  • Present research deals with an optimal design of the C-type frame of a desktop pressing machine to minimize its deformation which plays an important role in accuracy of the machine. Deformation pattern of the frame is analyzed by the finite element method. Design parameters are defined for the frame to derive an optimal design. Displacement and weight sensitivities of the parameters are analyzed using the method of the parametric study. On the basis of the response curves for the parameters, optimal designs of the frame are proposed. Effectiveness of the optimal design is verified by analyses in the viewpoint of the deformation and weight of the frame. Deformation of the optimized frame without increase of the weight is 87.5 % of the original frame.

  • This study was intend to develop the optimal design method of suspension bridge by the reliability analysis based on minimization of life cycle cost(LCC). The reliability analysis was performed considering aleatory uncertainties included in the result of numerical analysis. The optimal design was estimated based on life-cycle cost analysis depending on the result of reliability analysis. As the effect of epistemic uncertainty, the safety index (beta), failure probability (pf) and minimum life cycle cost were random variables. The high-level distributions were generated, from which the critical percentile values were obtained for a conservative bridge design through sensitivity assessment.

  • In this study, the optimal strengthening by micro genetic algorithm(${\mu}$-GA) method is proposed for improvement of load-carrying capacity of RC hollow slab bridges using external prestressing. The Qeen-post type and King-post type are considered for the optimal strengthening. The type for optimal strengthening, deviator, areas of tendons and the number of anchor are calculated by ${\mu}$-GA. The objective function is constituted with dimensionless cost of tendon and steel for optimal strengthening. The constraints are formulated by design specification for bridges and anchors. The validity of this study is presented by analysis of the results after the optimal strengthening of the RC hollow slab bridge.

  • This study investigates the optimum section properties of newly developed steel-concrete composite beam. For that purpose we developed computer program calculating section properties. The suggested new beam section highly contribute to save inter-story height and reduce construction duration and cost compared with conventional steel works such as H-beam and column + RC slab system. But the section shape have different section modulus with upper and lower fiber because of the unsymmetric cross section. Therefore the parametric study on thickness-ratio of top and bottom flange plate is needed. In this paper the change of neutral axis and section modulus for thickness-ratio of up and down flage plate is analysed and discussed.

  • This study presents optimal compensation algorithm of differential column shortening for more than two column groups. The proposed algorithm produces the minimum story groups and their compensation thicknesses which satisfy constraint conditions on performance and construction and enables not only the relative compensation but also the mixed compensation considering absolute shortening. The simulated annealing algorithm is used as the main optimization technique. The applicability of the proposed algorithm was verified by applying it to the 61-storey building where compensation of differential column shortening had already been performed. Using, the proposed algorithm compensation was performed easily and the number of compensation was less than the field method.

  • Real-time monitoring technology is critical for ensuring the safety and reliability of nuclear power plant structures. However, the current seismic monitoring system has limited system identification capabilities such as modal parameter estimation. To obtain global behavior data and dynamic characteristics, multiple sensors must be optimally placed. Although several studies on optimal sensor placement have been conducted, they have primarily focused on civil and mechanical structures. Nuclear power plant structures require robust signals, even at low signal-to-noise ratios, and the robustness of each mode must be assessed separately. This is because the mode contributions of nuclear power plant containment buildings are concentrated in low-order modes. Therefore, this study proposes an optimal sensor placement methodology that can evaluate robustness against noise and the effects of each mode. Indicators, such as auto modal assurance criterion (MAC), cross MAC, and mode shape distribution by node were analyzed, and the suitability of the methodology was verified through numerical analysis.

  • The most optimal route-search algorithm thus far has introduced a method of applying node labels and link labels. Node labels consider two nodes simultaneously in the optimal route-search process, while link labels consider two links simultaneously. This study proposes a turn-label-based optimal route-search technique that considers two turns simultaneously in the process. Turn-label-based optimal route search guarantees the optimal solution of dynamic programming based on Bellman's principle as it considers a two-turn search process. Turn-label-based optimal route search can accommodate the advantages of applying link labels because the concept of approaching the limit of link labels is applied equally. Therefore, it is possible to reflect rational cyclic traffic where nodes allow multiple visits without expanding the network, while links do not allow visits. In particular, it reflects the additional cost structure that appears in two consecutive turns, making it possible to express the structure of the travel-cost function more flexibly. A case study was conducted on the metropolitan urban railway network consisting of transportation card terminal readers, aiming to examine the scalability of the research by introducing parameters that reflect psychological resistance in travel with continuous pedestrian transfers into turn label optimal path search. Simulation results showed that it is possible to avoid conservative transfers even if the travel time and distance increase as the psychological resistance value for continuous turns increases, confirming the need to reflect the cost structure of turn labels. Nevertheless, further research is needed to secure diversity in the travel-cost functions of road and public-transportation networks.
