Browning Inhibition and Quality Characteristics of Minimally Processed Mushroom (Agaricus bisporus Sing) Using Extracts from Natural Materials during Storage (천연 추출물을 이용한 최소가공 양송이버섯 (Agaricus bisporus Sing)의 갈변저해 및 저장 중 품질특성)

  • Various quality characteristics of minimally processed mushroom were measured to select appropriate browning inhibitor. The treatment of extracts from Asparagi radix, cassia and kiwi on mushrooms have a high effectiveness like ascorbic acid or cysteine, known as a good chemical antibrowning agent. As a results of physical quality characteristics of minimally processed mushroom during storage, 1% cysteine and Asparagi radix were highly effective on degree of browning. Total phenol content and polyphenol oxidase activity showed slight differences among the mushroom treated with each browning inhibitors, but it has gradually increased during storage. Thus, these results suggest browning inhibitors from natural materials can be alternatives to prevent browning on mushrooms instead of chemical browning inhibitors including ascorbic acid or cysteine, has been widely used for antibrowning agent.

Cosmetic Effect of Mixed Plant Extracts Including Saururus Chinensis, Morus Bombycis Stem and Morus Papyrifera Stem (삼백초, 뽕나무 줄기, 닥나무 줄기 등을 함유한 복합수목추출물의 화장품소재 특성)

  • In this study, plant extracts including 25% Saururus chinensis, 20% Morus bombycis stem and 20% Morus papyrifera stem were tested to use as possible cosmetic agent. As cosmetic effect test, cell toxicity test, elastase inhibition assay, tyrosinase inhibition assay, anti-oxidation assay and temperature stability test were done as cosmetic assays. Plant extract showed low cell toxicity, excellent elastase inhibition and anti-oxidation effect, however, tyrosinase inhibition effect was lower. Skin, lotion and essence formulation was made using plant extracts and temperature stability test was done. Skin and essence indicated good stability, however, lotion showed phase separation and severe viscosity variation, which means lotion formulation change. From the research, plant extracts including Saururus chinensis, Morus bombycis stem and Morus papyrifera stem were suitable for possible cosmetic agent.

홍화자 추출물의 치주 경조직 재생 촉진 효과

  • 최근 치의학 영역에서 사용되는 천연물 특히 생약제에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. Scutellariae Radix, Centella asiatica 등이 치주인대세포의 활성을 증가시키고 홍삼사포닌이 배양한 치주인대세포의 성장, 분화에 관계된다는 보고 등이 이에 해당된다. 본 연구에서는 홍화자 메탄을 추출물과 키토산의 치주인대 세포의 증식, 분화, 석회물 결정 생성 촉진작용을 검토하여 치주경조직 재생 약물로서의 사용여부를 보고자 하였다. 치주인대 세포는 교정치료목적으로 경희의료원에 내원한 환자의 제1 소구치를 발거하고 치근시작점에서 중앙으로 1/3되는 지점에서 치주인대 조직을 절취하여 1차 배양하였다. 실험에는 계대배양하여 5-7 세대의 세포를 사용하였다.

Rooibos Extract Effect on the Seborrheic Scalp Improvement of Middle-Aged Men (루이보스 추출물이 중년 남성의 지루성 두피 개선에 미치는 효과)

  • This study conducted a 4-week clinical trial on 30 males suffering from seborrheic dermatitis and hair loss symptoms to examine the effects of rooibos extract on the seborrheic dermatitis improvement of 30-50 year old middle aged males. The comparison group used shampoo with no rooibos extract while experiment group 1 used shampoo including rooibos extracts, and experiment group 2 used shampoo and scalp enhancer including the rooibos extracts. The results showed that there were no meaningful changes on the scalps of the comparison group while experiment group 2, which used both shampoo and scalp enhancer including rooibos, showed better improvement on seborrheic dermatitis than experiment group 1 which only used shampoo including rooibos. These results imply that shampoo and scalp enhancer including rooibos extracts effectively improve the oil-moisture balance on seborrheic dermatitis and effectively deals with scalp itchiness redness and the color tone of the scalp, suggesting its use in scalp cosmetics that include antioxidation activation elements, which are effective in improving seborrheic dermatitis.

Physicochemical Characteristics of Antidementia Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitor-containing Methanol Extract from Sorghum bicolor and Industrial Application (항치매성 Acetylcholinesterase저해물질을 함유하고 있는 수수 메탄올 추출물의 특성 및 산업적 응용)

  • Alzheimer's disease is charaterized by the acetylcholine depletion, amyloid b-protein aggregation and neurofibrillary tangles. The prevention of the breakdown of acetylcholine by acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor has the best clinically therapeutic efficacy for Alzheimer's disease patients. To develop new antidementia alternative drugs or nutraceuticals, methanol extracts of Sorghum bicolor was screened from various extracts of cereals and legumes as a potent AChE inhibitor-containing extract in previous paper. In this paper, physicochemical properties of the methanol extracts was investigated. The methanol extracts was soluble by water, methanol and DMSO and had 215 nm and 282nm of maximum absorption spectra. It was also stable at 20-$100^{\circ}C$ and pH 2.0-10.0 for 1 hr. Test product was prepared by using methanol extracts from Sorghum bicolor and changes of its quality during storge at $20^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$ were investigated. It was very stable for 8 weeks at $40^{\circ}C$.

