Optimization of Array Configuration in Time Reversal Processing (시역전 처리에서 센서 배열 최적화에 관한 연구)

  • A time-reversal mirror (TRM) is useful in diverse areas, such as reverberation ing, target echo enhancement and underwater communication. In underwater communication, the bit error rate has been improved significantly due to the increased signal-to-noise ratio by spatio-temporal focusing. This paper deals with two issues. First, the optimal number of array elements for a given environment was investigated based on the exploitation of spatial diversity. Second, an algorithm was developed to determine the optimal location of the given number of array elements. The formulation is based on a genetic algorithm maximizing the contrast between the foci and area of interest as an objective function. In addition, the developed algorithm was applied to the matched field processing with ocean experimental data for verification. The sea-going data and simulation showed almost 3 dB improvement in the output power at the foci when the array elements were optimally distributed.

  • In piezoelectric ultrasonic linear array transducers widely used for diagnosis, the cross talk caused by the structural cross-coupling between adjacent elements inside the transducer affects the probe performance in a significant manner. In this study, we constructed a finite element model of a piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer, and analyzed its cross talk level with respect to the shape of and materials inside the kerf, The results of this work can be utilized in optimal design of the transducers for medical diagonosis and treatment as well as W applications.

A Study on the Optimum Design of Rectangular Slotted Waveguide Antenna (구형도파관 슬롯배열 안테나의 최적 설계에 관한 연구)

  • The design method of the center-fed resonant type slotted waveguide antenna using the Dolph-Tschebyscheff array is presented. Slot admittances are obtained by empirical and theoretical method since the effect of mutual coupling between slots is included. We design a slotted waveguide antenna which has 1.8ft. length and operates on 9.4GHz. The experimental results of the antenna show that its gain, maximum sidelobe level and half power beam-width are 25.5dB, -22dB and 3.6deg., respectively.

Synthesis of Linear Antenna Array Patterns with Multiple Broad Nulls Using Schelkunoff Polynomial (Schelkunoff 다항식을 사용한 다중의 넓은 Null들을 가지는 선형 배열 안테나 패턴 합성)

  • In this paper, a method for synthesizing the linear antenna array patterns with broad nulls(BN) at the interference directions is newly presented. Opposit to the conventional methods in which the weights of array elements are optimized for BN control, this method simplifies the control process for multiple BN directions and widths by optimally perturbing the zero positions inherent to Schelkunoff polynomial transformed from the array factor. It is also shown that this method can be easily applicable to the phased array antennas. The proposed scheme is numerically verified by substituting the extracted complex weights into the array factor.

  • 최근 처리해야 하는 정보의 양의 급속히 배가됨에 따라 디스크 배열(disk array) 시스템에서 사용하는 디스크의 수가 증가되는 경향을 보이고 있다. 그러나 많은 수의 디스크를 이용하여 디스크 배열을 구성하게 되면 디스크 오류 발생 확률을 높이는 결과로 이어지게 된다. 이 논문에서는 많은 수의 디스크를 사용하는 환경에서도 높은 신뢰성을 제공하기 위하여 DH(Diagornal-Horizontal) 기법이라 불리는 두가지 형태의 이중 패리티 배치 기법들을 제안한다 제안한 기법들은 사선 패리티와 수평 패리티를 인코딩하여 이용함으로써 디스크 배열에서 이중 디스크 오류의 복구가 가능하다. DH 기법들의 특징은 알고리즘이 단순하고, N을 임의의 소수라고 할 때 N 또는 N+1개의 디스크를 기반으로 쉽게 구현할 수 있다. 기본적으로 제안하는 기법들은 검사정보 저장을 위해 최적의 디스크 공간을 사용하고, 인코딩이나 디코딩 과정에서 단지 XOR 연산만을 필요로 하기 때문에 하드웨어의 수정 없이 기존의 디스크 배열 시스템에 쉽게 응용할 수 있다. 더욱이 치명적 오류를 방지할 수 있는 두 오류 디스크에 대한 복구 시간은 디코딩에서의 XOR 연산수를 최소화함으로써 신속하게 처리할 수 있다. 결과적으로 제안하는 기법들은 디스크 배열 시스템에서의 치명적 오류 확률을 낮출 수 있는 효과적인 방법이다.

  • In the information age, internet was developed from the wired access to the wireless Internet access. When a surge in demand for wireless Internet access, efficiency and performance of 2.4GHz band which leads to saturation of the communication was significantly fall. in this paper, the U-slot microstrip array antenna in the 5 GHz band have been studied to improve the drawback of a narrow bandwidth of the T-slot micro strip antenna. The characteristics of single antenna and array antenna was investigated to obtain the optimum frequency properties. The optimal U-slot microstrip array antenna possibility was confirmed.

  • In this paper, we propose the optimization of subarray configurations for linear array to minimize the side lobe level (SLL) in sum beam pattern based on the genetic algorithm. The operations of genetic algorithm are modified to be applied to subarray configurations. Using the proposed method, we construct subarray structure with 16 irregular subarray elements from 40 linear array elements to minimize the SLL in sum beam pattern in case of applying the adaptive beamforming(ABF) to suppress the jamming power, whose the SLL is 10 dB lower than that of regular subarray configuration.

Design of Interleaved Thinned Planar Arrays Using Cyclic Difference Set (Cyclic Difference Set을 이용한 Interleaved Thinned 평면 배열 설계)

  • In this paper, an analytical technique is proposed for the design of interleaved thinned planar array with well-behaved and predictable sidelobes. The interleaved arrays are composed of thinned planar subarrays based on cyclic difference sets(DSs). Becauce sidelobes of thinned planar subarrays based on DS are predictable by DS parameters, the subarrays exhibit very similar sidelobe levels by utilizing DS and complementary DS with similar autocorrelations each other. The combinatorial method also allows the design of interleaved placements with simultaneously optimum peak sidelobe levels(PSLs) of subarrays using cyclic shift-a property of DSs. The optimized PSLs of the interleaved array are -12.47 dB and -10.34 dB.

Beam Curve Optimization for Minimizing the Phase Errors of Rotman Lens (Rotman 렌즈의 위상 오차 최소화를 위한 빔 곡선 최적화)

  • In this paper, we propose an optimization method for obtaining beam curve which minimize the phase errors of Rotman lens. This method is based on idea that 3 path lengths from a beam port through equal phase points, which consist of the center point of array antenna and two points placed symmetrically or asymmetrically along array antenna, to the corresponding phase front are equal. According to this method, the optimal locations of beam ports can be obtained directly by finding each equal phase point set on array antenna to minimize the phase errors for each beam direction. Simulation results show that the proposed method is the most optimal and effective method for determining the beam curve of Rotman lens with low phase errors.

Design of a wideband cymbal transducer array (광대역 심벌 트랜스듀서 배열 설계)

  • Cymbal transducers are often used as an array rather than single because they have a high quality factor and low energy conversion efficiency. When used as an array, there occurs a big change in the frequency characteristics of the array due to the interaction between constituent transducers. In this study, we designed the structure of a cymbal transducer array to have ultra-wideband characteristics using this property. First, cymbal transducers with specific center frequencies were designed. Then, a 2×2 planar array was constructed with the designed transducers, where the cymbal transducers were arranged to have same or opposite polarization directions. For this structure, we analyzed the effect of the difference in the center frequency of and the spacing between the constituent transducers on the acoustical characteristics of the array. Based on the analysis, we designed the structure of the cymbal transducer array to have the widest possible bandwidth.
