research trends related to smart livestock based on intelligent information technology were introduced and the limitations of domestic application of advanced technologies were analyzed. Finally, future intelligent information technology applicable to the livestock field was examined.

  • The average concentrations of COD and copper in the livestock sludge are $930,726{\pm}380.801$ mg/kg and $679{\pm}341$ mg/kg, respectively. Due to the high concentrations, dumping to the sea of the sludge could pose potential adverse effects to the marine environment. On the contrary, it could have economic advantages on land as the energy of biogas generated by decomposition of organisms and the compost in case of the sludge of good quality with the abundant nitrogen and phosphorus. Nevertheless, the amount of livestock sludge dumped to the sea in Korea increased sharply from 51,000 $m^3$ in 1997 to 2,745,000 $m^3$ in 2005. And also it had the high proportion of 27% in total amount of waste dumped into the sea (7,451,000 $m^3$) in 2007. It might cost between 20,000 won and 33,000 won to dump to the sea of the sludge. In comparison, it might cost 20,000 won to com- post the sludge. And its purification treatment even might cost just 10,000 won. It means that the disposal of the sludge at sea is the most expensive method to deal with the sludge, but ranchers, who engage in the livestock industry, still prefer the disposal at sea to the other methods on land such as the compost and purification treatment. In this article, therefore, we would analyze various factors in the ranchers' preference for the disposal of the sludge at sea, and then we could suggest some legal improvements to prevent and reduce pollution of the sea.

  • This study was performed to identify the prevalence of cryptosporidiosis and giardiasis in diarrhea feces of Korean native calves raised in Gimje, Jeollabuk-do, with a rapid diagnostic kit. The prevalence of both diseases were classified according to the age of calf, season of sampling period, and sampled farm where diarrheic calf is commonly observed. In diarrhea feces of 431 calves, cryptosporidiosis had a high incidence rate between 1 and 3 weeks of age, whereas giardiasis showed a high incidence between 4 and 6 weeks of age. It is thought that the incidence of protozoan diseases is markedly influenced by the calf's postnatal age. Regarding with the sampling season, the prevalence of cryptosporidiosis and giardiasis in calves was significantly higher in spring and summer than in autumn and winter (P<0.05). Among the sampled farms where both diseases are commonly observed, cryptosporidiosis was more frequently detected than giardiasis in calves. Particularly, in farms where cryptosporidiosis is common, it tends to be a disease that is difficult to eradicate as it occurs continuously throughout the year. Hygiene management such as regular cleaning and disinfection of the livestock and the surrounding environments is considered necessary to reduce and prevent damage from these protozoal diseases.

  • Recently, consumers' taste has been diversified, consumption pattern has changed, and product package design has been gradually developed. The product packaging design should be made to be able to know the contents accurately, and it should have the charm that attracts consumers' attention and makes them want to buy the goods. In addition, product design should motivate consumers to buy according to brand naming, package layout, content expression method, taste color, as well as graphic elements that induce visual effects. The graphic elements that express the image of the contents in a package design of the product at a glance are the most essential elements to enhance the value added of the product and to induce the purchase motivation and rationalization of the consumer. This study is a study on visual image symbol image using visual information metadata in livestock products. It examines cases of various livestock packages and presents graphical elements that can visualize livestock images at a glance as metadata elements. We will pursue the premiumization of livestock products, raise brand value, and offer differentiating design strategies for economic benefits as well as potential for revitalizing the livestock market.

  • There are approximately 250,000 organic livestock farming in the world. The total retail value of organic food sales in the world is $ 27 billion. The organic livestock products such as milk, lamb and beef are marketed mostly in Europe and the USA. The market share of organic food is about 2% in total food marketing value of worldwide and of the organic food marketing value, organic livestock products portioned 17% in the USA. The organic livestock products are primarily marketed at Supermarket(Europe), Health and Natural Food store(USA). Concerning international trade, it is very little. But it is increasing among the developed counties of Europe. In the future, the production of organic livestock products will be rapidly increased in South America, Middle East and Oceania, but the growth rate will be limited due to its expensive price, lack of marketing-infra and different regulation system. Most of developed countries drive organic farming policy strongly as the strategic means of rural development, diversifying agriculture system and environmental improvement.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the technological levels of the domestic industries manufacturing the machinery and equipment for livestock production facilities and to lay out a scheme for upgrading the technical improvement. The results of this study are as follows : 1 . According to the study results, the technological levels of the domestic industries for livestock production facilities lag far behind those of the advanced countries in this field. 2. It was found that the ratio engaged in the areas of R&D was 10.7% and lower than that engaged in the other areas and the ratio of junior college graduated engineers engaged in the areas of research and design was 44.4%. Therefore, the amounts of investment for the areas of R&D and design should be increased. 3. In the design area, it was found from the study that the most weakness technologies which should be developed in near future were the universal harvester and the mechanical designing. Therefore, the multipurpose universal harvester suitable to the domestic farmland conditions should be developed and strength, hardness, and durability of materials in the mechanical designing should be improved.

  • In this paper, we propose a new traceability system that integrates ubiquitous sensor network for monitoring agricultural environment. The proposed system using EPC network can provide informations of agro-livestock products traceability quickly and efficiently. Moreover, this system with RFID Technology gives intelligence of distribution and record. Because of new agro-livestock products traceability system, farm family's income will increase with customer satisfaction.
