  • Jet Loop Reactor(JLR), in which a two-phase nozzle is installed, is the new design technique for the treatment of high concentration wastewater by accelerating of oxygen contacting between substrate and surrounding bacteria. This numerical study of the two phase jet flow was conducted to find the optimum design of JLR. It was shown that there was a minimum velocity in the nozzle for continuous circulation of wastewater. The optimum location and the size of the draft tube for continuous circulation were examined. It was certain that the smaller the air size is, the more the effect of the mixing increases. The relation between the mixing effect and the turbulence was confirmed.

  • This study makes to flow analysis of computational fluid dynamics(CFD) according to the basic theory of turbulent flow regarding high-pressure injection nozzle. It also makes structural analysis to find out the structural validity of the optimum shape of high-pressure injection nozzle. It divides to two areas such as plunger areas and high-pressure injection nozzle area including plunger.

  • The seawater cooling system of naval ships is installed to remove the toxic substances generated by CBR (Chemical, Biological, and Radiological) warfare and reduce the infrared signature of naval ships from outside the hull. The dispersion range of the nozzle is determined according to the injection pressure of seawater and the nozzle type. Therefore, it is necessary to select the appropriate injection pressure and design the optimal nozzles to increase the seawater dispersion area and maximize the efficiency of the cooling system. In this study, the applying feasibility of 3D printing technology to produce an injection nozzle for the seawater cooling system was examined. To this end, the extruded plastic specimens were fabricated by 3D printing, and the physical properties of the specimens were estimated through tensile testing. After this, the strain and stress of the nozzle as a function of the pressure were simulated by applying the estimated results to the finite element analysis. The finite element analysis results showed that the nozzle remained within the elastic range at the optimal pressure. The nozzle was estimated to be structurally stable, and the possibility of this study was confirmed.

  • Typical solid rocket motors have a fixed propellant grain shape and nozzle throat size resulting in a fixed motor thrust. Pintle nozzle has been suggested as a means of providing variable thrust while maintaining the inherent advantage of solid rocket motors. In this study, the pintle shape effect on nozzle performance is investigated using experimental-aided Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD). The pintle shape is modified by a principle of monotony. CFD analysis is performed using Fluent by applying the turbulent model. This analysis indicates that nozzle thrust and pintle load are influenced by change of nozzle shock pattern and flow separation due to pintle shape and there exists a high-performing pintle shape.

  • Numerical analysis was conducted as a preliminary study for evaluating the dual bell nozzle. For future parametric studies, a dual bell nozzle was designed, and thereafter inlet condition, turbulence model, and the number of optimum grids were determined. Dual bell nozzle was designed based on the KSLV-II first stage nozzle. Inlet condition was determined to frozen flow model of non-reacting eight species by comparing with the design values. SST $k-{\omega}$ model turned out to be suitable as turbulence model. About 150 thousand of the grids were selected after grid sensitivity tests. Based on the results determined in this study, we plan to investigate performance gain of the KSLV-II by adopting a proposed dual bell nozzle.

  • It is the aims of this study to choose the materials and determine the material thickness of laminated Rocket Nozzle Wall operating at high pressure and high temperature. The heat conduction analysis of each layer was performed by Crank Nicolson method changing the thickness and the materials for the imput data of Tungsten, Graphite, Alumina, Aluminum, Molybdenum, Plastic laminate. The results of the study for pressure of 93.5kg/$cm^2$ and temperature of $3000^{circ}C$ in the nozzle dia of 40cm are as follows.

  • Korea Aerospace Research Institute has been designed and manufactured various thurst nozzles of the scramjet engine for optimized configuration. The test campaign for thurst nozzle characteristics was performed at T4 free-piston shock tunnel in University of Queensland, Australia. Total 8 kinds of thrust nozzles and 2 kinds of side walls were manufactured for this campaign. In this paper, the design and specification of thrust nozzles was reported. Based on the static pressure distribution of the engine and pitot pressure distributions at nozzle exit, The positive net thurst was observed with baseline case of the test campaign.

  • A computational analysis of nozzle flow characteristics and plume structure using Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with $k-{\omega}$ SST turbulence model was conducted to examine performance of the supersonic nozzle employed in a small liquid-rocket engine for ground firing test. Computed results and experimental outcome of 2-D converging-diverging nozzle flow were compared for verifying the computational capability as well as the turbulence model validity. Numerical computations of 2-D axisymmetric nozzle flow was carried out with the selected model. As a result, flow separation with backflow appeared around the nozzle exit. This investigation was reported as a background data for the optimal nozzle design of small liquid-propellant rocket engine for ground test.