The Natural Hair Dyeing using Extracts of the Pueraria thunbergiana Root (칡뿌리 추출물을 이용한 천연 모발염색)

  • Recently. dyeing by harmless natural materials has received much attention due to the side-effects occurred from dyeing by synthetic dyes. In this study, we examined the effect of extracts of Pueraria thunbergiana (P. thunbergiana) roots, which are treated as natural products as well as agricultural wastes, on the hair dyeing by measuring dyeing interval, temperature, density changes, mordant and chromatic faction. The hair dyeing by the extracts significantly reduced hair damage and kept cuticle of hair softer than that by synthetic dyes. In addition, since a mordant is one of the necessary additives in dyeing, the role of a mordant was studied and concluded to be a supplementary substance based on the results that the hair dyeing by the extracts of P. thunbergiana roots alone was much darker than the others. Taken together, the data presented in this study suggest that the extracts of P. thunbergiana roots are is less damageable to hair and thus can be more safely applicable to hair dyes than that by synthetic dyes.

Effects of Lavender Extract on Damaged Hair (라벤더 추출물이 손상모발에 미치는 영향)

  • This study attempted to investigate the effect of manufacturing a formulation with lavender extract and applying it to damaged hair. The experimental material was prepared by adding 0 g, 3 g 6 g, and 9 g of lavender extract to the perm base agent. The prepared formulation was applied to four damaged hair samples and compared and analyzed. As a measurement method for the effect on damaged hair, tensile strength, absorbance using methylene blue, and gloss were measured. Statistical analysis was conducted for the reliability of the research results. The tensile strength measurement results showed that the tensile strength of the sample applied with a formulation containing 6 g and 9 g at 8 levels increased, affecting damaged hair. As a result of absorbance analysis using methylene blue, it was found that the absorbance of all samples applied by adding extracts decreased, affecting damaged hair. The gloss measurement results showed that the addition of 9 g affected the damaged hair. In conclusion, it can be seen that lavender extract affects damaged hair, so it is considered to have an effect of improving Damage hair.

  • Cholesterol-containing surfactant was synthesized, and it was sonicated with monomer in water to form a vesicle solution. This vesicle solution was dried to construct a membrane which had a molecular multilayer structure. Using UV irradiation the monomer in this membrane were polymerized, and then surfactant was extracted by organic solvent. Using a X-ray diffractometer, the thickness of one layer and the regularity of the multilayer were measured. And scanning electron microscopy was conducted for fractured polymer film.

  • 컴퓨터 및 주변기기의 성능이 발전함에 따라 영상처리에 대한 관심이 높아지고, 영상으로부터 원하는 정보를 얻기 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 이러한 연구에서 움직임 추적, 특정 사물 추출, 동영상 검색 등으로 정보를 추출하는 과정은 높은 시스템 자원을 요구하기 때문에 멀티태스킹이 어렵다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 시스템 자원의 사용을 최소화하는 제스쳐 인식시스템을 설계하고 구현한다. 이 시스템은 동적테이블 마스킹을 이용하여 노이즈를 제거하고, 가이드라인 인식 방법을 적용하여 손동작 제스쳐를 인식한다, 또한 안면 비율 분할 방법과 음영 측정 방법을 이용하여 눈과 입술의 제스쳐를 인식한다.

Enfluence of Herbal Extract on Lactic Acid Bacteria Growth and Cryoprotectants (생약 추출물이 유산균의 생육 및 동결건조 보호제로서의 효과)

  • Extract of Eleutherococcus senticosus, Lycium chinensis, Angelica acutiloba and Schizandra chinensis were investigated to determine whether its addition may inflict on growth of lactic acid bacteria, freeze dry and cell viability during the storage. In cultivation with herbal extract, all strains tested did not demonstrate a significant reduction in their cell population, particularly Lactobacillus. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. paracasei. But Schizandra chinensis extract inhibited growth of several strains. Immediately after freeze-drying using the skim milk 10%(w/v), sucrose 5%(w/v) with herbal extract 2.5%(v/v), the percentage viability was about 81.7%, 63.8%, 73.2%, 78.1 % in L. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. paracasei, L. casei respectively. The protective effect of herbal extract to cell damage from freeze-drying was weak in comparison with control. During accelerated storage of freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria, those survival rate decrease rapidly, reaching 8 -18% in one month. But addition of Eleutherococcus senticosus extract in freeze dry of L. acidophilus showed a positive activity in storage.
