Discrete Optimum Design of Ship Structures by Genetic Algorithm (유전적 알고리즘에 의한 선체 구조물의 이산적 최적설계)

  • Though optimization method had been used for long time for the optimal design of ship structure, design variables in the most cases were assumed to be continuous real values or it was not easy to solve the mixed integer optimum design problems using the conventional optimization methods. Thus, it was often tried to use various initial starting points to locate the best optimum paint and to use special method such as branch and bound method to handle the discrete design variables in the optimization problems. Sometimes it had succeed, but the essential problems for dealing with the local optimum and discrete design variables was left unsolved. Hence, in this paper, Genetic Algorithms adopting the biological evolution process is applied to the ship structural design problem where the integer values for the number of stiffen design variables or the discrete values for the plate thickness variables would be more preferable in order to find out their effects on the final optimum design. Through the numerical result comparisons, it was found that Genetic Algorithm could always yield the global optimum for the discrete and mixed integer structural optimization problem cases even though it takes more time than other methods.

  • 통신 시스템에 대한 관심은 인터넷의 급격한 발전에 의해 가상공간의 출현과 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 환경 구축에 대한 요구가 증대됨에 따라 관련 이론 및 기술의 발전을 주도해 왔다. 이와 관련하여 가장 근간이 되는 문제들 중 하나는 최적 정보 통신 스패닝 트리 (OCST: Optimal Communication Spanning Tree) 설계 문제이다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 OCST 설계 문제를 네트워크 신뢰도를 고려하여 해결하기 위해 유전 알고리즘 (GA)를 이용한다. 본 논문에서는 유전 알고리즘을 이용함에 있어서 n개의 노드들로 구성된 네트워크 문제에서 n-2개의 숫자열로 표현 가능한 유전자 표현법을 이용하고 신뢰성 있는 OCST 설계 문제 해결을 위한 해법으로서 유전 알고리즘을 제안한다. 임의로 생성된 예제에 대한 수치 실험을 통해 통신시스템의 기본 문제 중 하나인 OCST 설계 문제의 해법으로서의 제안 알고리즘의 유용성과 효율성을 확인한다.

Shape Design Optimization Using Isogeometric Analysis (등기하 해석법을 이용한 형상 최적설계)

  • In this paper, a shape design optimization method for linearly elastic problems is developed using isogeometric approach. In many design optimization problems for practical engineering models, initial raw data usually come from a CAD modeler. Then, designers should convert the CAD data into finite element mesh data since most of conventional design optimization tools are based on finite element analysis. During this conversion, there are some numerical errors due to geometric approximation, which causes accuracy problems in response as well as design sensitivity analyses. As a remedy for this phenomenon, the isogeometric analysis method can be one of the promising approaches for the shape design optimization. The main idea of isogeometric approach is that the basis functions used in analysis is exactly the same as the ones representing the geometry. This geometrically exact model can be used in the shape sensitivity analysis and design optimization as well. Therefore the shape design sensitivity with high accuracy can be obtained, which is very essential for a gradient-based optimization. Through numerical examples, it is verified that the shape design optimization based on an isogeometic approach works well.

Optimal Positioning of Heating Lines in a Compression Molding Die Using the Boundary Element Method (경계요소법을 이용한 압축성형다이 가열선의 최적위치 설계)

  • A shape optimization problem is formulated to determine the optimal position of heating lines in a compression molding die. The objective of the problem is that the cavity surface would be maintained by a prescribed uniform temperature. A boundary integral equation for the sensitivity of the temperature in terms of hole position is derived using the method of shape design sensitivity analysis. The boundary element method is employed to analyze the temperature and sensitivity field of the die. The sensitivity calculation algorithm is incorporated in an optimization routine. To demonstrate a numerical implementation, an example problem arising in thermal design of a compression molding die is dealt with, showing that the number of heating lines chosen for the die strongly affects the ultimate uniformity of the cavity surface temperature.

