  • In the case of a conventional single stage decompression regulator used for large depressurization in the hydrogen fuel cell system of a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), problems can arise, such as pulsation, slow response, hydrogen brittleness, leakage, high weight, and high cost due to high decompression. Most of these problems can be overcome easily using two decompression mechanisms (two-stage structures). In addition, a wide outlet-pressure control range can be secured if an electronic solenoid is applied to the second decompression. Accordingly, it is necessary to improve the precision of the outlet pressure of a two-stage pressure-reducing regulator and develop techniques, such as leakage prevention, durability, light weight, and price reduction. Therefore, to improve the outlet pressure accuracy and prevent leakage, the structural part before and after decompression to improve the air tightness were divided and the analysis was carried out assuming that the valve part was closed (open ratio: 0%) after each initial internal pressure application.

  • Valves are one of the most important components of a pipeline system in a nuclear power plant, and it is important to ensure their structural safety under seismic loads. A crucial aspect of structural safety verification is the seismic qualification, and therefore, an optimal shape design and experimental seismic qualification is necessary in case the configuration of the valve parts needs to be modified and their performance needs to be improved. Recently, intensive numerical analyses have been performed before the experimental verification in order to determine the appropriate design variables that satisfy the performance requirements under seismic loads. In this study, static and dynamic numerical structural analyses of a 200A butterfly valve for a nuclear power plant were performed according to the KEPIC MFA. The result of static analysis considering an equivalent static load under SSE condition gave an applied stress of 135 MPa. In addition, the result of dynamic analysis gave an applied stress of 183 MPa, where the CQC method using response spectrums was taken into account. These values are under the allowable strength of the materials used for manufacturing the butterfly valve, and therefore, its structural safety satisfies the requirements of KEPIC MFA.

  • Safety issues in Li-ion battery system have been prime concerns, as demands for power supply device applicable to wearable device, electrical vehicles and energy storage system have increased. To solve safety problems, promising strategy is to replace organic liquid electrolyte with non-flammable solid electrolyte, leading to the development of all-solid-state battery. However, relative low conductivity and high resistance from rigid solid-solid interface hinder a wide application of solid electrolyte. Composite electrolytes composed of organic and inorganic parts could be alternative solution, which in turn bring about the increase of conductivity and conformal contact at physically rough interfaces. In our study, composite electrolytes were prepared by combining poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO) and $Li_7La_3Zr_2O_{12}$ (LLZO). The crystallinity, morphology and electrochemical performances were investigated with the control of LLZO contents from 0 wt% to 50 wt%. From the results, it is concluded that optimum content and uniform dispersion of LLZO in polymer matrix are significant to improve overall conductivity of composite electrolyte.

  • Gallium, a key material in TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) targets and LED (Light Emitting Diode), is highly sought after due to its scarcity, making the recovering and recycling from waste resources. This study develops a process to recover high-purity gallium contained in an alkaline electrolyte and to produce gallium oxide nanopowder for IGZO (Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide) targets. Through an investigation of the electrowinning process conditions, the effects of various process factors and the optimal conditions are identified. It is found that the concentration of NaOH significantly affects purity. By employing two rounds of electrowinning followed by acid washing, gallium with a purity of over 99.995 % is successfully recovered. Using this recovered gallium as a starting material, gallium oxide is produced via a gas-phase synthesis. It is observed that while higher temperatures increase the yield, the purity decreases. Ultimately, at 1,260℃, gallium oxide nanopowder with a purity exceeding 99.995 % is obtained with a yield close to 90 %. The gallium oxide nanopowder predominantly exhibits a size of approximately 2 ㎛ and a spherical shape, suggesting favorable characteristics for subsequent processes such as sintering.