Structural Design Optimization of Dynamic Crack Propagation Problems Using Peridynamics (페리다이나믹스를 이용한 균열진전 문제의 구조 최적설계)

  • Based on a bond-based peridynamics theory for dynamic crack propagation problems, this paper presents a design sensitivity analysis and optimization method. Peridynamics has a peculiar advantage over the existing continuum theory in the mathematical modelling of problems where discontinuities arise. For the design optimization of the crack propagation problems, a non-shape design sensitivity is derived using the adjoint variable method. The obtained adjoint sensitivity of displacement and strain energy turns out to be very accurate and efficient compared to the finite different sensitivity. The obtained design sensitivities are futher utilized to optimally control the position of bifurcation point in the design optimization of crack propagation in a plate under tension. A numerical experiment demonstrates that the optimal distribution of material density could delay the position of bifurcation.

  • Computer applications for engineering design evolve rapidly. Many design frameworks were developed by the simulation based systems so that organizations could achieve significant benefits due to cost reduction in designing. However, today’s transient design issue requires being adaptable to more complicated and atypical problems. In this paper the Multidisciplinary Language Runtime (MLR) design framework is developed. The MLR provides flexible and extensible interface between analysis modules and numerical analysis codes. It also supports Meta Modeling, Meta Variable, and XML script for atypical design formulation. By applying object-oriented design scheme to implement abstractions of the key components required for iterative systems analyses, the MLR provides flexible and extensible problem-solving environment.

  • In this paper, we have derived a continuum-based adjoint design sensitivity of general performance functionals with respect to Young' modulus and heat conduction coefficient for steady-state nonlinear thermoelastic problems. An adjoint equation for temperature and displacement fields is defined for the efficient computation of the coupled field design sensitivity. Through numerical examples, we investigated the mesh dependency of the topology optimization method in the thermoelastic problems. Also, comparing the dominant loading cases of thermal and mechanical ones, the loading dependency of topology design optimization in coupled multi-physics problems is investigated.

  • Since the use of computer for the ship structural design around mid 1960``s, specially many researches on the midship section optimum design were carried out from 1980. For a rule-based optimum design case, there has been a problem of handling a discrete design variable such as plate thickness for a practical use. To deal with the discrete design variable problems and to develop an effective new method using artificial neural network for the ship structural design applications, Neuro-Optimizer combing Hopfield Neural Network and other Simulated Annealing is proposed as a new optimization method and then applied to the fundamental skeletal structures and Midship section of Tanker. From the numerical results, it is confirmed that Neuro-Optimizer could be used effectively as a new optimization method for the structural design.

Development of a Continuous Network Design Model Based on Sensitivity Analysis (민감도 분석을 이용한 연속형 교통망설계모형의 개발)

  • 교통망설계문제란, 교통시스템을 최적상태로 만들기 위한 최적의 설계변수를 결정하는 문제이다. 대표적인 교통망설계문제로는 도로를 신설하거나 확장하는 문제가 있으며, 이외에 교통신호시간의 결정, 교통정보의 제공, 혼잡통행료 부과, 새로운 교통수단의 도입 등 여러 교통정책분야가 교통망설계문제에 포함된다고 볼 수 있다. 일반적으로 교통망설계문제는 bi-level 구조로 구축되는데, 기존 대부분의 연구들은 상위문제와 하위문제를 서로 협력없이(Noncooperative) 자신들만의 목적을 최적화시키는 Cournot-Nash게임형태로 구성하여 풀고 있으나, 실제 교통분야에서 다루는 문제들은 리더(leader)와 추종자(follower)가 존재하는 Stackelberg게임에 가깝다고 할 수 있다. 기존 bi-level 문제들이 Cournot-Nash게임형태로 구성되어 풀고 있는 이유는 Stackelberg게임으로 구성할 경우 풀기가 어렵기 때문이다. 이런 측면에서 본 연구는 리더와 추종자가 존재하는 Stackelberg게임으로 교통망설계문제를 구성하며, 설계 변수값에 따른 통행자의 행태변화도 인지오차(perceived error)를 고려한 확률적 통행배정문제로 구성하여 좀더 현실적인 결과를 도출하도록 한다. 제시된 모형을 풀기 위하여 민감도분석(Sensitivity analysis)을 이용하며, 설계문제의 해를 구하는 알고리듬도 제시한다. 또한, 이 기법을 일반 도로교통망(general transportation road network)에 적용할 수 있도록 민감도(sensitivity) 유도과정을 자세히 기술하였다. 개발된 모형을 평가하기 위하여 2개의 예제 교통망을 대상으로 모형을 적용한 결과, 합리적인 값들을 도출하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
